"Young Thug 'Would Never Buy' A Jay Z Album Because of Age"

http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/the-juice/6458435/young-thug-jay-z-album-age

'Jay Z has some of the sickest lyrics ever, but I would never buy his CD, just because of my age and because of his age.'

For Young Thug, rap has an age limit.

"I don't want to rap forever… I don't want to be 50 years old and rapping, man. I'm pretty sure nobody wants to do that," Thug, 22-years old, told GQ magazine.

The rapper continued to focus on Jay Z, 45-years old, specifically: "I'm pretty sure Jay Z don't wanna rap right now."

Thug believes that after a certain age, young people don't listen to a rapper's music: "If you're 30, 40 years old, you're not getting listened to by minors. Like, Jay Z has some of the sickest lyrics ever, but I would never buy his CD, just because of my age and because of his age. By the time I turn that old, I ain't gonna be doing what he's doing."

It seems as if Thug won't be buying a Jay Z album because of the difference in their age, despite his "sickest lyrics ever."

And don't expect for Young Thug to get rid of "Young" from his name. "I don't think I'm gonna drop it, 'cause I want to be forever young." But! If he had to, he'd change it to "Jeff the Rapper," which is what his little niece calls him.

Thug's focus is to be "rich forever." He hopes to be like Bill Gates "with all the money in the world," and a career like Lil' Wayne or Michael Jackson

They laughed, like dude had grays and a cane or something. They were HS kids. I remember being a teen thinking that 25 was old as hell.

Anyway, watch how quick this dude will change his tune as he approaches 30 and suddenly he's suddenly "old" to the kids.

People who don't take hip-hop as a genre seriously have a problem separating it from youth culture. The cutting-edge cool part of hip-hop is always going to be youth oriented, but it's no more of a "kids genre" than rock is.

What does Jay Z's ability or flow have to do with age?

Recording an opinion from any 20 year old is an exercise in futility. 20s opinions change faster than underwear.

Idiot.

Good music is good music. You don't see people not buying Stevie Wonder's albums because he's blind and old.

These kids are stupid. I'm glad I grew up in a generation where I knew that it doesn't matter how old the artist is, whether they are dead or alive, art is art. And good art is worth it no matter what the age.

Half the time, my friends didn't even know how old a rapper was at all. It wasn't until relatively recently that the "hip-hop media" became age-obsessed.

while in HS my friend ran into eric b at the airport
he wanted to take her out

as 16 year olds were were like wait
isnt he old??

some of us debated for him because they were dating 20 year olds at the time
lol

thing is NONE of us considered them young
WE were young
no matter how old we acted there was definitely a distinction

mater o fact craig G would come back and visit from time to time
again the age distinction
we were like cool thanks for coming back but um...
arent you graduated?

so while we didn't specifically ask
it was like the super seniors in HS
you just knew its not the same

he has more money than you'll ever dream about
if he didn't want to rap, he wouldn't rap.
pretty sure Jay does essentially nothing that he doenst want to do at this point.

meaning, you can have separate lanes with people doing what you do and fans that will only pay attention to what you do.

kind of what rock has done.

some people say "i like rock music" and they are able to listen to it all

while most people say "i like indie" or whatever branch of rock exists and have it be a legit answer.

even some of hip-hop's greatest artists believed that they had outgrown rap or were much of an ARTISTE to be limited by hip-hop.

old acts can exist
but they have to be on the level of the old acts that still tour in rock n roll
ie: the legends
the jay z example is a bad one, he's a cultural icon
but if young thug said this about sadat x or those dudes from boot camp click i'd totally agree
let the music be shaped and innovated by the young like it always has

there is a definitive lane for older vets in the game and basically that he is one of the poster kids for that lane. he said he and some others he named are constantly touring overseas and making nice money over there, plus doing smaller venue shows over here pretty regularly as well...and will still drop a cd every now and then.

Young Thug and his generation can have that tatt face look. That ain't on us, lol. Dude's options, based on appearances are:

- Career Crook
- Kitchen Dishwasher
- 30+ living in Mama's house riding in the passenger seat of his girl's whip making her pump the gas that he ain't put nothing on.

Dude better save them stacks.

I am a head that is over 30. Based on that I don't really connect to much music that youthful such as Beiber, Joey Baddass, Young thug, etc. I can see the appreciation for it but a lot of it I have a hard time relating. I connect with RTJ or Jay Z, even James brown since I grew up with them as far as being a listener. I can't knock thug for not seeing the great in the music since he is still very young in understanding life and music. Takes time to become that well rounded individual so it kind of speaks his age which is "young" thug. Some art can take down the walls of age young and old, some doesn't.

now that yall are old and yall are in the line of fire it's personal right? i get it.

one day it won't be "for" me either.

maybe if hova (and some of them other old GOATs) would actually make music for his age bracket instead of chasing the youth dollar there might be some change. but that's not lucrative enough despite the fact that old niggas are the ones w/ money to spend.

Dudes 30 & 40+ still rapping about stupid shit that their kids are doing. Just like a 30+ corner boy won't get any respect, neither will a 40+ rapper with songs about the club or haters. If older rappers continue to make disposable music, then it will be disposed.

Love is one
Things that plague our community, possibly?
Spirituality
Balancing work with play
Growing up (Oddisee's "Different Now" comes to mind)
The value of authenticity

Man, the topics to rap about are endless. Listen to an Open Mike Eagle album to see
what I mean. Dude's song concepts are amazing whether I like his music or not.

looks like from a Hip Hop standpoint... to the point where this dude thinks you shouldn't
even rap past a certain age. That's crazy, but I don't think the corporate structure would
have it any other way for Black folks in mainstream. It's all part of the plan.

..on how hip-hop is one of the only music forms that has no respect for pioneers, elders, or those who are 30 plus still making GREAT music.

This also solidifies the reason why veteran rock bands or bands of other music genres have standing power 30 plus years in the game and still sell out shows at 60 plus years of age.

Not like I expect this guy to be logically consistent, because allegedly he stays drugged out of his mind, but hasn't he done music with Birdman already? Can't say I even care enough to use Google. If he did, is Birdman exempt from this magical age limit requirement that Young Thug just thought up? or is what Birdman "does" not considered rap?

Will this young chap also not buy music from Scarface or Bun B or Too Short?

the thought of rapping at 30 was foreign to me and i remember laughing my ass off when Nas made fun of Jay for being old in Ether...i was probably 20 then. when you're that young you're supposed to think those dudes are old as shit...hell Young Thug himself probably feels like he's getting old now that he's past 21. we're all way too caught up with being young. when i turned 25 i thought "oh shit! i'm getting old!"...when i turned 30 i thought "oh shit! i'm getting old!" when i turn 40 i'll think "oh shit! i was so damn young 5 years ago!"...we all stay on that BS.

I never thought that rapping at 30 and older was nonsense. I had a homeboy who said he used to want to hang with the older cats back in his teen years. He never thought 30 was old during his youth either. Some of us were a little more mature in our thinking during our younger years.

... Lebron is retired in Miami and that doesn't mean none of these young artists are Lebron at all. Why should someone that is great at their craft retire early because of age? If you're still relevant to the culture at 30 or 40 then keep going. Too Short puts out albums and does shows year round. When Black Thought turns however old he is why should we force him into a retirement home?

last year marked the 30th anniversary of tina turner's private dancer album and that album as huge and she was getting much love at 44/45 and nobody was tripping on her age. or Marvin hitting with sexual healing at 42/43

or gladys knight and the pips hitting with us as kids back in the day or smokey robinson hitting or stevie wonder,etc..

nowadays you got these turkeys calling B2k Old School and Ja RUle throwback music, etc..

coming along back in the day we loved the old school and embraced the past and didn't treat it as if it was from the stone age.

these turkeys out today would make Mario, chingy and Ashanti as their grannys music.

Young thug said what i hear alot sad to say today.

sad thing is alot of these turkeys don't even look up artists or know the reality and think they are gonna be 25 forever.

and FYI Young Thug is a Musical joke.but that never stopped birdman
