"random rambles: gettin' put out of a cab..."

..for carryin' alcohol.

what part of the game is this???

the crazy part is that i told the driver that i needed to make a stop when he first arrived, and he never made mention of any stipulation that might cause an issue. i was in & out of the store in less than 2 minutes. as soon as he heard the bottles clink, he was aggravated...

driver: waitaminute! are you carrying alcohol?
me: yeah, i told you i wanted to make a quick stop, you said it was cool.
driver: no, no, no. i cannot take you. it is against my religion.
me: wtf? why didn't you say that BEFORE i went into the store?
driver: no, i am sorry. i cannot take you.

sure, i could've lied, but i respect his beliefs. i didn't have a problem catchin' another cab, but it would've been nice to know that shit ahead of time.

the bottles were concealed in a bag so he had plausable deniability. it coulda been juice or soda or water.

and he really shoulda said before you hopped out that you'd be walking if you came back with likka...

For him to have such a strong reaction

Muslims are not supposed to sell or imbibe alcohol but just transporting a mother fucker who is carrying alcohol?

Sounds like bullshit.

apparently there are people that view transporting liquor in the same regard as imbibing.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

you know its terrible when people find it strange to see people actually makin' an effort to take care of their neighborhood. i was outside sweepin' up the block (random debri/litter/etc.) and this woman approaches me...

random woman: hello
me: hi, how goes it?
rw: fine, and you? umm, i've seen you out here before, do you work for the city?
me: no, i'm just tryin' to do my part.
rw: well, that's nice, but why?
me: because i live here.
rw: i guess...

Old lady a few doors down started cussing at us like it was our job to keep trash off the sidewalk

Well it was the Mexican super's job, maybe. But not mine.

And you were winning when you were asking for an explanation about the facts. And you expected and explanation regarding his reasoning. and guess what? He obliged your with a rational explanation.

If he has just said get out and ignored your replies then you would have felt really pissed.

i asked him if it was ok to make a quick stop at a store before my final destination. he was nice enough to oblige. the only surprise was that he never made mention of any objections until he realized i purchased alcohol. once he made his statement regarding observing his beliefs, i simply stated that it would've been nice to know that ahead of time.

>If he has just said get out and ignored your replies then you

wrong again. if you bothered to actually read the OP, you'd realize that i hold no issue with anything he did/said, only that it would've been nice to have prior notice.

don't mind me, though. g'head & keep tryin' to make this about you.

See all of this conversation that you had. This is something you MOD's don't like to do, because the rules say no explanations are needed.

But you sure wanted an explanation. WTF? Why, ...?

do you see the difference there? the board policies are clearly stated and posted for everyone that visits this site. if his policy was posted in the cab, i would've never asked him to stop and certainly would've respected his religious observation without issue.

He needs to tell every.fare. that he cannot transport alcohol as soon as they get into his cab.

Had he not heard the clink of the glasses, he still would have been guilty of transporting alcohol.

Absolutely nothing wrong with his beliefs; I kinda dig him sticking to his them. It would have just been easier for everyone had it be explicitly stated somewhere/somehow.

He's also lucky you're not the kind to elevate an issue. I imagine not everyone would be as understanding.

again, i have no issue with his observation, it just would've been nice to know that ahead of time. a placard with driver/passenger standards would greatly improve these situations.

I never have a problem getting a regular taxi to Brooklyn anymore.
Every taxi driver I've spoken to has a problem with Uber digging in their pockets, even in other cities.

Anyway,
The 2nd to worst time I got put out of a cab was with a very visibly pregnant woman, and it was raining. Cabbie refused to take us to Brooklyn after driving a block. I snitched and called 311 on him...didn't go to the hearing though.

..it was a yellow cab.

i told him my destination, but asked if we could make a quick stop. about 5 minutes later, i had him pull over at a bodega and made the quick purchase.

again, he was apologetic and i respect his beliefs. it just would've been nice to know that ahead of time.

..so i'm at the local grocery store.

i pull up to the checkout line and proceed to place my items on the conveyor. as usual, i said hello to the cashier, but didn't realize she was on a cell phone call (ear piece)...

me: hi, how goes it?
cashier: hold on, some nigga in line tryin' to holla
me: wait, what?
cashier: what? why you lookin' so surprised? you're the one tryin' to talk to me.
me: umm... i just said hello, y'know, a greeting?
cashier: whatever

*cue breaking 4th wall*

*and why is it cool for people to talk on their cell phones while dealing with customers on the floor?

i understand that some jobs are more lenient than others, but that seems a bit unprofessional to me.

..'cause its a newly renovated/re-opened store, and they've made every effort to run a top notch professional business.

then i realized that she wasn't the only cashier i've seen talking on their cell phone while dealin' with customers. that let's me know that management is just as much at fault for even allowin' it.

plus, i hate seein' people lose good jobs over stupid shit.

43. "IS THIS A REASON TO CHARGE ME DOUBLE FARE?"
In response to Reply # 0
Wed Dec-31-14 03:01 PM by Starks dunked on Bul

I had a big box I had to unload to the cab, but the place I was located, cabs couldn't see me. So I had to walk across the street to flag a cab down. These cabs have flat fares.

He picks me up on the right side of the street, I tell him my box is across the street, so I hop in and he makes a u-turn (so he drove like less than half a block, I'm not sure but it was a very short distance). And then I proceeded to get the box on the sidewalk and bring it in the cab and he drives me to my destination. I pay the fare and proceed to bounce and he stops me and says it's double fare cuz he made 2 stops.

Anyway, we get into this big argument and I refused to pay. I said call the cops or whatever. After 5 minutes of arguing, he lets me go. I was furious.

Was I wrong?

..just to have him make a u-turn?

granted, i don't think this scenario counts as a "stop" that would require surcharge or double fare.

*also, you mentioned paying the fare, but didn't say anything about a tip: did you tip him well for the service?

It was 5 bucks for the cab fare.

In hindsight, I guess I could've led him to the box instead of hopping in.

..you tip based on the convenience/services rendered, not the distance.

you called for a cab. you asked him to assist you with loading the box (even if he didn't move the box, he made that u-turn for your convenience). he delivered you to your final destination.

next time, tip the man (even if its just $1).

In response to Reply # 43

Yep, I've had the cops called over a fare. Sometimes they got me money, other times they were just annoyed with me. It wasn't too common, but common enough among my fellow drivers.

The truth about your situation really lies in your city or county ordinances though, because cab fares are regulated, and then double check the policies for the company he drove for unless he actually owned his cab. Drivers who drive for companies (I.E, Yellow Cab) are generally independent contractors, but they're still subject to regulations and company policies if they drive for another company.

In response to Reply # 56

The 2nd door is never locked but the cleaning lady locked it by accident and no one had the key. Building management couldn't find the key so one of the porters was trying to pick the lock. It was me and 4 coworkers, One was Asian and the other 2 were white and the last was a Spanish girl.

In any event the white porter is struggling to pick it and without looking up he's like "I can't get it, can you give me a hand". The 2 white dudes looked at me, even though they were standing closer to the door bc they were the only 2 feening to get in.

I wasn't sure if the white guys looked at me bc i was black so I know how to pick a lock or bc they're attys and i'm an assistant so i'm the 'help'.

In any event I just gave them a foh look and got breakfast.

It was usually for acting up, threatening me, shit like that.

One dude had a rep for getting naked and jerking off. A few people complained about dude but nobody ever kicked him out. I picked a guy up who turned out to be my boy's girlfriend's pops, and he turned out to be the masturbation bandit. So told him to get the fuck out, he got loud, I grabbed my Sobe bottle and threatened to break it on his head, and he got out. Dude was still pulling his pants up when I drove off.

Another dude wanted to go to the casino, which was usually a $20+ run from where I picked up him and his wife/girl. So we get to the road that leads to the Casino and we're on the Re. It's a bit of a walk either way, and while it's not necessarily a terrible place to be, it's not really a place anyone wants to be.

I don't recall what the exact fare was at this point but it was definitely over 20. Dude was like "Cool, I'm gonna give you 15 and we'll call it even," and I gave the obvious answer: Nah, you're going to pay what the meter says. The long and short of it is, I put him and his woman out on that dark ass road.

Another time, our lead dispatcher/office managers son- who I was somewhat cool with BUT was becoming increasingly annoyed with since he'd often say he didn't have to pay since his mom was the dispatcher and would always say was joking and he'd get me next time. Only, next time rarely came. He called to go to the casino, from pretty far out, and promised to pay when I reminded him he still owed me money from prior fares. He didn't pay BUT said he'd get me back on the pickup run, plus what he owed. I'm thinking... no way he stiffs me twice, not on a run like this. Well, the dickhead DID, and the total bill for the run was $58.

His girl called for a pickup later in the night, wanting to go to the store. Long story short, I decided to get my revenge and we fucked in the cab before we went to my apartment and fucked some more. Word was he was pissed and "looking for me" after that, buuuuuut considering he knew where I worked, what cab I drove, my driver number, where I lived, etc... and never hit me up.

Buying alcohol though?

Nah. No reason to kick anyone out for that and dude should have told you up front.
