"Who can tell me stuff about Portland?"

I'm going there at the end of the month for work
but I arrive about a day and a half before then

What's an accessible, fun part of town to stay in? Something near good food/bars and stuff. I need to find a place to stay for one night before my hotel in the city center kicks in so I'm either going to air bnb or do some cutesy hotel stuff cause I know y'all got that.

I'm trying to see if I can spin while I'm out there too but I'm working other channels on that end. However I'm still down to check out any great spots.

Once for work, once for vacation. I stayed downtown both times.

HIGHLY recommend Mothers for brunch.

Voodoo Donuts is kind of a must, as is Sizzle Pie pizza. Both have multiple locations.

Want a KILLER burger? Doug Fir Lounge at the Jupiter Hotel. Really good stuff. Also good, cheap drinks there too.

Pok Pok is insanely good, but also the wait is super long - and really what you're looking to eat here is the wings, which you can order at the bar across the street.

Salt & Straw Ice Cream. A MUST.

Tasty & Alder - really good food.

If you're gonna have access to a car, the weather is good, and you're up for it - Wahclella Falls is a must do. Like a 3-5 mile round trip hike with an amazing waterfall.

Don't want to threadjack, but I'm heading out there in April with my wife and daughter (15 yo).

Looking for some good hangout stuff, museums, etc.

We are outdoorsy, so good hikes are of interest. We will have a car.

We are looking at driving down to see the redwoods. Anybody have any recommendations?

the Rose Garden has tons of flowers and is relatively downtown

from Canon Beach, you can drive south on 101 and see the trees and the ocean.

i like it better than any place in nyc, except maybe ample hills. compares with birite in sf.
i know you like beer, if you like rogue its worth going to a rogue ale house to sample everything.
i kinda think pine state is over hyped.
nong's khao is also overhyped.
east side voodoo is bigger and emptier.
also bought a phone, sneakers and other goods there cause of sales tax.

I dunno if it's expensive but it has a nice bar/lounge even if you're not staying there & is in a neighbourhood that had lots to see/do as far as I can recall, including Union Jacks strip club which i was pretty impressed with although i'm no strip club connoisseur.

i think Hawthorne was the street with tons of extremely cheap vintage/thrift stores.

i def agree on Powell's book store. Also there's food trucks galore for cheap eats...there's a particular square in the city centre with tons of them, but I don't remember what it's called but it's not far from Powell's.

also one of the most walkable, bike-friendly places i've ever been.

it is a hipster paradise, so basically i was at home.

i was kind of stone the whole two weeks i was there so i don't know any places off hand. i just use yelp when i'm visiting cities.

Where are you staying?

2nd Ave Records is great, downtown.
Mississippi Records is in N PDX.
Everyday Music is on NW 23rd and is in a neighborhood with lots of other stuff

Check out Stumptown coffee.

People have listed some great eats. To add to those... McMeniamins (several) has okay food, but great beer (try a ruby, then a terminator, then a rubinator). Hawthorne, Alberta, Mississippi, and NW 23rd and the whole pearl neighborhoods are good for walking, drinking and checking out random stuff.

Eastside Voodoo Donuts... Don't waste your time downtown.

Thai food... Pok pok I'd great but the wait is stupid. Thai Ginger is great and no wait.

Pizza... Sizzle pie is great as noted above. But... Oasis Pizza on W Burnside is great slices, Ken's Artisan is great, my favorite sit down and eat a pie place is Amalfi's on NE Fremont. Portland is surprisingly a great pizza city.

Rogue Brewery. Do it. You won't regret it. Sample everything. Hopworks, ditto. Mcmenimans as already stated. Bridgeport is good too. Pro tip... McMenimans and Bridgeport are both on Hawthorne.

Shopping down town is great.

If you want a Adidas employee pass let me know. It expires 1/31 though. 50% off retail only can get in with a pass. Nike passes are hard as hell to get.

The Jupiter is a good spot. Just FYI, it maybe be loud. I had my bachlor party there, it's a party hotel, but shouldn't be too bad this time of year.

Union Jacks is right there. That's PDX strip clubs in a not shell. Sizzle pie is right there, Fire On The Mountain wings is up the street (every time I'm home I hit it up, they are also a brew pup and have their own micros).

Get a week long trimet pass and catch tehbtrain and bus everywhere, cabs are cheap, no Uber. Its easy to get wrapped up in down town, especially the pearl, but checking out the Alberta street neoghborhood, Mississippi District, Hawthorne street and NW 23rd sum up Portland much better.

Staying down town catch happy hour at Portland City Grill. Its at the top of one of the largest buildings in PDX.

Anymore ?'s let me know. I'll see if I can grab a Adidas pass for Feb.
