"Great (white) directors who regularly feature PoC in major roles"

Tarantino might be the only one. Spielberg gets a pass for making two "black" films.

Ted's uncle.

I once asked Jonathan Demme about his casting choices vis a vis race and he looked at me and kinda blinked like the answer should be obvious and said he casts films to reflect the world he actually sees, which is diverse and beautiful. His crews tend to be fairly diverse as well. He seems like a genuinely good dude.

Ever since I became aware of him circa LOST, I believe he's even gone on record stating it's vital and important to feature diverse casts. Examples include the recent Star Trek and upcoming Star Wars film reboots. His TV examples (directing/producing) include LOST, Undercovers (w/two PoC leads, Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw), Revolution, Person of Interest, and Almost Human.

EDIT: Though to be true to the OP, I suppose it also depends on whether one considers Abrams a "great" director.

Star Trek is automatically going to be diverse. To a lesser extent, so is Star Wars.

Joe Morton is/was a frequent collaborator, and he's never been shy about doing stories that centered around African Americans or Latinos/Central Americans.
