even at my undergrad (alabama a&m) they be paying professors like a few thousand dollars per course and then have the nerve to have folks checks be late or short or both!

She says adjuncts here get about $8 an hour. A tall gangly man approached her, pecked at the calculator on his smartphone, and said Maisto's figures were wrong. That was Rudy Stralka, a well-regarded, full-time, tenured business professor at Cuyahoga. He says adjuncts make $22 to $23 an hour, and if you do the math, adjuncts are paid fairly — $160 per class in Maisto's case.

Maisto said she teaches one class that meets for three hours a week; Stralka said that's $26 an hour.

it was a bullshit math class or something
like not even algebra level
most entry level instructors at HBCU are immigrants (african/indian) that take the gig just to get a rep

i graduated in 2001 and their checks were often late and short THEN so they were threatening walkouts
even to this day, same shit, instructors having problems with getting paid
im mainly talking about the math/engineering/comp sci courses as that's what course i take and am interested in

when i was in grad school i made a HAIR less than a starting associate prof/lecturer so i wondered why it was a big deal for me to make what i made
(it wasn't really a lot but just the IDEA that a regular employee could make as much as a instructor had the dept in an uproar)
this was at an ivy league school btw

JuCo = Junior College
Junior Colleges where they pay $12 a unit or $36 for a English 101 class
maybe have 25 students in the class
so the state collects $900 in tuition for that class
of course the school is subsidized by tax payer funds but damn

you seem to be comparing this JuCo tuition to a proper 4year school where you can pay $4,000 for one graduate course (as i did in school, but i think it is up to $6,000 per class now)

in England and Austria you typically finish "high school" at 16
then you have the option of doing more school for another two years
this would be equivalent to JuCo here in the states

but in these two years you learn a trade or specific skillset of some sort

i think kids should spend less time learning about shakespeare and more time about how to keep these spheres from shaking

One of the counties are looking into making the last 2 years of High School college credits equivalent so students graduate with 30 credits banked already.

Thats the kind of educational reform that makes a real difference.

There was a highschool not too far from the one I went to that had a technical program. You started in 11th grade and could do electrical, automotive, cosmetology, hvac, IT, culinary arts,etc
