I don't think they are trying to insulate themselves as much as they are showing that Black atheists exist; I believe they showed the only 3 Black atheist represented in tv and film lol

Like there was this jump from we're black atheists, but what are white atheists doing for social justice or something like that right? I guess I didn't get whatever the implied reason why there is a difference.

...but this highlighted a lack of representation that I never thought about.
Here is a pretty extensive list of atheists and agnostics in film/tv and there isn't one Black character http://theguttermonkey.hubpages.com/hub/AtheistCharacters I am familiar with a lot of these characters and I don't remember them met with the type of disdain that the Black characters are met with. It's very telling IMO.

Religious brain washing/indoctrination from the moment you are born, good to see black atheists getting a shout out.
I always had issues with religion even as a child, seeing folks catch the holy ghost in church, looked more like demon possession to me. In my teen years when I learned about how religion was used to control the mind of slaves that was the moment everything changed for me. Then years later I read "Age of Reason" by Thomas Paine, after that I was done with religiosity. Anything that tells you not to ask questions and simply obey is suspect.
Being a brotha that doesn't go to church and trying to date black women can be difficult as hell, not impossible but challenging at times for sure. When you meet a sistas parents for the first time, at some point they ask "so what church do you attend?" You're pretty much persona non grata after that conversation, lol
