Of all the incriminating Sony emails leaked in the hack, the one Rush Limbaugh took the most issue with? The fact that executives suggested Idris Elba as the next James Bond.
During his show this week, Limbaugh brought up the exchange and immediately rejected the idea because the Luther star is black. "James Bond was invented, created by Ian Fleming, a former spy, MI6, and James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish, period. That is who James Bond is," the host said. "But now Sony is suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton rather than a white from Scotland. But that's not who James Bond is, and I know it's racist to probably even point this out."

Yet he continued, "We had 50 years of white Bonds because Bond is white. Bond was never black. Ian Fleming never created a black Brit to play James Bond. The character was always white. He was always Scottish. He always drank vodka shaken not stirred and all that."

I mean I'm for a Black Bond a little bit since the series didn't have any problems using different actors for the character, but I'd flip my shit if they remade Shaft with Tom Hardy or out of nowhere, Batman was suddenly black.
I get it, but not from racist ass Rush. Fuck that.

Just like I wouldn't have minded if Sony actually chose Donald Glover for Spiderman over Andrew Garfield. It's not really a race thing for me but rather the actor is actually a great fit for the character. Same thing with ScarJo in Ghost in the Shell. She can pull that type of character off well.
Having said that, I want to more races get top billing in movies across all genres more. At some point, media really should get past that token level of acceptance that minorities still seem to get. ---------------------------------------
One is addressing an imbalance. The other one is making the imbalance worse. Championing the positive one and hating the negative one doesn't make anybody a hypocrite.

I liked Idris in Thor, but I don't really go for adding black folks into established white character roles just to do it. I mean it's Norse mythology for one and two Marvel's Baldur has always been "white". Same for Duncan Clark as the Kingpin-- I wasn't a fan.
I know I'd have a problem with a white dude playing Anubis not because they shouldn't but because we aren't allowing folks to see the culture of others through their own eyes. Scar Jo as Kusanagi is lame although I'm sure even the Japanese will eat that up, but it's messed up at the same time.
Idris works as Bond because the character has always been somewhat non descript and we've had years of established white Bonds as well.

The Scottish heritage thing didn't come along until Sean Connery. After Connery played Bond in the movies and made the character more popular, the author wrote in Bond's "Scottish" heritage to fit in with the Connery portrayal.
By this time there were already 11 Bond novels written. None of which mentioned Scottish heritage. ______________________________________________________________________________
