"Was there a Motown 50 TV special?"

I keep seeing the Motown 25 DVD commercial and it made me think what they did for 50. Seems sad that it came and went with no big deal.

nah...Mike just stole the show. Motown was huge; people cared about the other artists too.

It probably didn't happen because of "Motown The Musical". Whatever attention/funds/etc would have gone into a new TV special appears to have gone into the long-range plans of mounting that show.

I don't think it was well promoted.

I only know of it because a certain somebody didn't show up, so then-60-somethings Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong performed Supremes songs with Kelly Rowland (!) singing lead.

You're mixing up specials dude.

Motown 40 was a documentary that aired on ABC.

That other monstrosity aired in 2004 or 5.I never seen it tho.

I been waiting entire life for this moment.

Let me revel in it.

Bwahahahhahaw.

Lionel and Cedric the entertainer were the hosts.

Cedric said at the start that he (Cedric) represented the "new" and "Lionel" represented the "old".

Lionel objected and said that he (Lionel) was "classic" - not "old".

I think the theme of the show was new performers collaborating with the "classic" performers.

Lionel did "endless love" with Kelly Rowland (or was it Michelle from Destiny's Child?)

"Motown returns to the Apollo"

It had George Michaels with his mid-80's hair helmet (that's how I knew it wasn't from the 90's)

At the end, Stevie did "love's in need of love today" - George Michaels kicked that off.

I didn't see it in 85 but I saw it on a video tape several years ago.

They still can get Stevie, Smokey, Lionel, Diana, Gladys, Debarge. They can make it special if it's done right. I would dig it if they kept it old school. I don't need Usher covering Marvin Gaye or Chris Brown doing a MJ tribute.
