Pretty much he's pissed that Marshawn Lynch doesn't want to talk to the media. Speaks on Johnny Manziel and Josh Gordon too. https://soundcloud.com/the-stephen-a-smith-show/stephen-a-says-marshawn-lynchs-antics-with-the-media-are-disgraceful-and-embarrassing

but like i said in oksports dealing with the media is part of being an athlete
and the method mayshawn lynch is using to show his "disapproval" or whatever it is
is counter productive and feeds right into the media's hand

Booking Skittles sponsorship off of this shit. He's eating. Everyone wins. Seems like he just don't want his actual answers to be taken out of context by the media, which isn't happening.

By the way, I never took you for the company man type. Didn't you hate McNabb cause he just fell in line and did whatever was asked of him by his organization and the league?

same 'tensity ya'll

FTR

BeastMode saying I'm here so I won't get fined during media day was fulfilling his obligation

WTF does that have to do with Josh Gordon or Johnny Maziel?

Marshaw did what was required of him on media day according to NFL rules.

how does that compare to breaking laws?

he said the same thing on FT

so I'm guessing he actually had time to formulate a more in depth narrative for his radio show

and I still don't get how they compare

Marshawn Lynch haters need to return to wherever they came from.

Stephen A is mad because Marshawn won't give them anything to talk about. The media would run whatever Lynch said into the ground anyway so why not say nothing at all?

most athlete's can't win the media game.
the best you can do is make it a draw.

if you win, credit the team.
if you lose, blame yourself.

if you say those things, and those things only,
you're a class act.

deviate from the script, you get burned.

now it doesn't take a genius to see
the media is asking questions because they WANT
somebody to go off script and then they can talk about that
for week instead of actually... well, analyzing sports.

so finally, lynch goes and states the obvious.
I am sick of these bullshit conferences,
saying the same thing over and over again,
with you ppl foaming at the mouth for a
soundbite of me going off script.

so here's a soundbite for you: I ain't talking.
this entire media game is a sham, and everyone with a brain knows it.

of course steven a don't like it.

he thinks he's a respectable sports journalist.
he doesn't think espn is watered down, sensationalist bullshit.

of course he doesn't get it.

His answers were as bs as "actual" answers athletes end up giving anyway. "At the end of the day.." "I mean, we fought hard.." "We're competitors.." all that shit is just as lame as what he said. Only thing is it gives the false appearance of giving a fuck, that these insecure reports need, I guess.

this whole "it comes w/ the job" is bullsh*t really cause its not like he'd be in ANY danger of losing his job because of it (unless he became a trash player). it has almost no effect on the people who make sure he stays employed, so how important should it really be to him?

i don't even think these interviews are really meant to be consumed literally. it's more about writers wading thru a lot of shit to find a few tasty nuggets to create their narratives around
if that mean athletes have to give 15 min. of their time this week then so be it

The questions suck: "What are you doing to get ready for the game" etc. and the answers stink cause the questions stink. I've not a once given a fuck about a press conference response unless the athlete chooses to be honest and give an actual answer. Which rarely happens (Lebron telling people they poor, and he rich after the Mavs loss was excellent...Kobe being a dick). But that shit is rare. To me, Lynch's responses = "At the end of the day, I compete" bs.

in the media relations part of the job.
As it is now, how does it benefit Marshawn to do more than the bare minimum? Maybe it would affect his own endorsements, but probably not.
I doubt it affects his job security.

If the NFL wants players to promote the brand in an enthusiastic manner, they should give bonuses or something to those who do so.

Bill Simmons became the biggest sportswriter in the country w/ 0 access. half of the sh*t we read and care about involve 0 quotes from the topic of the article. we don't need Marshawn or Pop answering 20 questions with Andy Reid answers in order to get interesting NFL coverage.

He is smarter than that ... Players are not equal to the commissioner ... In ANY way. Players use interviews to promote the game, elevate their profile and represent themselves and the team.

But since Goodell is brought up ... Imagine him in a corporate sponsored setting answering questions like Lynch does ... How long would he last?

Dumb comment from a smart guy. We all have bad days. Lol

based on your replies in OKS, so you're going all in, but questioning that proposition?

are you Godell's kid? why should the commissioner, who is just as notable an NFL figure (probably more) than any particular player, not face the media every week like the players?

is that so preposterous?

Been a beast mode fan since high school. He was the 2nd rated RB coming out, behind only Adrian Peterson. Followed him at WV too ... But let you tell it. As for the rest of your theory ...

Goodell is the Commissioner, CEO of the league. he reports only to the owners of each team. He is responsible to them as well as the fans. Best believe he meets regularly and he sure as hell knew it was a part of the job, just like Lynch does. You think he could be as dismissive to their request as Lynch has been? Could he answer to Jerry Jones and Kraft with 1 word repeated answers and not face blow-back?

Players meet with the media, it is in the every contract they sign. The media helps drive, or crash, revenue for the league. You want the money, fame, commercials but expecting you to face media is too much? Really? That's where the line is drawn?

Sherman's comment is stupid in that the Commissioner is a party of 1 with responsible for a billion dollar product and 1000s of employees .... But he should have to answer questions weekly like players? They on the same level? Nah playa, it's levels to this game ... Players vs. Commish is like candles vs. the Sun, that ish don't equal out.

My last post on the subject ... All good, just don't act as though an opposing opinion has no merit and people are just hating on Lynch. Some just expect more from him ...

He IS being dismissive when he Ignores or drags out issues
And gets blow back from say, domestic violence groups till he responds

The media also can drive or crash players' careers based on how they decide to paint u
& most of all, the media's goal is to drive revenue for the media

this is why I can watch 10 min of fox news,
10 min of CNN,
10 min of ESPN,

and know what dumb ideas ppl will be making small talk with me about
for the next 3.5 days.

the 24 hour news cycle is a travesty,
and I don't know how you can be in favor of it.

Basically, he's conforming and capitulating for the money and wants everyone else to

That and he thinks Lynch owes his career to the media and the owners, when the owners and media owe theirs to players like him.

Dude's a workhorse, prolly gonna be walking badly in 10 years (hopefully not) and these cats wanna act like he's not doing enough for the establishment

any other justification they give for their outrage is a joke

and watching them get trolled, and get madder as the season goes on, is way more entertaining than the boilerplate agent/media-coached responses from 75% of the league

These reporter types really think they are that hit.

I'd rather hear directly from the player, than hear their opinion on what they think the player meant.
