Pemberton mother accused of setting infant on fire in roadway charged with murder

A 22-year-old township woman has been charged with murder after allegedly setting her newborn child on fire Friday night on Simontown Road, Burlington County authorities announced Saturday.

Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier, 22, of Rutgers Avenue, in Pemberton, was charged with one count of murder, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi and Pemberton Township police Chief David H. Jantas.

Officers from the Pemberton Township Police Department were dispatched to Simontown Road just before 11 p.m. Friday after a resident called to report the fire in the roadway.

The baby was airlifted to Saint Christopher's Hospital in Philadelphia about 15 minutes later and was reported to be alive and breathing at that time, authorities said.

The baby died approximately two hours later.

"The investigation revealed that the infant had been doused with an accelerant prior to being set ablaze," according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

Dorvilier was taken into custody at the scene. An autopsy on the infant will be performed by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood.

The details of the baby's birth are being investigated. The investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Pemberton police department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

Bail for Dorvilier was set at $500,000 by the Hon. Jeanne T. Covert, J.S.C. She was lodged in the Burlington County Corrections and Work Release Center, in Pemberton Township.

I missed the tail end of a radio show about this subject and this just brought it back to my mind.

that's not something most women would openly admit
only a small % of women even admit to PPD

i had ppd and my insurance company wouldn't pay for my therapy, they only wanted to cover meds, which do help but i found my therapy sessions to be more helpful in dealing with the anxiety and coming up with coping strategies.

a lot of ppl don't understand PPD, esp family members. they automatically think it means an extreme, like this particular situation. honestly, i think what happened is HORRIFIC, but i don't think this was just something that just happened. there had to be some unrecognized signs that led up to this.

that andrea yates case in houston, she had ppd and her husband refused to let her get treatment.

shame is a huge part of PPD and the biggest reason i am so outspoken about having had it.

i hesitate to say someone who does this is evil and should rot in hell, etc, bc i actually feel like this is beyond the realm of evil.
