"Preacher's Sermon Title is "Death To Gold Diggers." Hummm"

Dr Jamal Bryant breaks down the sermon subject "Death To Gold Diggers" and you have to hear the whole sermon in context to glean the wisdom and understanding. You have to hear how the preacher illuminates the subject of self-worth, self-esteem and personal value. The sermon has nothing to do with money.

it's a book by a buddhist monk. i think it's essential reading to understanding the nature of spirit in the modern world. one of those where you can pull a lot of great quotes from, but the whole thing has to be fully digested to appreciate and understand the complete truth of what's being revealed.

would you read that for me?
why or why not?

I listened to over a years worth of sermons and I have not witnessed your claim. Also, I've always found that his preaching has been rooted in the Gospel and the Scriptures.

But what I really find odd is that you didn't have anything good to say about the brothers message, but you found the energy to make a critique that is not even true. And that's my observation and opinion.

He opened with the scripture as the foundation, as he should have, and then spent the next 15-20min reading that fake post and response (well, I've always believed it to be fake) and talking his own shit.

I'm. not. a. fan. of. that.

I'm very familiar with Jamal.

Empowerment Temple is right around the corner from my church.

He's a nice guy, and I got love for him, but he doesn't move me.

He knows his audience (hell, just take a look at the audience shots from that video) and he does what he has to do to keep their attention.

But PERSONALLY, he digresses too much for *ME*.

It's a style choice, and I don't dig it.

Some sermons will will topical and textual too, thus not all sermons will be expository sermon. Sometimes preaches liked to blend and mix the deliveries up.

Hey, bro, writing a sermon is very hard work. Can you imagine having to write at least 52 a year while maintaining a relevant, interesting, true to the text, teaching and transformative message. Not to include Bible Studies, funerals, etc.

Come'on

I never said it was easy. I said that his style doesn't move me. Because he knows his audience, he tends to say provocative things in order to keep eyes, ears, and mouths wide open (i.e. "death to golddiggers" and "these hoes ain't loyal"). I get it.

Personally he loses me in his effort to stay "current" (and slightly controversial), as he tends to not strike enough of a balance for me.

One man's opinion, that all.

Multiple times.

It's no big deal, I just found it odd that you would throw that in there as if I've never listened to the man with an open mind before and am just evaluating him on the surface.

He's broadcast locally and on the Word network.

I've heard him several times by now.

I tossed it in there because at one point I had issues with a few Preachers - just like you. But I asked God to open my ears to hear more clearly and I was able to hear the message like never before. And a few of them became my favorites. Dr. Bryant was one of them.

It took sincere prayer on my part, because I did want to miss a word of God's message, just because i was allowing the my human preferences to get in the way of His revelation.

But again, that's just me. You do what works for you. I just found it odd that you had to run up in her with the negative vibe when you already knew that you don't care for the mans preaching.

But you chose to run up in here talking about what's wrong with his preaching when you already had a biased opinion - negative from the jump. So, why even post if you already were on the "NO GO" from the beginning and there was nothing that's going to change your position? A rhetorical question BTW.

It's all good bro. Next time I make a Dr. Jamal Bryant post you don't even have to respond because we already know what it is.

of a person.

And it's not possible for a person with an opinion to acknowledge an exception to that opinion. Got it.

And my response had nothing to do with the fact that this example actually proved my opinion considering he spent nearly 20min away from the scripture he started with.

This is rhetorical BTW.

Dude, is there a biblical text time limit that one has to adhere too when speaking on a topical sermon? Do you have the rule book for preaching because we'd all like to know? I know plenty of preachers that'll love to know this rule.

Where dem rules at son?

You're asserting that I shouldn't bother with this post because I already have an opinion of Jamal, as if that opinion would prevent me from acknowledging whether or not the same holds true in this case.

In terms of timing, it's a matter of personal preference, which I have stated from the beginning.

I'm not interested in 20min of Jamal's relationship commentary. Walk through the Word of God.

In response to Reply # 43

You acting like the man is Joel Osteen and not even opening the Bible. If that was the case I'd be 100% in your corner. But come'on yo. Yes, Dr. Bryant is and can be sensational with style, but that's his style and it speaks to the hearts of those who can hear the word through him.

The mans whole sermon is Biblically based in sound theology and he's preaching the Word. You're just in a tizzy because he's not jumping to your expectations of time and duration. There are different sermon techniques and preaching styles that can be blended and he did that with the vid that I posted.

But hey, in the end all that matters is that lives are being saved, people are coming to Christ because of the preached word, and people are being edified.

Everybody ain't for everyone - by choice.

That may be sound doctrine to you but I'm not impressed.

Glad you're happy though.

Luckily I'm exposed to good preaching week after week, so I know the difference.

I expect you to as well.

I have an ear to hear what God is saying through the imperfect vessels that he uses. So, I'm always hearing good preaching when it's rooted in the word of God, even when other's think it's bad, yet they can't and would't be able to do any better.

If you want to call it being impressed then ok. I like how he did something. I like how he artfully constructed the sermon. If that's what you call being impressed then cool - I was impressed. But I know how hard it is to do something that people make look so easy.

seriously just think about that for a second. why does gods word need to be sensationalized?

the answer is to be able to sell god's message.

that's the equivalent of jesus seeing the money changers, pulling out a chair and pulpiting about god with a little cup for donations, except for his disciples who were required to drop a cut of whatever they got in their robes into his cup.

Preacher's are not sensationalizing God's word, but rather the content if their illustrations and application points. Have you read the Bible? Much of it is already sensational.

Nevertheless, as I stated earlier, preaching is a n art form and it's also a gift. Anyone can read or speak, but preaching draws from within the vessel and pours out all that has been deposited. And the art is seen in the preparation, the delivery, the execution and the closing. With that said, sensational nuggets are added to the meal to anchor points and lessons within the hearing of the listener.

He's really into the click bait of it all.

You see he has done this before when he quoted "these hoes ain't loyal" in his sermon and a few others. He enjoyed that attention.

I can wholeheartedly see a pastor trying to relate his sermon to his flock but, uhhhh yeah. nah.

This response is not par for the course of GD.
It's par for the course of the man that is JHB.

I know the pastor is just the vessel by which God's word flows but, he's a very flawed man who I wouldn't receive the word from.
I would not seek spiritual advisement from him.

I've been to his church, have heard his sermons... the whole 9.
He's just not my brand of spiritual leader.

He always seems to be seeking something outside of what God is blessing him with.

And that's my opinion as you have yours.

Always huh? Outside of God's blessing huh? Like what? What can you provide to support that "Always" statement and then tell us what is God's blessing for him? I sure other's would love to hear this inside information that you have.

And again, I'm dead serious. No Snark. I love when people can tell me exactly what God is trying to bless me with. I'm Sure Dr. Bryant would like to know too. Especially since he's "always" seeing something else.

People use illustrations, folk tales, parables, sayings, etc. that are not real all the time in order to make a moral or ethical point.

But if that's all you got out of the whole thing, then you missed the point.

Man, let me tell you this. I am very critical of myself and because of that I do take time to look at some of the gaffs or mistakes that I've made. With that said, I try to learn, I pray for guidance, and I seek wise counsel too.

As for my expectations of the post; yeah I expected the old Jesus haters to run up in here. But I sometimes expect for people to TRY and learn something different and to TRY to pause for a second to be open minded without the snark.

Am I an apologist for Christianity - YUP I sure am. But I also try to listen to sound reason. But I will defend against plain old Wrong thinking or information.
