"Do you think that black women play victim often?"
Sun Jan-18-15 05:14 PM by SimplyHannah

Or is it warranted?

Just a side bar question sparked by today's Twitter shenanigans revolving around the white chick with box braids.

I'll expound on a the Twitter incident. A 12 year old blonde white chick got box braids and tweeted a picture of it. An asian chick jumps in her mentions demanding that she take out the braids because its appropriation of black culture xyz, a few more preteens jump in her mentions expressing their disdain for the braids as well, then it blew up into a big Twitter debate. And as usual black Twitter niggas followed suit coming to the defense of the girl and began with the black women slander, weave shaming, and saying that they're constantly trying to make themselves victim.

Of course there are a few opportunists that use their blackness/femininity to spit hate towards people, but that's found in every group.

"They used to call me Baby Luke....but now? The whole damn 2 Liiiive Crew."

on twitter.

140 characters don't really lend themselves to context. Jokes? sure. Snark? uh-huh. real talk about socio-political concepts? Fuck no.

I'm really really tired of everything devolving to "black wo/men hate each other", and I'm REALLY fucking sick of bloggers trying to make a living off spreading ideas of black pathology.

This was a conversation between tweens.
An Asian girl had a problem with it.
And grown black men came in with some bs...

I'd just get off the twitternet. This shit is depressing.

Black women carry a lot of fucking burden.

Many us manage this crazy ass world with grace.
That's beautiful to see.

I can't make my ass smaller.
I can't make my hair straighter.

I'm not going to.

But I am constantly getting messages that I am less than, or that I'm not beautiful.

Or that I'm sassy.
That I give it up easy.
That I'll turn into one of those "RHOA bitches" if provoked.

Many of us suffer from undiagnosed depression.
Our feelings, our lives are constantly seen as less than.

Do black girls that get shot by the police have the same attention and coverage? No, they don't.

I won't touch on the classism issues affecting Black women, because it devolves into sexist dribble here.

I could go on and on...

But the Black men and Black women on the internet taking jabs at each other don't realize that they are talking about the same oppressed, poverty-stricken Black person. The same shit affects us but in amazingly different ways because of our gender/sexuality.

seriously, you've got to put this shit into context. Dynasty destruction, Slavery, Racism. Black women have the right to tell white women to sit the fuck down

& any white woman that doesn't, is a cunt

and any black woman that doesn't recognize that, is prolly sucking a white cunt

It was like an Asian chick, 3 black girls and two or 3 gay boys. They jumped up in and ran with the " all black bitches mad " narrative and of course black women responded accordingly.

I have to log off sometimes and remember that I actually live in a real world...and yea, the people on there exist in the real world, but just not in my circles and nowhere I'll have to interact with them, so it works.

Like, even when its 5 guys and 5 girls, our gender wars never get as bad as they do on Twitter, or even as bad as we've seen on OKP. But people online can hide and say all type of dumb shit. Half of them really don't mean it, they just say it for attention and to get folks riled up.

One Black girl a month ago was Tweeting about how Black men are idiots for thinking Black women really need them for anything at all, and how they can have Black kids without using a Black man. I simply said "we need each other" and she said "Get the fuck out of here, we don't need you." and then she blocked me.

MOST black folks ON twitter are young as shit
so MOST of that convo is goofy young folks shit - celebrities, dating, joneing, gossip, and nudes.
A handful of goofy fucks making stupid jokes =/= "Black men don't like black women"

It's not really the 30+ crowd, but the younger ones. Offline no one would ever dare spew that amount of disrespect and hatred toward black women, but online (Twitter) gives them the platform and the anonymity do so.

Everything has become so influenced popular culture where blacks especially bw have a small presence it's even begun to trickle down into hip hop and there has been erasure of the BW here too, in our own music.

They may be the majority on #twittervixen twitter, but no where else
and not even on twitter as a whole. And a lot of it is new age
pigtail pulling.

But then they become the focus, and the focus is not on the majority
of BM who are respectful and then a narrative gets pushed. That's
wack.

Lmao

Do you understand the relationship that people of color have with America? You don't think maybe that's what theyre mad about?

Do you understand the relationship that women have with America? You don't think maybe that's what they're mad about?

Do you understand how the two intersect and that black women have to deal with the disadvantages of falling into both of those categories? You don't think maybe that's what they're mad about?

No I don't think you " thought " at all when you wrote that reply. Lastly, any moderately attractive woman can get a white man regardless of their race, white men ain't no prize and they definitely arent as picky as you think.

say to undermine the experience of disadvantaged people.

Men say it about women
Whites say it about people of color
Straights say it about glbtqs

And when we buy into and use that language, we're upholding the system that disadvantages those people.

I think black people as a whole tho, gotta get rid of the "fake
outrage police" and focus on real issues tho. We really do waste
time and energy with fake outrage on dumb shit like that. And that's
just one example.
