"Today the Rev. Almost cussed a White dude out. (was I wrong?)" Fri Jan-23-15 03:13 PM by Case_One
And why? Because the BS Post-Racial world that people think we live in has some folks thinking that they can say some off-colored crap to a Black person and get away with the mess.
What Happened:
So, y'all know my son (a H.S. Senior) is making choices about schools to attend. And today I had to talk to a particular White man that's involved in the process of helping my son find the right College/Univ. Let's call him Bob. The reason I had to talk with Bob was because his office gave one of the interested schools some incorrect SAT information and I had to call the interested school's coaching staff and fix the error. (That's another long story)
Once that matter was resolved and we had come to a better understanding, I informed Bob that I had talked to two interested coaches on yesterday; an HBCU coach and an Private White Institution (PWI) coach. And they both want my son to come see them next Saturday for a visit.
Well, during the conversation Bob proceeded to explain his preference for the PWI over the HBCU. So, as he was candidly explaining his preferences for the PWI, he paused and said:
Him: I just feel that the PWI has a better academic and sports program - hands down.
Me: (Not a word, just let him cook)
Him: I hope that I'm not talking about your Alma mater by the way.
Me: No,not at all. I attended a Mercer University.
Him: Oh, no wonder you're so articulate and smart about the facts. LOL
Me: You're kidding right? (no LOL in return)
Him: I was... I was just say'in. faint LOL
Me: Well thank Bob for calling me back and allowing me the opportunity to articulately discus the facts and resolve the error. Now we're all on the same.
Him: No Problem
Me: Have a great day.
Me: Oh, I hope to see you at the game tonight.
Him: I'll be there.
Me: Ok, Bye.

preference between a specific two schools?
that makes a huge difference.
of course, dude ended up showing himself when he went to the 'you're so articulate' route.
you played it well.
btw, how is the search going? you been sending out tape? you looking at D1? D2?
what are your son's preferences for school? and i'm assuming we're talking about for football? (i know your son hoops but it seems like from your past posts that he is more of a prospect for football).
i'm asking all of this b/c my son is a re-classed sophomore trying to play basketball somewhere so we calling up coaches and trying to get folks lined up to see him in his tournaments, and this summer during AAU.
last year he had no tape at all. this year he has a lil' highlight clip from last year. he has much better tape from this year and i got to get the dvd's from the coach so we can edit down.
