Paul Scheer intimated on some podcast recently that there was something controversial about this show; the premise seems a bit tamer than Blackish.

Instead of a step forward. He's kinda being unreasonable and although it wouldve been cool for it to be referencing Gravediggaz it doesn't further fhe story. Ionno I get he wants it to be true to his story but why choose ABC to do the show and not FX or HBO.

he coulda run it a bunch of different ways.

It coulda been an hour long more dramatic comedy (not sure if America is ready) but a lot of people watch shit just cause HBO does it.


Or Maybe a sketch comedy show hosted by Eddie with a bunch of Asian Comics thatd be cool too.

I remember being like 10 years old out at the waterslides in Manteca, CA and these 2 older white boys were pointing and smiling at me yelling "Look! It's a FOB! HAHAHAHA"

I flipped em off and yelled, "Fuck you, bitch!" They STFU and fixed their faces real quick.

Many fights and beefs betweens groups/gangs of American-borns and foreign-borns growing up in the 80's and early 90's stemmed from usage/misuse of this word.

Like i was never called a fob by a non-asian person.

In my circles it was used more by Asians to describe other Asians.

It was really used as a slur with Filipinos. American borns against Filipino born ones.. in the 80's/90's when there were more gangs.

I guess whites that were in areas where there were a good amount of them around, caught on.. Northern California.

Before my schedule got crazy, I was kinda up on Cristela. It was kinda hard to not compare it to the George Lopez show. It's annoying to hear her change her voice to say something super "Mexican" or Latino/a, but it gets some laughs here and there.

In the context of modern sitcoms. I don't know that I've regularly watched sitcoms since Married with Children or TGIF

I had a few laughs but wasn't cracking up. I guess thinking back a lot of those shows weren't side splittingly funny, but had a nice tight plot for every episode that was part of an arc for the show in general.


Would love to see them develop and distinguish Eddie's brothers characters more as the show goes on.

The stuff that was funny to me wasn't so much Eddie and his family but their "observations" of the world around them.

White kid waiting for dad, straight c's rewarded, that Mitch commercial at the end of the pilot had me Rollin' "when I'm out in the sun and my neck is red"
The part about "sticker drugs" - I remember that talk at my school.


They shoulda waited to break out those I love yous.
Like Eddie explained in the narration-- those are hard to come by in Asian families.
Would've made its own great episode

It's a call back to earlier in the episode when Eddie said he was just a squirrel trying to get a nut.

But *I* thought he was referring to his dad trying to say something impressive to his mom so he could get it in later. My wife thinks I was just being my usual "gutter mind" self.

So far, the time period isn't nearly as much of a framing device in terms of pop culture as the Goldbergs and they've stuck to pretty much standard 94-95 (by Little Eddie's musical touchstones), but they slipped a bit with that Reebok Pump joke. Just so long as they don't get as absolutely haphazard as The Goldbergs does (one week, seeing ET in the theater; the next week, reminiscing on when the daughter USED to be into NKOTB...), I still around.

That album didn't come out until '97. I noticed that and thought they were playing loose with the timeline.

hopefully FOB won't have the same problems, considering i'm even more familiar w/FOB's time period (mid 90s) than i am w/The Goldbergs's (mid to late 80s).

I remember reading somewhere that the show is deliberately set "In The 80s"(TM) which is pretty much the entire 80s happening all at the same time.


But yeah, I hate that shit.
