"5 favorite sandwiches?"
Sat Jan-17-15 10:55 AM by Lardlad95

5. Fried Bologna with mustard on wheat: This isn't so much a favorite sandwich as it is my go to when I'm super drunk and I'm already at home. It isn't that it's a great sandwich, it's that I can make about 7 of the things before I pass out on the couch.

4. Mortadella, swiss, and mustard on a roll: New Jersey introduced me to the glorious meat that is mortadella. It's like if bologna won an all expenses paid trip to Italy and came back with a greater appreciation for its heritage. I'm sure this shit will kill me, but fuck it.

3. Peanut butter and Jelly: Put it this way. I don't eat these a lot, but when I want one there is nothing on this planet that can sate my hunger save for the rich taste of nostalgia. Also, I wish someone had told me that you can grill these things when I was younger. I would have led a happier life.

2: Egg Salad on rye: Just like you can tell if someone can cook by how bad they can fuck up a simple egg, I judge delis based on their egg salad. A good egg salad sandwich is my ideal lunch food for a busy day. Just filling enough to keep you going, but light enough so that it doesn't put you on your back. If you get that wrong, you need to reevaluate having a career in food service.

1: The Rueben: I'm not even sure what to say. I love all of the components separately, but some how when they're together they form a flavor profile so powerful they even make me believe that thousand island dressing tastes good. That is indeed a mighty task.

Now you go...I want to read some food porn.

19. "Steak Italian, Cutlet Italian, Original Cin, Katz's Pastrami, Uncle Mike..."
In response to Reply # 0

The Cutlet at Tino's in NYC is probably the best, I fucking love chicken cutlet sandwiches if they are done right (eggplant parm in the same style is great, too). Typically I like mine with roasted red peppers, red gravy (tomato sauce) and sharp provolone. Sometimes I also liked mixed greens (broccoli rabe and spinach). I also like that combination with steak or no meat at all. So I guess that is three sandwiches right there.

The Original Cin will always be my favorite turkey sandwich, though there are some really good ones out there. The spicy cheese and the smooth sauce just mesh together so perfectly.

Katz's pastrami is just simple and to the point, it does not fuck around. I used to like Wolfie's and Rascal House pastrami in Miami but I heard they both closed. Bummer.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

the convenience of the location helped but i would have gone even if it was further. everything there was pretty good, the steaks, the veggie sandwich, the roast pork and even the intermittently available crab cake sandwiches. the only shit they didn't have from the OG tony luke's was veal. their sides were horrible though lol. greasy ass shit.

Philly has the best loaded-up ones and ones you can find on average, but I had some really spectacularly flavorful ones in NYC. I try not to eat cured meats now but I used to love them back in the day with some sharp prov, oil/vinegar, tomato and roasted red peppers.

in Chicago

1. "Chivito" Cuban sandwich from Cafecito. Steak, ham, bacon, fried egg, mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, onion, citrus mayo.

2. "Sunny Side Beef" Banh Mi sandwich from Lotus Cafe. Sauteed beef, caramelized onion, sunnyside up egg, sweet potato fries.

3. Beef & Cheddar Croissant from Portillo's. It's like an italian beef on a croissant.

4. Steak Supreme from Taurus Flavors. Sliced steak chopped on the grill with seasoned grilled onion, american cheese, sweet sauce, sweet peppers and tomatoes on a steak roll.

5. Gym Shoe sandwich from any hood spot in Chicago. Gyro meat, roast beef, corned beef.

but I love Duke's. If I get a burger or something I never get mayonnaise on it, but Duke's is a bit of a staple where I'm from.
As far as Spam goes it's one of those things I don't eat now because I ate so much of it as a kid. I just used it to fill the fifth slot lol.

In response to Reply # 0

no real order

Fluffer Nutters as a kid were like an upgrad from P n J

I still revisit these on my fat boy days

Italian Hoagies were also a regularity as a kid

My grandfather had a childhood friend that owned a deli

an Italian Hoagie and gingerale were the cure for a common cold (still to this day)

Moms made Tuna Fish sandwiches on the regular

still get them from time to time, probably convinced they're good for me

I've refined my cheesesteak order accordingly

PizzaSteak with Wiz and Onions, fuck what you talkin' bout

In a pinch, a hot pastrami with provolone will do the trick.

In response to Reply # 0

I've always loved the Cuban sammich. But about 2 years ago we found an amazing Cuban cafe near my house and their is incredible. Easily jumped to the top of my list. Now me and the wife go on a breakfast date once a week. Split a Cuban, a couple of empanadas and coffee.

#2 Pastrami - previously #1
#3 Corn Beef
#4 Carne Asada Torta - gotta have a torta on the list.
#5 Philly Cheesesteak - crazy part is the ones I have had probably arent as good as one I can get in Philly.
