DISCLAIMER: Let me just start off by saying, I am in NO WAY trying to tell people what they can and cannot wear. What you wear is entirely your own choice. I am just sharing my personal story on why I chose to no longer wear yoga pants or leggings in public.

For the past several months, I have been having a conviction weighing heavy on my heart. I tried ignoring it for as long as I could until one day a conversation came up amongst myself and a few others (both men and women). The conversation was about leggings and how when women wear them it creates a stronger attraction for a man to look at a woman’s body and may cause them to think lustful thoughts. God really changed my heart in the midst of that conversation and instead of ignoring my convictions, I figured it was time I start listening to them and take action.

I went home later that day and shared the convictions I was having with my husband. Was it possible my wearing leggings could cause a man, other than my husband, to think lustfully about my body? I asked my husband his thoughts on the matter when he got home. I appreciated his honesty when he told me, “yeah, when I walk into a place and there are women wearing yoga pants everywhere, it’s hard to not look. I try not to, but it’s not easy.”

I instantly felt conviction come over me even stronger. Not that I wasn’t feeling it earlier, or else I wouldn’t have thought twice about the conversation, but after talking to Dale, it hit me a lot harder. If it is difficult for my husband who loves, honors, and respects me to keep his eyes focused ahead, then how much more difficult could it be for a man that may not have the same self-control? Sure, if a man wants to look, they are going to look, but why entice them? Is it possible that the thin, form-fitting yoga pants or leggings could make a married (or single) man look at a woman in a way he should only look at his wife?

And at that moment, I made a personal vow to myself and to my husband. I will no longer wear thin, form-fitting yoga pants or leggings in public. The only time I feel (for myself) it is acceptable to wear them, is if I am in the comfort of my own home or if I am wearing a shirt long enough to cover my rear end. I also want to set the best example of how to dress for my daughter. I want her to know, her value is not in the way her body looks or how she dresses, but in the character and personality God has given her. I have been following the vow I made to myself for the past couple of weeks now and though it may be difficult to find an outfit at times, my conscience is clear and I feel I am honoring God and my husband in the way I dress.

My wife is the same way. She won't wear leggings or yoga pants with her ass out in public.

and it isn't for religious purposes, she just doesn't like wearing tight stuff in public.

It's an obsession.

Imagine 80% of men wearing those under armor tight shirts EVERYDAY for the last 3 years?

Basically, they’re just really common and the demographics shift according to where I’m at.

Blacks and Latina's in more leopard and crazy printed leggings but these white women LOVE some yoga pants.

And Blacks and Latinas rock 'em far more.

This is very basic shit that anyone who has sat in a men’s or women’s group at church (or even attended church) has heard discussed in one form or another at least twenty-million times.

-For men, it’s about making that so-called covenant with their eyes so as not to gaze lecherously at his sisters.

-For women, it’s about being vigilant toward the image they portray and deciding not to dress in a way that will lead their brothers into lustful temptation,
It’s a news story because it will strike a chord in conservatives and eye rolls from liberals will get views/hits/etc and people will discuss it fervently, leading to more views/hits/etc, more passionate discussion, more views, and eventually someone gets paid because of it.

Truth be told, cutting religion out of the discussion still yields worthwhile discussion. I think leggings are tacky and a bit trashy personally as part of an actual wardrobe, but her husband speaketh the truth. It’s still sexy as hell.

As a husband/father/brother/son/friend, I don’t need religion to tell me “hey, you really shouldn’t be looking at these women like pieces of meat when wearing those”. Far be it from me to suggest women should or shouldn’t wear them, but I also think it’s laughable to expect men to view women in leggings the way they would view them in a moo-moo. Likewise, if she’s making her personal choice based on how she believes in her religion, far be it from anyone else to say she’s wrong for that choice. It’s really not as simple as RABBLERABBLERABBLE!!!!! PATRIARCHY! RABBLERABBLERABBLE!!!! RELIGION IS EVIL!!! RABBLERABBLERABBLE!!!

So, it's a story because people will talk about it, it will put eyes on their product, and someone will ultimately get paid.

but yes, they are also tacky as shit and while I admire what I see...

ain't no way in hell I would want my wife showing the world her goods.

even if I wanted her to wear them, she wouldn't have her ass out because she doesn't like to dress like that.

I'm just learning about this...not that some people thing that women should be submissive, but that it's viewed as a Christian value. I can't wrap my head around this. One of my boys is newly religious, and he's on this shit. Today I saw a FB post asking if a woman should submit to her man before marriage.

I think you know the answer too.

There can't be 2 people running a company. Someone has to take the lead. This doesn't mean she is less than or you are less than. However, I think successful marriages always have a head of household.

I also think this is the reason women are marrying themselves.

a lot of women are making more money... and making sure they marry soft ass dudes who will let them use that financial statement as some sort of power trip.

I also think it's why a lot of women aren't married. They want a good man who will be a simp or no man at all.


I wont say it's more common but a lot of women are raised to believe that "submit" means more than it does...

one other thing, being that my mom raised us as a single mother I see why some women think they need to be the head. They watched guys dip and don't want to be in the same position.. and that fear leads them to believe they have to wear the pants

I know more than a couple of men who need what I call mother-wives.

And I think, if she is fine with being the leader and he's willing to
accept her leadership, that arrangement is the right one.

I just didn't realize people still rocked with submission as a value.

I'm just giving you the actual scripture that people who think this way use to back up their ideas.

Like something that Christians actually discuss and aspire to in modern times.

People have been using religious dogma to oppress and suppress for a very, very long time.

As rampant as sexism and misogyny are, how could this scripture not be touted incessantly?
My response is always to finish the scripture for them and remind them
that Jesus loved the church so much, he died for it. I ask them if they are
loving their wives, or are prepared to love their future wives, more than themselves.

We never get past this part to even begin discussing it deeper, lol. *shrug*

In my household, I consult my wife on most things (which is the respect you speak of), but when it comes down to it, especially the big shit, it mostly comes down to my call.

This is her expectation as well.

It isn't to say that she can't do it, or couldn't do it if I wasn't around, but as the man I'm the head. I'm the leader.

If you love your wife and treat her as your equal she will submit because she loves you just as much and knows you have her best interest at heart.

because a lot of guys read and think that women are supposed to just do what they say and that's not what the Bible says.

Basically, a man is supposed to be submissive to God before any woman follows suit. A man should be holding the house as a provider to his wife and children. He also should be living a life that's spiritually fruitful meaning that he brings out the better traits of his family instead of provoking the worst.

But a lot of guys just see the word 'submit' and act as if their wife is supposed to sit and stay like a dog. smh

All the Bible is really asking a woman to do is to let her man be the man as long as he's doing what he supposed to do.


As far as the OP goes....it seems more that the blogger got rid of yoga pants out of respect for her husband and her marriage. I can respect that.
