"Cocaine Cowboys 1 and 2 are on Netflix"
Part One focuses on the Miami trade and PArt Two focuses on LA. Both were good watches, but Part One seemed to present a better picture of the overall trade. They almost touched on Iran Contra and the CIA in Part One and made absolutely no mention of "Freeway" Ricky Ross in Part Two which I found odd/interesting.
Also Part One kind of shed some light on perhaps why Florida has such infamous laws such as "Stand your ground". Seems like they are left overs from when things got pretty serious for the locals down there.
Anyway check em' out if you're so inclined.

but I thought it filled in some things left out of One. Also it made me curious about what (if anything) "Freeway" was doing around that time. The way the focus of Part Two tells it-- he was the biggest game in town. That wouldn't add up if Ricky was in business then.

I agree that the first documentary was more compelling but I also thought the 2nd one was solid, too.
Just the whole idea of how this guy Charles Cosby got involved w/the Griselda Blanco cartel in the first place. That ish took hella patience to keep writing her and she not responding back for like a year I think it was. The drug trade at that time was exploding because of the Griselda Blanco and other Columbian cartels...and right in the midst of this is this improbable blk dude from Oakland somehow mixed up in the middle of it all...

The whole Kennedy kidnapping plot that was accidentally foiled. He was right in the mix of all of that. That was kinda funny to me that he wasn't afraid and had no qualms w/getting involved w/this very dangerous underworld of drug trafficking but when it came to kidnapping a Kennedy he was like nah that's where I draw the line lol.
And
He was really the survivor out of that whole sordid world who kept his bread and didn't get killed or sent to prison.

Said the folks interviewing him told him that you REALLY see the dark side of humanity working in that field. They told him stories (from their experiences) about things such as folks using children as shields during shootouts and what have you.

I'll make sure to watch these this weekend.
Pardon my ignorance, but did Ricky Ross pump weight outside of California? My memories from Dark Alliances are foggy, but I don't remember that book referencing him branching out of Cali too tough, but I could be wrong because it's been a while since I read that book and theres a ton of names in there as well.
