i hold a very deep and heavy embarrassment about my first uber ride.

i was so fucking excited about the whole thing, at the end of the ride, i tipped the driver cash.

that was abooout 3 months ago.

i wouldn't dare do no bamma shit like that again.

what was i thinking?

it reminded me a time many lovers ago, when me and my partner were buying pizza.

we didn't get delivery, we went to go pick it up from ledos.

we at the counter, and my old lady is paying for the pizza.

i noticed that she gleefully filled out the tip portion and i immediately thought to myself 'what the fuck you doing that for, we picking it up'.

i said something, and probably soured the whole moment. but that shit threw me for a loop.

i couldn't wrap my mind around her wanting to tip this lousy nigga behind the counter.

just couldn't get it.

but in retrospect, i think she was so excited about the food, and paying, the whole thing that she couldn't help but tip like an idiot.

have you ever given a tip, and in retrospect though - why the hell did i do that (much)?

is it true the more money you have, the less tip you usually leave?.

and the poorer you are, the more inclined you are to tip (more)?

i think that's fascinating.

They're good people. Even though it made Bon Apetit's 50 best new restaurants, I don't think it's all that great. They have another place, The Livermore, that's near my house, and I think it's a LOT better. Livermore is primarily a bar, but I still think their food is better. I wonder if they're going to adopt the same structure there.

i tip because i feel like it, if the service is good i don't care if a tip is expected or not. i have tipped for pickup before, yes, if the order was complicated or they made an exception or they were busy, i will let em keep the change or slide em an extra few bucks.

yesterday i was at the supermarket. now in colombia the checkers are generally borderline retarded, slow and a disaster. this woman, who was kinda easy on the eyes as well, was very organized. I had 25 of one item and she quickly counted them and passed one *exactly* 25 times through the scanner. The other stuff she would enter as multiples and count quickly. Normally they would pass each item one by one by one by one and in very slow fashion. In short, I was impressed at her level of organization and that she checked me out fast the way a first-world clerk would. So I tipped her 5000 pesos (right now about $2 or, for her, probably about 2 hours of pay). i doubt anyone had ever tipped her before.

even if i were to get carried away in the moment like you or your elderly friend, why would i be mad about it? we are talking about a small sum of money and now someone else has it, someone else who probably needs it more, too.

Like at any nice restaurant they expect 10% and delivery guys push tips sometimes. Domino's has LA PROPINA ES VOLUNTARIA on all on their boxes and the driver ALWAYS reminds you (don't judge me, they are open late!).

I would say at a garden variety place, no, there is NO tipping and I don't see tipping at salons, barber shops, etc. There are coins changing hands all over the street though, the "I got your door" hustle type shit.

Basically, an auto dealership orders some food. Gives the driver $7 more dollars than the cost of the food. Calls the restaurant back up and causes havoc, ultimately resulting in the pizza delivery driver to come back to deliver the money. However, the auto dealership felt that they should record and publish the incident. In doing so, berate the delivery, and threaten to call back up and ask for him to be fired.
