it seems like his previous experience with law enforcement, and the behavior required to appear non-threatening, may be part of what led to his death.

1) They show a man getting shot and killed over and over, but they bleep out the curses?

2) The cop unnecessary escalated the situation by getting so hype. He was so hype, his directions were even unclear. In the same string of sentences he says "Put your hands up", "don't move", and "get him out of the car".

Yes, there was a gun in the glove compartment when he went for the registration. But was he reaching for it, I don't know.
But the cop just seemed way too crunk from the start. Even I would have been acting sketchy if he was in my ear like a drill sergeant with a gun in my face.

3) The suspect acted completely wrong too. Especially at the towards the end.
Why is he fighting to get out of the car when the cop is telling him not to? The cop is even trying to keep the door closed. Wrong move

4) This seemed like the perfect opportunity to use a tazer. Like a textbook case.
I don't know, maybe because he already had the gun in his hand it was too late for that option?

I'm real unclear about the gun

obviously, it's not against the law to have a gun

but if the officer is getting all hype just at the sight of a weapon

why not confiscate the weapon

instead of killing mfers?

looked like his partner on the driver side let one off in his back too

Read on another site that the officer had arrested him last summer for an related item. That's how he knew his name I guess. This may be deeper than just what we saw here. Makes no sense to just get that crunk off a traffic stop

based on a previous encounter, and the alleged previous conviction for shooting at police

but it still doesn't justify the shooting of a person with two empty hands at shoulder level.

PERIOD.

idgaf if this fool was getting out the car w/ the gun in his motherfucking HAND.

that is the LAST LAST LAST resort

is it dangerous? YES! police literally are taking their lives in their hands every interaction w/ the public & we not just expect but demand the UTMOST in care because yes...they wanna go home after their shift...but guess what? so do the people they are interacting with

im just so so sooo tired of people saying

well...there was a gun...SOMEWHERE.
well....he didnt follow instructions!
well...the officer was afraid

etc

people have to keep setting shit on fire, keep blocking traffic, keep suing cities into bankruptcy i guess until the powers that be get it

again...i totally recognize the seriousness of the police officers job. its inherent danger is why we as a culture & society give them the esteem & respect they have...they are risking their lives to protect us

HOWEVER. w/ that esteem comes great responsibility. criminals or potential criminals are people worth protecting too. that police officer "just wants to go home after work" well so does everyone else. do your job, which is to enforce the law, affect an arrest if warranted, collect evidence etc

nowhere in there does it say executioner

does it really matter?

one cop said dont move, the other said hes reaching...for what? the gun you already got out the glove box?

and the logical correlation to that if you wanna draw THAT parallel is that a) police are willing to die and b) we who get pulled over therefore should be willing to kill

actually the bull being fucked w/...is us.

I think most cops would probably pull the trigger. I think most people wouldn't move.

The only thing from your quote which was not applicable is the "willing to die" part of your statements. It's acutally the opposite. Cops definitely ain't willing to die for their job but are definitely willing to kill if they get an inkling that they are in any danger.

the power is in the pen. the vast, vast majority of people in this country, and an even more overwhelming majority of the people who are responsible for oversight or adjudicating these types of situations believe that a cop is almost always completely justified in using force.

...is that, you say we pull you over because you ran a stop sign...OK

...why the fuck are you not talking to the driver of the car?

...I have had traffic violations with friends in the whip, and they hit ME up for liscence and registration but not my passengers. Maybe that's how the do it over East. But it was some bullshit from jump.

Especially with aggro cop is calling him by his name, which seems to defeat the purpose of him needing to give you ID.

Crazy

He approaches the passenger side, but he was talking to the driver initial.

He says he ran the stop sign and asks for the driver's licence.
The driver then reaches for the compartment for his licence and there is a gun in there.

Cops here approach from the passenger side a lot, especially if you're on the highway or a busy street.

cows and chickens.

after reading the article and watching the video, that was a murder that won't be prosecuted.

dude did a 13 yr bid as a juvie for shooting at the same cop that murked him.

the cop contrived the shit outta the situation. rolling through a stop sign warrants that stop in the first place?

not saying ol dude was an innocent in the broader sense. there was heat in the glove compartment. but the cop took the gun OUT the glove compartment. and he was calling the dude by name (b/c, of COURSE he know who the cat is who licked a shot at him when he was a kid).

and he's saying shit that contradicts what's on the video.

dude in the car was in a lose/lose situation.

ppl talk about complying with the police. dude's hands are visible when the cop is yelling he's reaching, he's reaching. loud enough for his partner AND the dash cam. if dude stayed in the car and didn't do shit the cop could have still said 'HE'S REACHING' and bust shots at him.

You're right and unfortunately he likely could have been shot either way; "he's reaching" is the equivalent to "stop resisting". It appears as though he thought he was safer laying on the ground, clearly displaying that he was not threatening the officers as a means to avoid being shot. Didn't matter, and maybe wouldn't have matter if he had stayed in the car.

This is the issue. Blood lust.

The aggression, jumpiness, nervousness, etc. no matter what dude did he was going to be killed that night imo.

UNLESS he put them out the window, as he did. sitting in the car, from that angle, cop can say ANYTHING, and his word is law, b/c it is him and his partner's testimony vs. that of the deceased and the driver, who had an ex juvenile felon cop shooter as a passenger in the whip.

>he was clearly told to not move or he was getting shot...

you haven't seen the video where the cop yells at the dude to get his driver's license and then shoots him six times when he reaches for his driver's license?

you haven't seen the numerous (now) videos of cops yelling STOP RESISTING when they are choking or beating passive and compliant victims (because the 'Stop Resisting' is picked up on the mics and becomes part of the story?)

>so the guy jumps up out the car?

sudden moves are not good. don't know his thought process. but lets not pretend that sitting in the car results in him living. this cop was aggy and escalated the situation. dude was trying to respond calmly and put himself in the position (or so it seemed from the audio and video) that he felt would protect his life.

cop asked him for license and registration.

"there's a gun in the glove compartment, officer" <--- only works for white ppl.

*doesn't tell them there's a gun in the glove compartment*

cop: "OH SHIT! THERE'S A GUN IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT!!!

the cop was safe in reaching into the car and into the glove compartment to remove the gun. if dude was gonna shoot him, why not then?

he could have pulled his flashlight and shone it into the car to better see what was up w/ dude's hands while still training the gun on him if that was his true objective. like his partner was doing on the other side.

his partner could have cuffed dude who had his hands out the window and put him on the ground and opened the door so he had the passenger in his line of fire if a stalemate continued. and then he could have gone over and assisted in dragging the other dude out of the car (or did they want him IN the car?)

and backup arrived shortly after the bullets. the other squad car could have ensured nothing jumped off.
>
>wtf?
>

what happened was the shooting cop knew EXACTLY who was in the car and that dude had a past that included bucking at a cop, and had had a run in before, and, apparently, decided he was gonna take him off the streets.

In response to Reply # 28

If his intentions were to kill from the get go, as it seems you and some others are suggesting, then he had plenty of opportunity before he actually did shoot.
He was yelling out the code word "HE'S REACHING...HE'S REACHING!!"

At that point, he could have just shot him and probably could have gotten away with it.
But he doesn't. He shows some restraint and keeps issuing commands.

It's only when dude tries to get out of the car against the cops orders when things turn tragic.
The cop is actually fighting him trying to keep the door closed. And when he makes it out, he shoots him.

be mitigating for the cop (not that he needs it, the law is stacked in his favor from jump).

>If his intentions were to kill from the get go, as it seems
>you and some others are suggesting, then he had plenty of
>opportunity before he actually did shoot.

he knows the victim (or perp as he would have seen him). what WE don't know is what happened in this guy's life AFTER he did the bid for shooting at a cop as a juvenile, as was reported. did he try to get it together, and couldn't escape the gravity of that life. was he someone known on the streets in 2015 as a problem who would have no issues dumping on a cop or anyone else? that's unknown.

if dude was still seen as a threat in the streets (by his peers, not by cops, who have their own motivations) then i can buy that the cop was legit scared.

however, if this is some dude who had a rep since childhood, still might hang w/ the 'wrong' cats, but who really ain't been about that life for over a decade, but the cops knew him and resented him being on the streets and targeted him for stops... that raises a lot of questions.

>He was yelling out the code word "HE'S REACHING...HE'S
>REACHING!!"

they yell that shit a couple times to make sure its on tape. the cop had already escalated the situation.

>But he doesn't. He shows some restraint and keeps issuing
>commands.

good point. i don't know that i'd call it restraint, but he didn't fire right away. he COULD have just been so focused on dude doing EXACTLY what he wanted to do that he gave absolutely no thought that the guy in the car felt unsafe and trapped in there.

keep in mind, this ain't happening in a vacuum. the cop in colo shot TWO separate dudes and lit them up in their car. that's been all over the news and youtube.

being in a car, in the dark and the dashcam got no angle on you, and an aggy cop w/ a gun in your face, JUST pulled a piece out the glove compartment, and you prolly know they want to take you out, anyway... the guy had plenty of life or death reasons to not trust the cop and to want to demonstrate that he was not a threat.

>It's only when dude tries to get out of the car against the
>cops orders when things turn tragic.
>The cop is actually fighting him trying to keep the door

its a bad situation.

and i was not feeling too charitable toward cops last night.

i can see a situation in which the cop was legitimately scared. but if you scared, don't stop people for bullshit (rolling through a stop sign) at night time. they could have called for and waited for backup before approaching.

and used the loudspeaker to tell the dudes to put their empty hands out of the car.

the way that cop handled it almost guaranteed that someone was getting shot.
