"Do you always give 2 weeks notice when resigning???"
I'm starting a new gig on 2/9. Got the offer a while back but didn't get the official clearance of my background check until today. I really want a week to decompress but don't know how that will be looked upon at my current gig.

Lol..no it's an official gig. I work in Software Sales and just got an offer from another company that I'm excited about. I got the offer a while back but their vetting process is extensive. I wasn't too worried about anything adverse showing on my background check but I was reluctant about putting in a notice until I got the green light. Now my start date is 2/9 and I want a little time to myself before jumping right into a new gig

...they're funnystyle around here...my homeboy left a month ago, turned in his notice and they acted like it was the end of the world...
i left a job once and couldn't do the two week notice thing (the new gig wanted me to start the next week)...i felt bad, but they were very cool about it all

OR, if you are in an industry like mine, give them your two weeks and tell them you are going to work for a competitor. Around here, that might as well be saying you'd like an escort to your car pronto.

they already liked you enough to hire you and spent money on the background check what they not going give you the job if you say you have to wait another week? just tell the truth: you didn't put in your 2 weeks until the background check came back.

I pushed it out a week already, my initial start date was supposed to be today. I don't really want to burn any bridges but I highly doubt I would ever come back here for employment.
9. "no, but try to. and always give as much notice as possible." In response to Reply # 0
I've been in your position luckily my new employer didn't mind, and even respected, my request to give my current employer 2 weeks notice but if they hadn't my old job would have gotten 1 week and liked it
*** when I come around, they frown then wanna dap me down but when I leave?

It's a courtesy. I'd try to get the other spot to push the date out by a week. If they are unable, resign "Effective Immediately" or with a one week notice. Either way, you come first. And if YOU need a week to decompress from one before starting another, then YOU need to do YOU gotta do.
I've done all three. It's not hurt me one bit in my professional life.

but I have given 2 week notices when I applied for a higher positions and moved on. Those 2 weeks tho would end up being a month till I could transition the new person into my old spot.
