As someone who has gone through giving birth...There are signs. If she's having contractions today...then maybe he should consider it.

If there is no sign of the kid by tomorrow morning, then he needs to play. And after they win, do one interview, get your trophy and hop on the next plane home to the family.

If she's having a C-section, then get it done the day AFTER THE PHUCKIN SUPER BOWL!!!!! YOUR FUTURE HUBBY IS A FOOTBALL PLAYER. RALLY, GODDAMMIT!!!!!!

but this story is lame

shouldn't be a problem to be able to do both, IMO.

it's his livelihood, and the peak of his career, on a national stage in the thing he's worked his entiree life to become one of the best in the world at.

It's also the thing that's likely gonna give his child s better shot in life than most.

Now if Sherman decides being there for his child's birth trumps all that, I can absolutely respect that, but trying to reduce the narrative to "just a game", like he's off playing in the park or "you can't take a day off from work, for the birth of your own child?" is siilly

which is probably how he'd feel if he was there.
you still can't get around the fact that the dad doesn't do anything

his wife was having a potentially life-threatening surgery, either, but I'm sure that he would still prefer to be there with his wife/SOregardless...

And as I said, if something went awry during her labor and it resulted in her death, I'm sure it would be of no consolation to Richard Sherman whatsoever that he wouldn't have been of no help anyway

again i wouldn't judge dude at all if he missed the super bowl for this but
there's really not much he can do either way.
as someone who has given birth (albeit through c-section)
i can honestly say i'd prefer he not miss the super bowl for that
my father never saw any 4 of us get born
and he says has no regrets lol he's squeamish so even when he was allowed in
when my younger brother & sister was born he declined
for me and my older sisters birth he wasn't allowed.

on the other hand though
if the birth is on his mind it might effect his performance so
he should just do what's best for him.

certain things in their child's life i.e.birth/first steps/graduation/sports because they were working

I'll ask you the same thing I asked Jo Corn Mo: what If Sherman's wife had cancer and she needed surgery but he had to play in the SB, should he go play his important game because he can't assist her in any way with her surgery other than lending support?

That's a different scenario, of course he should be there if his wife ( this is he gf though) has cancer or if it's a high risk pregnancy.

But as far as I've heard this is a routine pregnancy. Women have babies all the time with out the Dad present.

He has a particular skill set that is needed especially by his employer on this special day. He should go the work.

The baby will not even know who he is. As long as he's there for the rest of his child's life he'll be a good Dad

dude

life is at risk because of a surgery she's having that could potentially be life-threatening, but if his wife/SO/girlfriend is *giving* life then it's not really that important if he's there with her for the birth...I mean since it's not like he's actually helping with the delivery and the baby won't have any memory of it anyway...

Why do parents regret missing their child's 1st steps or a 1st day of school or finally being potty trained or whatever special occassion when their child won't know if the mother/father is there anyway?

It's because those memories in life are still very important to many parents and *some*men in particular and no matter how much importance we put on the Super Bowl (seems like we make it larger than life every year), IT IS STILL JUST A GAME...

If he decides to play, it's his prerogative but if he does decide to go be by his girlfriend's side for the pregnancy, he shouldn't ridiculed for it.

His job is not a regular job, he has several ppl behind him who have been trained to do that same job in case Sherman is out because of injuries or family matters or suspension

I am generally not interested in sports,
yet I go to superbowl parties every year.

you are sorta underestimating how cool it is
to play in the superbowl.

the baby will be there after the game, hopefully.

I hope his child is born after the Super Bowl so he can witness the birth of his child, but if not, then he should play at the top of his game, beat the Fakecheats, and witness another victory with his first born. A win win combo!!!

Him being there ain't gonna bring the baby out any faster or healthier and he's out earning money to support that baby when she or he does get here.

I'd imagine most women would be like if you dont take your ass to that game and win us a ring...
