He inherited a lousy situation with a ton of baggage and managed to put most things back on the upswing. But there are some areas where I think he deserves some legit criticisms.

Unfortunately, the opposition party doesn't do legit criticisms. They rely on fearmongering and overblown rhetoric. Which makes me feel like I have to defend him more than I think I want.

He is also responsible for many innocent civilian death's in Pakistan.

He also let the greatest criminals in U.S. history get off with bonuses. I am of-course speaking about the U.S. Economy crash and the culprits behind it which are all closely tied to Obama.

The people of Palestine are under constant attack. Israel is effectively ethnically cleansing the region. It is clear that Israel is partnered with the United States and for a man like Obama to stand by such atrocity is shocking to me, and indicative of the lack of his power and/or conviction.

That being said, he is the best U.S. president in a long time. His efforts are definitely a positive step in the right direction.

I'm good with Obama. He is who I thought he would be.

Like are people really feeling a lot better off than a year ago?

I wasn't ready to criticize BHO when gas was 5.00 so I can't really praise him for getting gas to 2.50.

I am not really criticizing BHO I just think this whole thing is media driven. The media drove the narrative that his presidency was in shambles last year mainly by printing stories with pictures like this.

http://www.texasfred.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Sad-Obama1.jpg

and now they are saying he is doing great by printing pictures of him looking like this

not to say they're as good as they appear on paper, or that obama is responsible for $2 gas but...

2 years into Mitt Romney's term, unemployment is under 6%, the dow is almost 18k, and gas prices are cut in half....

shit.. Fox would be sucking him off as the second coming of Reagan. talking about how he turned it all around, and there would likely be a much larger portion of the population buying into the hype.

instead you got republicans now talking about "but what about income inequality?" lol

So much of this is just inevitable and whoever was in office at the time would have benefited immensely from it.

all romney would have had to do was ride it out and not do something drastic to get in the way, then take credit when the numbers were good enough.

that's pretty much what obama has done the last 2 years.

the timing of gas prices are kind of a bonus, but that shit would have been like $199! #thanksmitt!

It's kind of sad if that's going to be all people take from this speech... he hit so many good notes; so many things that as a European you don't expect a US President to be able to say (strengthening unions, extending an olive branch to Cuba, child-care as an economic problem)

Plus, the bit where he said "Every step of the way we were told our approaches would fail and ruin the economy, but look, it worked and is still working, here's numbers!" was utterly fantastic.

I even appreciated the phrase Middle Class Economics the first 25 times he said it.

I don't know why, but even as an outsider it's been a great feeling to see a politician like BHO in the White House.

like when he brought up making Community College free and Boehner sat there like he had to take a shit?

or that half-assed moment about relations with Cuba, and the pan to Rubio wanting to punch his seat?

or the tired bullshit of there isn't a Black, White, Democratic, Republican America?

or yet another "jack and jill's" story is our story, that Obama's writers always seem to hit in his speeches

or the comedy of Obama talking about its 2015, time for women to get paid equally, and Republicans (EVEN THE WOMEN)on national TV stayed in their seats like petulant children/

or when Obie adressed income inequality only to have repubs after the speech flip it to redistribution?

you really think folk missed ALL that over an epic chingaso thrown at disrespectful white man talking shit in the middle of his speech?

His yes we can line was a lie that worked because the nation wasn't just complicit, it almost demanded the lie.

Yours isn't a system designed to let a leader develop a vision a have an honest opportunity to execute it.

So what is left for a man like that? Be an effective politican. Given the environment he operates in, he has excelled in that regard. The rest is just America.

Just IMO though.

it's extreme for one office to straight up tackle multiple generations of fucked up military positions, an economy backed by shakiness, an American dream in desperate need of revision, prison-industrial complex, deregulation that both sides royally fucked and more shit...

capitalism in general requires far too much scaling back for anyone who excelled in the system to buck that system

Obama already told us that he believed that Bipartisanship was the pathway to the promised land. If that's what got him to this point, who is to say he doesn't still believe that's the way to go?

amazes me how we take Obama being the first black president for granted...

If you look at the stories of the first black ANYTHING u will get tales of triumph, disappointments, dealing with stonewalling racists, having to be better than your white peers, ect......

And when u take the stories of Jackie Robinson, Jack Johnson, black high ranking military officers, black medical pioneers, black entertainers, and any black politician that had to rise above systematic, good ol-boy politics before Obama was even born, u realize that what Obama has been able to achieve is quite impressive...Straight up...

U guys do realize that Obama is President during a time TODAY when Georgia is celebrating a Confederate general's birthday, right?

I think we need to understand that 8 years of an Obama presidency is not enough to unravel a history in which black folks only 40 plus years ago got the right to vote....

What he has done is par for the course with being FIRST. And at times Obama, justified criticism and all, has been able to achieve some things that politically has been quite history-making....

Just saying...

In the world of politics where terrorists are going completely HAM, we gotta swing that big stick....The real issue is doing it in a very intelligent way....I believe Obama has handled that the best as possible...Obama's foreign policy is the least of my worries considering what we went through the W.Bush years...Unless I was a super naive individual...

We've been swinging that big stick for decades, and there's still terrorism. In fact, the Pentagon's own report found that the #1 cause of terrorism is...surprise! Our foreign policy.

http://www.salon.com/2009/10/20/terrorism_6/

And what most exacerbates anti-American sentiment, and therefore the threat of Terrorism? “American direct intervention in the Muslim world” — through our “one sided support in favor of Israel”; support for Islamic tyrannies in places like Egypt and Saudi Arabia; and, most of all, “the American occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan“:

You support Obama's wars for the same reason the rest of the supposed left does. Because he's a cool, black Democrat.

"Obama's wars" is basically setting up a few drones and blowing up shit with some outposts here and there, buffered by specialized military teams....The HIGH and needless bodycounts we were experiencing under the Bush administration was on some other shit...I can read the numbers and see the difference....

If u think both r the same in terms of the amount of dead and mangled Americans that came home from those post 911 wars and the ridiculous economic toll those wars had on our economy, then u r just doing too much...

Like I said, u think Obama is just as bad as W....

His foreign policy has been a very mixed bag and the best thing you could say about it is that he has known where to ride the fence at times.

The drone thing is really misguided. You're looking at a small number of American lives potentially at risk versus a larger number of non-combatant lives from various other nations. That's misguided. It's less about whether or not the planes are piloted and more about whether we should be dropping bombs on cities around the world and executing people without trials. Let's not get started on torture and all his broken promises when it comes to human rights.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

There was more than just a "small" amount lives lost during those wars under W. Bush. I guess I'm a pragmatic guy when it comes to drones.......

But outright torture? I'm not in that bag. To tell u the truth that was one of the most disappointing parts of his campaign....The fact that Obama gets around the rules by having captives tortured at black sites is some bullshit...

So you agree that he should not have locked up whistle blowers, some of whom exposed his drone/ war crimes, but you are okay with the drone murders themselves?? Okay.

So keep bombing away, right? Even in countries that don't want drones there? that's a great plan.

Dude, anyone that has been paying even the slightest amount of attention knows Obama is an empty suit and has nothing but a speech. He's been that way since day one. Everyone is creaming themselves cause he had some slick lines in the SOTU, but just like someone pointed out above he's being real bold now that he's a lame duck. Dude has been playing black folks from the start...we're just too fuckin naive as a whole to grasp that. And I know some folks will claim they knew he was just a politician and didn't expect shit out of him, but that's nothing but bullshit.

>So you agree that he should not have locked up whistle

>are okay with the drone murders themselves?? Okay.

I look at the world as complex and very fucked up...I had a cousin that died in the Iraq war under Bush. So I have a different view of these things. My issue with Whistle Blowers have less to do with drones and more to do with people shining a light on warrantless wiring tapping ON AMERICANS facing serious jail time...That concerns me a lot more than people facing jail time for leaking info on our battles abroad....

What happened in Gitmo was something worthy of snitching....

But that's different than the US destroying targets with drones that wipe out innocent people. I would rather have drones than another loved one come back in the body bag...

ing real bold now that
>he's a lame duck. Dude has been playing black folks from the
>start...we're just too fuckin naive as a whole to grasp that.
>And I know some folks will claim they knew he was just a
>politician and didn't expect shit out of him, but that's

Hey...I get it...u got no use for Obama. But as I said above, I'm a realest that understands that black folks just got the right to vote 40 plus years ago....And now we have had a black President who made it possible for my own aunt to get treatment for cancer without going broke because of the affordable care act...

To make Obama out to be a VILLAIN or a MESSIAH is pretty silly...He's a politician that has done some things that I like and some things that I don't like....But when judged against that last guy W that nearly bankrupted the government, Obama looks like a more nuanced, intelligent alternative...

bombs are not all that precise, they kill people who werent meant to be killed.

even if they were more efficacious, you've got the extrajudicial nature of a lot of these executions to consider. i get that it was bush's baby, but obeezy has expanded it considerably instead of shrinking it. same thing with surveillance.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I'm no Hawk......But I would rather have drones than another kid going over there getting killed..

My biggest beefs with Obama have been what I believe to be unlawful surveillance of the American people and his administration's disturbing treatment of journalists....

But he's also done some things that I like. A lot...

all those democrats rich den a mug and was quaking in their boots at the market collapse just like the GOP

they had 110% of the political will of the public to go after folks at that time, break up 2big2fail, etc

and balked

now 4 yrs later, they issuing slap-on-the-wrist fines that the banks pay with pocket change, and put the rest of their money into lobbying for loose rules again

the wiretap/whistleblower case on how the fed reserve was getting pimped by goldman was pathetic

(Obviously I'm not talking to you directly Mongo lol) We got him elected. That's the main thing I take from his presidency. I can celebrate the fact that he was elected president, but I can't celebrate the man AS a president.

For all the hubub, black voter turnout increased a whopping 2% in 2008 and the overall turnout was still pretty low. Yes, 95% of those votes were votes for Obama, but that wasn't a huge surge either since black always vote Democrat.

You had two thirds of Latino votes going to him and he fared better than any Democrat since Carter with white men. You had a little higher turnout among young people who supported him strongly.

I think you have to give his campaign more credit than you're giving it and also not play into the hands of the "reverse racism" idiots who would make the same statement you made but in a very different tone.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I definitely see your point there. From an anecdotal perspective, I saw a level of solidarity from many of my people that I hadn't seen in many years. And that sticks with me to this day. I understand the argument that that type of blind allegiance is foolish, but often times those arguments are rooted in racism & tricknology.

i didnt expect him to be a messiah that stood above all the nature of american politics and society, or waved a wand to free everyone who suffered injustice.

within the framework he's in, i think he's done a more than adequate job. there are some disappointing continuations or expansions from the previous administration to be sure. there were also some other things that were "progressive" that i think he used for political capital without actually doing much to facilitate. but overall he has nudged a lot of things in a somewhat progressive direction and looks like he may continue to during these lame-duck years.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
