spun off from this other post on page 1 (Amber Rose is attractive but she loses points with me for attention whoring)

Listening to his latest album, I dont enjoy the majority of Lupe Fiasco's music but I'll admit he can rap. they're going crazy over it in the lesson

Now if we're talking about it being an extension of said awareness, there might be
something to that.
Kinda like you're not a b-ball player just because you have a pair of gym shoes.
But if you're b-ball player, there's a 99% chance you'll have a pair of gym shoes.
More along them lines than "equaling".

And keen to issues that effect the black community then theres a 99% chance that you don't wear and have never worn straight hair weaves, permed your hair, straightened your hair, jerry curled , s curled or employed any method of styling that alters your hair from it's original form or texture...?

if you're "conscious" then 99.9% chance RIGHT TODAY you will not have 4 bundles of 28inch Indian/Mongolian Remy in your head
nor will you have red+blonde highlights

you may have a jherri curl or perm back in 88 but TODAY you won't be rocking no RHOA weave

and I do not have a problem wearing an occasional weave. Hair is fun to change around and it's a personal choice.
However the problem lies in some women who won't ever in their Black ass lives leave out the house without a weave.

I went out with a chick who straight up said, "But if we have a chemical that can make your hair straight, why wouldn't you use it?"

This was a grown woman who said those words in the year of our lord 2014.

I'm not a fan of straight hair on black women, but I can appreciate a nice looking hair style, or someone wanting to change up their look...

but there are still a lot of black women who don't look at it as a fashion choice, they still think the only way to be attractive is to have straight hair.

If I hadn't encountered this shit personally, I doubt I'd get so into the discussion.

Hell, I remember my dad throwing a bitch fit when my sister cut her hair, which is a big no-no in the Puerto Rican community.

Now she, along with my mother and I have locks.

Yet somehow have been made the face for all women that choose to wear extensions period.

Yea I wear 36 inch weaves, I've had blonde and red hair, ive had box braids, I've had my hair permed,I 've two strand twists, I've had an afro and much, much more. And my state awareness did not change regardless of what hair style I chose to rock. I just get irritated when people try and put every woman that chooses to wear extensions in that category.

but the majority of black women have made progress on internalized racism and self-hate to the point that the multi-billion dollar black beauty industry doesn't actively profit off of this phenomenon?

Come on Hannah. You can't honestly believe that can you?

How can racism and white supremacy be so prevalent everywhere in society, except for the one place where you feel like you've made personal growth? That sounds awfully convenient.

That would be like me claiming that because I like dark women and natural hair, that a large number of black men aren't color struck. We both know that isn't true, so I'm curious as to why you think black women have over come this component of racism but the men haven't?

But perhaps I need to expand my circle to include chicks that think leaving the house without a weave or perm is unacceptable since according to you all theyre in such abundance.

Lastly that industry is grossing so much cash because the shit is expensive, and even with all that being the average black woman still ain't walking around with 4 bundles of
30 inch Indian hair in their head.

In your worldview black men shit on black women constantly, praise the shit out of white women, and for whatever reason hardly any black women, who buy straight hair and wear their hair styles in European fashions haven't internalized any of the supposed hate for black beauty and praise of Eurocentric standards that the men are spitting out?

How in the hell can that possibly make sense to you? If that were true, why do you care whether or not black men say these things? It's not like you're taking them to heart. Black women apparently have been burning holes in their heads for over a century, not because they were made to feel like black hair was ugly, but just because you know, fashion.

I'm sorry, but you just set up a ridiculous double standard, and as a black man, quite frankly, I'm starting to be concerned about how you perceive us, because it seems like you think we're the only ones in this thing who are trapped up in this racist society we've got.

Also, if those type of women aren't in your circle, mazoltov, but sixteenstone and I aren't speaking out of our asses. I've lived in the south and the north, I've been around American blacks and Afro-Latinos, I've taught little black girls before, believe me that hair industry is profiting off the pain and insecurities of a lot of black women.

If you don't want to hear that fine, but I'm not saying that as an indictment against you, I'm saying it because I think you're willfully ignoring a real problem just because you're afraid that admitting that there is a problem will reflect poorly on you, even if it doesn't.

Well we know this is true, Im not denying the history of what this is rooted in, what Im saying is everyone that chooses to wear a weave or straight hair isnt any less conscious about blackness or black issues because of a fucking hairstyle so stop painting us all with the same brush.

How is it that I perceive black men? Please tell me, aside from acknowledging that some of them have colorism issues and how black twitter niggas use twitter as a medium to disrespect black women in a way that they dont offline.

I dont doubt this, but I think it is fizzling out. Young girls are very impressionable, but as you grow up, you also grow in self awareness and alot of those insecurities you once had you also grow out of. Thats why I think its important to have a strong familial structure who are also self aware and "conscious" that can enforce these things. Lots of industries profit off the insecurities of women, the hair industries, fashion industry, make up industry, fitness industry and the list goes on and on and on.

Im not saying that these issues dont exist, but to take it by an individual case by case basis because everyone dosent carry this hair baggage. And as the natural hair movement gains momentum I strongly believe that were seeing a decline in the hair baggage issues. Also as the natural hair movement spreads, their is a proportional incline in the use of hair weaving techniques as form of protective styling, and growth promotion. Lets also not ignore this either. Instead of the ole " nope all yall bitches just wanna look white!"

You keep saying that we're painting all of you with the same brush, because not all women who wear weaves are self-hating, or brainwashed, etc.

And yet...

No one ever said that, and no matter how many times you try to levy that charge, you aren't going to find anyone here actually saying that.

I never said, "All women who wear weaves are self hating."

My point has consistently been, "Yeah, they aren't all self-hating, but there are still a lot of women who feel that they need to straighten their hair or wear weaves to be pretty."

So we can disagree about the extent of the problem, but can we at least agree that I'm not lumping all of these women together? So you know, no one is talking about you specifically.

Okay, so you go with the whole, I "never said that" charge too.

Well unlike the charge you're levying against me, you do....

Make posts complaining about colorism, black men, the disrespect of black women, and internal disputes amongst black women. You demand that people acknowledge your particular worldview as indicative of a truth in black life. You assert that you have insight into why light-skinned women would have social anxiety with respect to their skin color, an insight I might add that is based entirely off of your subjective experience as a woman who isn't light skinned.

And yet...

When people try to draw a pretty clear brightline between these issues and one fact of black life that has been proven through empirical data in terms of money, and sociological studies in terms of how people rate the attractiveness of black people, you want to start in about how these things are actually pretty benign, and you can't brush with broad strokes.

So yeah, you might not have said those specific things, but your complaints, posts, and opinions all lead to you being just flat out ungrounded on this issue.

How in the hell, can you simultaneously acknowledge colorism as a genuine issue plaguing black women in 2015, but hair texture isn't? Even after seeing the data about money spent in the black hair care industry?

You honestly think that the natural hair care industry has been such a roaring success that it undid centuries of degradation? Meanwhile colorism, a sister issue, is still a problem worth discussing? All of those advertisements, the celebrity bullshit, etc. that contribute to colorism don't also contribute to hair issues?

Man that's convenient! Good thing the natural hair movement came in and set Hollywood, Madison Avenue, Wall Street, and several centuries of racism straight in like what? A few decades, and some how the black hair care industry managed to continue to grow, without a noticeable dip in the amount of relaxers and weaves the sell.

During that same time period of course colorism has been alive and fucking kicking!

We get it. You aren't self hating. Your hair is your choice. Some women have tried to shame you for wanting to wear straight hair.

I'm sorry that happened, but you're underselling the problem.

And that's whatever, if it ain't your fight it ain't your fight, but in the context of the other things you've said....

"I guess bruh, some black women have hair issues and some dont, and Im not gonna paint them all the same because they arent. Das it."

There really isn't any reason for complaining about social prejudices because you know, some people feel one way, some people feel another. Why paint anyone anyway right? Some people have color issues, some don't. Why paint them all the same because they aren't?

And don't say it's because colorism is a bigger issue than hair, unless you accompany that statement with a figure showing the billions Black American women spend on skin bleaching creams compared to dead people's hair.

I didn't demand anything but for folks to stop painting with such a broad brush. I didn't suggest I had insight to anything I simply shared a story that a light skinned woman shared with me. And the whole point of me even sharing that story was to acknowledge how my own insensitivities toward their issues are calloused because I can't relate.

If that's not who you are then take comfort in knowing that and don't worry about what other people perceive it.

But you understand much economic power the 5 billion dollars Black women contribute to the hair industry is? That a B for billion.
Natural hair is still the minority in most places. I went to Tampa, Florida few months ago and those women talked so much shit about my hair.
They gave me side eyes or they would go out their way to say well Your hair actually looks good like "that"

My own mom, sister, aunties, cousins, both Grandmothers do not and have never worn their hair natural.
Yes in recent years there's been a movement. But even in that movement lots of women are chasing Traci Ellis Ross curls.
There's a huge problem that still exists worldwide when it comes to Black women and hair. There's no denying that.
It's still a significant amount of women having ingrained in them from birth that their natural hair is ugly.

Just follow the money. That speaks volumes alone.

yeah, i know it sucks, that's why i couldnt get down with them folks
but yeah, if you dont always rock a natural and/or want to go live in a compound and grow your own vegetables, then you aint even on the introductry level of pro-blackness as far as they're concerned

and i base my thoughts on what i see on your facebook and instagram
check the facebooks of hte "pro-black" groups i sent and see what they're on
now THAT'S about as pro-black as it gets

i know them personally
how you going to have scantilly clad Black women all over your website and claim to be "pro-black"?
the fetisization and misogyny of Black women you perpetuate by even giving those things a "voice"
even if they are "vintage"

how you going to claim to be "pro-Black" when you rocking blonde hair?
at the root of you even liking or wanting blonde hair in your head is self-hate and thinking white ppl blonde hair is "nice" i won't even go as far as "better than" kinky non-blonde Afrocentric hair

and dont come with that "some african tribes had blonde hair....see the aboriginals"

listen, i know the "pro-black" crowd and was even amongst them for a while
but i was cast out of the group cause i chose an ivy league grad school over morehouse and i chose a white wife instead of a "sistah queen"

say what you want, but if you playing by the white mans rules and in their world, you're not "about as pro black as the come in 2015"
you can be "mid-range" or "luke warm" pro-black
but not the pro-blackity blackest i know that's out there

and im not trolling
just telling you what the entry criteria are for their world

this is to both yall actually

Into or by whatever this pro black group you speak of is.

The rest of are us content with the state of our " pro blackness " and dont need or seek to be defined by their standards.

They are not the authority on pro blackness nor do their definitions of " pro blackness" hold any weight to anyone outside of whatever group this is.

holding looks to define how conscious someone is. The revolution has facebook pages now.
But however back to what we were originally trying to talk about. I don't think it's a minority in the same way you do.
Only because it's just way too much time/money vested to keep weaves in the head no matter what.
I think a minority would be something like 5 million dollars a year collectively.

You: because you have a SAG card and want acceptance into Lilly white Hollywood

You know what's funny
In that post I never fawned over her
I think I posted one video in there of her twerking and saying i'd like for my wife to learn how to do that.

My first three posts in there was saying she was regular looking and then I went on to chastise guys about trying to psycho analyse her.

Go read the post again.
I'm ragging on guys for trying to break down her mental well being as a mother because she is posing in a bikini and pumps

How is that trolling?

Telling guys to stfu and just oogle the half nakedness.
Id do it in real life too.
We walking through the mall, we spot a fine phillie
Make a few misogynitic comments amongst each other
Until one of us says "well yeah she probably had bad credit tho"

Like who cares! Just take these few seconds in and keep it pushing.

I'm a troll cause I ask why black folks tear shit up (their own neighborhood) but white folk keep their shit up and in tact.

I asked if we can name a white ghetto in a city area
But no rural ass trailer park.

How is that trolling?

Other than that I post pics of shit I cook or tell about my nightlife /strip club escapades
How is that trolling?

Folks want to pop shit about my white wife but have never seen a picture of her.
LoL

I said we are ALL broke in the grand scheme of things.
I said none of us can go on shopping sprees in Dolce or Laurent.

But I did call you an escort
If you meet a guy on an online "dating" site and he pays you to go "furniture shopping" with him but you're not an interior designer and just freshly moved out of the dorms, I'm not sure what you'd call that.

But by the text book that is the definition of an escort.
I don't know what else to call it.
Pay a random stranger just to go shopping with you?
Never heard of that before.

No trolloh

>so... If you're "black and conscious"

This highly depends on what you mean by "conscious".
One can be keen to issues and still be on some anti-Blackness.

>theres a 99% chance that you don't wear and have never worn
>straight hair weaves, permed your hair, straightened your
>hair, jerry curled , s curled or employed any method of
>styling that alters your hair from it's original form or
>texture...?

I'm having trouble understanding why you say "never worn". I don't think I (or anyone I know)
has ever implied that you couldn't be "conscious" if you've EVER worn a straight/altered hair, lol.
That's just silly.

Before I even address anything else, that has to be understood.

that happens less often than people on here think or want to admit tho.

there are posts where 3-4 people are going against the grain and fighting against the popular opinion, but more often than not, its a few squeaky wheels who have an opinion and it randomly gets tagged as "OKP"

usually its anything that clowning will get laughs and cosigns

A lot of folks here just can't state their opinion and stand by it. Too afraid to ruffle feathers or be perceived negatively, I guess.

I just can't rock with that personally. Rubs me the wrong way.
