how about had guns pulled on you by cops?
how many people you know that have been shot by a cop?
I have never had a gun pulled on me but I did throw a party where a fight broke out and cops showed up and one of them pulled the shotgun on a friend. I thought it was going down when he pumped the gun.
Anyway.. just wondering because with all the police talk I think most of us know good and gotdamn well how to act when a cop approaches us.
Also wondering if the news has us misremembering all the warnings my elders gave me when approached by cops. I'm definitely a "yes, sir.. no sir" nigga when talking to a cop. If I know they are right I may talk a little shit but if he mentions "downtown or booking" I stfu...

to get my brother. it was a whole swat team in black armour. a few went down to the basement to go get him, while the others screwed the door back on the hinges. they were in and out in maybe 10 minutes.

About 3 times. In all three cases it was mistaken identity...supposedly. The most recent one involved me being pulled over while driving to a friends house. I thought I may have inadvertently ran a stop sign until the officer told me to shut my car off. Then he instructed me to open the car using the outside handle. After I exited the vehicle he yelled for me to get on my knees and put my hands behind my head. He then cuffed me while his partner slowly crept up with his gun drawn on me. It wasn't until after I was cuffed that the officer told me why I was being detained; they said I was driving a stolen car. Not sure how they came to that assessment.

I never act belligerent when accosted or detained by cops because I want to be on my merry way as soon as possible. With that being said, I do not begrudge anyone who does not comply with cops when being harassed. I'm just an extremely non-confrontational dude. I know the sooner they find out I'm not who they're looking for, the sooner I get to go home, without racking up legitimate charges (resisting arrest, etc.)

me, my brother & our friend who was driving his moms car with tinted windows.
I guess he was speeding & with the tints, they decided they needed to surrounded us with the paddy wagon and like seven cars. All these cops with their guns drawn on us, it was surreal because we obviously didn't do anything for them justify that.

they knocked on out front door while we were playing video games, fucking intellivision, that's how old i am. he opened the door, and they pistol whipped him immediately and beat him to the ground, he wasn't resisting at all. he was a pretty large, muscular man, but he wasn't fighting back AT ALL.
this was because a friend of his got popped for blow possession, and he claimed my dad was a big dealer. in court they lied and said he tried to fight them, etc. they found nothing in our house.

never been shot at by cops, other than being in crowds that got teargassed/rubber bulletted
closest i came to being explicit victim of police violence was at my old spot on 148 i got ran over by a particularly rotund dt chasing a suspect (who i think i held the door open for) into my building, like literally run over on foot. dude was easily 350 lbs, maybe more, just ran through me like a bowling ball. i crashed to the ground, cop didnt flinch
dts brought their suspect out only to discover they caught and detained the wrong mexican

she had just asked me to go for my wallet. I was walking home around 10pm when I was 17. I was 3 houses from my house and she pulls me over. Acting all crazy saying I am violating curfew. I told her I fell asleep at my girlfriends house. Then she starts saying I smell like alcohol and weed. I laughed at her. She then starts telling me I was lying that I didnt live in that house. I said go knock on the door. She wouldnt. She just said she had been working the city for 5 years and didnt know me. I told her well I have been living her for 9 years and I didnt know her. She tells me to take out my wallet and show her something with my name on it. I said I had my old school ID and I reach for my wallet and she pulls her gun on me and tells me to freeze. WHAT ARE YOU REACHING FOR!? The wallet you told me to take out. So she takes it out and looks through it then says stay safe and lets me go.

and then the escalation, in this case yelling
made me freeze, and fear for my safety (even though, as you pointed out, I probably wasn't in danger of being shot, but I'm sure if I walked through that metal detector with my hands in my pockets there would have been a pile on)
now imagine that situation with a real cop
makes me wonder how they get away with claiming they fear for their lives
when we're the ones that are scared shitless
should be some psychological evidence that yelling/screaming and presenting lethal force = disaster

prolly not too too many people with that experience here.
i have been detained briefly but never arrested. with local cops they were just waiting for details or trying to intimidate me. never had a gun drawn on me. i have been searched a few times.
with foreign cops i just wait for them to ask for a bribe or, failing that, just wait it out for a bit. usually they don't want any part of actually arresting a foreigner in my experience, though i am sure that's not true everywhere.

...or the drawn gun held to the side, pointed at the ground. Neither felt particularly threatening, honestly. The implied message was more bothersome ("stfu, be calm & cooperate... or, well... you know"). To be fair, they were always looking for someone when they rolled up on me like that. Nearly every time, they even showed me the wanted paper they had, on some "See! We're just looking for this dude that kinda looks like you. My bad."

Coming back from the movies...16 years old. Went to open my door but forgot my keys. Rang the bell and cops walked up to me with hand on gun in the holster....Grilling me....I was shook. Mom was shook....They said I fit the description of a burglar...

I realize that most of my run ins with the police happened when I was a young adult (18-21). Since then, no problems with them other than a once in a blue moon traffic stop. However, having a gun pulled on you for some bullshit can be nerve racking. I feel for parents who have young Black boys, young teenage and young adult sons, especially during these times.

I've had a lot of nasty run ins with cops and in general don't like them at all but I have never felt like my life was in danger from a cop until about a month ago when one stopped me for nothing on my early (and daily) morning walk to the train station. I just felt like they could kill me and make up there own story and get away with it. This was becuz of all the murders they commit and the recent attention on them

i was 16 and it was 2 car loads of us riding around looking for something to get into. my guy says he knows a girl that's home alone and she got friends in the neighborhood so that's where we go.once we get there i realize i kinda know the girl cuz i know the girl next door who is one of her friends.
we sit in the parking lot of a town-home community waiting while he goes up to the door to talk to her. the neighborhood had a courtyard layout to it so you parked and walked down a long sidewalk that had townhouses along side it.
he comes back to the car and gives us some lame explanation why he couldnt convince the girl to let us hang out. so we said he was scared and then i said i would go talk to her.
i'm standing there at the door talking to her and everything's going fine when all of a sudden i here a BOOM!!!! followed by laughter. i figured it was my guys clowning, doin dumb shit. the boom was loud as hell. so loud that the girl says that we gonna get her in trouble cuz one of her neighbors gonna tell her mother. it's dark and late at night so she says goodnight.
i'm walking down the sidewalk to my car pissed cuz these clowns messed up a good thing.
all of a sudden this big white dude jumped outta nowhere and said HEY!!! he scared the shit outta me.
for reasons i can't recall right now, i had this miniature louisville slugger baseball bat on me. i'm not sure if i got it from an amusement park or a baseball game or what. but that, along with a bb gun that looked like a glock were my weapons of choice. damn, that sounds even more stupid as i type it.
anyway, it's dark and i'm standing there scared as hell cuz a big white dude just jumped out on me. so i pull out the bat with one hand and it's over my head ready to be swung.
that's when he pulled out the gun.
and pointed it right at my head.
so i go NAH...NAH....DON'T DO IT...
cuz i think i'm dead. this white man that i'd never seen before was about to kill me and i wasn't ready to die.
i was too scared to move.
that's when he said POLICE...and he said some other stuff but i didn't hear a word of it. all i heard was POLICE...
and i was relieved cuz i wasn't gonna die.
in my head, a random white guy woulda killed me. but a cop might not. so i got a good chance of living.
turns out that while i was up at the girl's door talking, one of my clown ass friends decided to go up to a random door and kick it.
it was the cop's door.
so he came outside in jeans and a t-shirt with his gun to find out what was going on.
he didn't shoot me. called for backup and he cuffed me and my friends and we got roughed up as they questioned us...
but we didn't get locked up that night.
as we're in the car driving away, they wanna joke me tawmbout how my voice sounded when i said NAH...NAH....DON'T DO IT...
i was like fuck you, you let a big white man jump outta nowhere and point a gun at your face and see how you react...
