Sat Jan-24-15 09:01 AM by Binlahab

im going to generalize like shit in this post, so #minuswell suck that up from the gate

GATDAMNIT BLACK PEOPLE GET IT TOGETHER.

any prospect or tenant or whatever i come across..we got to vet...obviously right?

why is OUR credit INVARIABLY fucked?!

is this ALL Black people...of course not. im Black & mine is GREAT (& ill kill to keep it that way, hence the need for side hustles)

but man...the VAST majority of negrodians are terrible!

i mean TERRIBLE!!!

im talking 400-500 range. i came across a person in the 300s. i didnt know the shit WENT that low.

when your credit is jacked...people dont wanna work with you & if they do they want an arm and a leg...ie first month, last month, deposit and your first born children.

if you had that kinda bread chances are your credit wouldnt be fucked in the first place SOOOO

then to add insult to injury, the credits bad...they broke and want ME to hook em up!

"maybe we can work something out...can i prorate that deposit over the whole lease"

NO BITCH.

you can give me the money! and ALLL the money or take your broke no credit having ragamuffin ass the fuck on.

wasting my gatdamn time trick you knew your shit was atrocious! come to the table w/ that big boy bread or stay in a childs place

...and how systematic racism and oppression has somehow physically prevented us from doing better.

from seeking to do better.

from recognizing the void and educating our children so they can do better

*insert a JoeCornMoe sarcastic response in an attempt to shine a light on how insensitive your post is to minorities everywhere

cause you know, sarcasm works so well
and personal accountability can never come into play

A year or so ago I had been going through the motions of living check to check and trying to paymy bills but not having any extra, and having small financial setbacks affect me in a big way.

Got tired of late fees, collectors, and being broke. I just said fuck it and stopped paying everything but my major expenses...mortgage, car note, etc

Letters came...straight to the trash

Calls came...ignored every number I didn't recognize

Settlement letters came...I paid off one or two if the balance and terms were reasonable.

But the most important thing is that I felt like I unplugged from the matrix and the sky didn't cave in. Still have my house, and my cars, and money in my pocket.

Now, I understand that my credit is probably trash and a small part of me wants to fix it.

So.....where do I start? Any advice for this black scourge of society?

i make decent money too, but a few bad decisions had me paying interest just to stay afloat and never being able to pay down on the principal.

thats the only reason i didnt fell bad about saying fuck it.

well, 2 reasons, one was that i had been paying for so long that they had got their money and then some.

two was that some of the harassment goes way too far, like, i get it...i owe, but calling me 6 times a day aint gonna make the money appear out of thin air

i dont even move when my house phone rings. those that know me, hit my cell...except my mom, who doesnt understand that the housephone isnt the be all and end all to communication..lol

i actually just jumped on creditkarma and its not quite as bad as i thought.

i mean, its still bad...low 600s

but all i have thats open is mortgage, car, student loans and an amex card that is utilized at 8%....everything is current

i have two accounts in collections, and they will probably never see a dime unless they come correct and offer a settlement i like

i have a shitload (20+) of old closed accounts though, most were paid off, a few were charged off, but none are old enough to roll off my report unfortunately

forgot living by the 'it's nobody else's business' code

those who have information...share

my helpful tips:

a missed payment is rediculously negative to credit (answer: auto bill pay and a healthy cushion in whatever account you use for it)

if you don't have time to do it yourself, sign up for a credit repair site like lexington law for 6 months. should get old items knocked off.

taxes
home ownership
getting raises
insurance
passing down assets/wealth to family members

it's not magic. there are a ton of topics that just don't really come up within some black families and associates.

We need to teach our people about financial literacy, and work on reforming the system. It's criminal how one financial set back can ruin your life for years.

Pretty depressing. Seems like a complex problem. The people caught up in predatory lending were intelligent and middle class. Somehow they didn't see the sword of Damocles hanging above them until it was too late.

Just IMO though.
