"Benjamin Crump"
Thu Jan-08-15 09:32 PM by Cam

Would you choose him as your family lawyer, in the wake of a tragedy?
He's now practiced in FL, MO and now OH.

This statement is related to this...

i dont think he's barred/licensed in MO
i asked this same question at the beginning of Mike Brown and was told he was just an "advisor"

i dont think he's ever presented a case in front of a judge anywhere besides florida where is barred and his practice resides (he is a FAMU grad)

>Was he the prosecutor in either case?

if someone hires you to SUE a person for killing your dead homie and you sue but nothing happens, YOU LOST

if someone is tried in court for murder and they hire you to defend them and said person ends up getting three life sentences on top of the death penalty, YOU LOST

did i really just have to explain that?

in Trayvon's case, the nigga came thru with some bullshit ass method/logic and got the entire case so jumbled up that they let zimmeramn walk
if Crump would have pushed for Murder 2 instead of Murder 1 then mayb just MAYBE zimmerman would have did jail time

in mike brown's case, same thing
no indictment, no win = you lost

because if Trayvon woulda got justice it would be plastered all ove his website
if Mike Brown family woulda got justice it be all over his website

this way he can save face and say he never "lost" those cases
but yet and still he was VERY INTRICATELY involved?
or not?
in that case, what does he actually DO for these families besides show up and be all in the videos like Puff Daddy?

they get tons of media requests and don't want or need to be doing them all. As their spokesperson, he goes on the interviews and says what the family is feeling.

This protects them from getting ambushed by bullshit questions and having to react quickly and effectively on national TV, especially since they are not trained media professionals.

Additionally, it spares the family from having to constantly publicly relive the tragedy. He serves as a buffer who can help them keep the case from fading out of the spotlight, and answer questions in a professional, prepared, and measured manner.

your babymomma get punched in the face by a white flashlight cop?
call Quanell if you want to get paid

this is how these guys make their money.
fly around the country to be in front of the cameras for high profile cases.
Jesse Sharpton do the same and many dont like it.

their pastor at their church could have been their spokesperson
but Crump flies up from Florida on his dime to lead the charge
call me an incredulous skeptic

>they get tons of media requests and don't want or need to be

>interviews and says what the family is feeling.

>This protects them from getting ambushed by bullshit questions

In response to Reply # 55

the families weren't parties in the criminal cases.

the families didn't sue Zimmerman or Wilson in criminal court.

the families didn't prosecute either defendant. the states of Florida and Missouri, respectively, prosecuted each defendant via the states' attorneys assigned to the cases. the states' attorneys lost those cases, not the families or Crump.

fuck you.

He provides legal consultation to families and also brings PUBLICITY to their causes
But it mainly hinges on the PUBLICITY portion as I'm sure he can get into hot water with providing too much "legal consultation" to a person in a state he is not Barred in

i only know a handful of lawyers, all from the northeast/mid atlantic pretty much
not sure how common it is in other parts of the country for a lawyer to sound like that
but i thought that was kind of odd

They do and they have but because they also have had self-serving agendas it should give us some pause whenever they get in front of national tragedies (Tawana Brawley/Duke La crosse players)

In response to Reply # 20

not the general public outside of florida but very well known within the black lawyer circuit

i used to design for the National Bar Associations annual convention and he was consistently listed as one of the top lawyers under 40

his firm was already very well known in florida hence why the martin family looked to him/his firm for the case

that case just skyrocketed him into the national profile and obviously makes him a likely choice for other families going through similar situations

basically he didn't just come out of nowhere

the key to happiness is not being rich;
it's doing something arduous and
creating something of value and then
being able to reflect on the fruits of your labor

In response to Reply # 0

Here is his website.
http://www.garylawgroup.com/gary/

We joke and use to call him the Master P of law because he is always showing off his jets and he had a promo video that looked like a rap video. Look at him standing in front of his Bentleys on his website.

Also sounds like an old black slave preacher when he talks. His courtroom antics are legendary. Every closing argument is a sermon.

At any rate he is also an incredibly effective litigator.

A friend of mine from a top law firm where partners earn 1000 an hour faced of against him in a litigation where they represented motorola I think. They had jokes about his courtroom antics but he mopped the floor up with them. My Friend from the big law firm didn't realize how well he played to juries versus these fancy pants new york lawyers.

I am just saying. Only one thing matters with Litigators, can they win.

In 2001, the firm represented Zaniyah Hinson, a case discussed on the Oprah Winfrey Show where a two year old died after being left in a daycare van for four hours in 104 degree temperatures.
ESPN Sports Center broadcast another case the firm handled which documented Leeronnie Ogletree, a 39 year old who had been sexually molested by the Boston Red Sox Clubhouse manager when he was a ball boy from the age of 8 to 17.
The case of Genie McMeans, a 21 year old Black motorist who was shoot in the back in broad daylight by a Florida Highway patrol officer on Interstate 10 a week after he graduated from college in 2004.
In January 2006, Crump relentlessly pursued justice on behalf of the parents of Martin Lee Anderson, the 14 year- old boy who died the day after he was restrained, beaten and suffocated at the Panama City, Bay County juvenile boot camp. The camp’s security cameras captured the incident on videotape. The case was featured on television shows like NBC’s Today Show, ABC’s 20/20 and CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360. “The Boot Camp Case” was resolved for the highest amount ever paid by the State for an individual wrongful death in Florida.
In December 2009, he served as lead attorney of a class of plaintiffs who were fatally and critically injured when the Berkman Plaza Parking Garage collapsed in Jacksonville, Florida.
Also in 2009, he was co-counsel of a class-action case on behalf of African-American women who sued the St. Joe Company for selling them wetland in Port St. Joe, Florida, which cause their houses to fall apart as they sank into the ground allowing snakes, lizards, and frogs to come though the walls as water pipes cracked. The settlement involved all of the Plaintiffs being able to purchase new homes.
In 2010, Crump achieved a very critical victory as lead attorney on what has been characterized as a landmark voter’s rights case of this millennium when nine African-American women were arrested with guns drawn for voter fraud in Madison, Florida.
In 2012, Crump received worldwide acclaim leading the fight for justice as the lead attorney for the family of Trayvon Martin, who was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida while walking home with a bag of Skittles and a can of Iced Tea.
In 2013, Crump helped focus national attention on Kendrick Johnson, a 17 year old teenager found dead a rolled up wrestling mat in a Valdosta, Georgia high school gym under suspicious circumstances. Using his legal prowess, Crump was able to get the US Attorney’s office to launch a federal investigation after the local sheriff had closed the case.
