"why *cant* barry pardon assata?"

not right now altho that would be awesome

but like his last day in office? walking out the door?

because YT will be mad? what else is new

because it might torpedo whoever is running after him? if its hillary she will tack right & say how she wouldnt have done it & offset whatever she lost from progressicves w/ conservatives

if its liz warren she'll be like GOOD & pick up the few remaining bomb throwing lefties she doesnt have (no way she wins btw much as i want her to run)

so whats the down side?

please miss me w/ the 'WHITEY AINT FIXIN TO HAVE THAT! NO SUH!' shuck & jive hanky head response i dont care

does it really matter?

At this point...
Assuming by pardon you also mean allowing her reentry back into the US.

I wonder if she'd even come back to the US?

>I wonder if she'd even come back to the US?

She has said on numerous occasions that Cuba is her home and she is happy and has no desire to ever step foot on US soil again. The Castro family is VERY protective of her. Assata will be fine with or without a pardon.

or something like that

it kinda implicates his brother as the gunman

also, see the reply below

the main witness was a drug addict prostitute

that ended up dead not long after the trial

another implication that she was known to do favors for the police

to avoid being arrested

(a little foggy on all the details, but I think other witnesses turned up dead too)

I read his book and other stuff surrounding his case while I lived in Philly.
At first I used to be all FREE MUMIA
but after reading all this info (his included)
I'm left inconclusive.
a big fat I DONT KNOW
both sides make very compelling cases

i dont know everything that was presented in court so can't say what the jury saw/heard

in Philly i used to be around a buncha old heads and they were like "that nigga did it!"

so i dunno

It's about his complete lack of a fair trial, and how far the police and city went to put him behind bars. A total mockery of the justice system.

His guilt or lack there of is secondary.

Everyone deserves a free-trial, he did not receive one.

we dont know what she did. i have no reason whatsoever to take the word of law enforcement in regards to her case as during this time LEO on a federal level on down was literally waging war on people who identified like her, killing people left and right to break what they felt was an internal threat to the stability of the united states.

the system was corrupt then, she would not have gotten a fair trial & she shouldnt have been imprisoned ANYWAY as a political prisoner

now why should she be pardoned?

1) because we want her to be.
2) we will prolly never get another shot, if barry dont do it what POTUS would?
3) LEO obviously wants her brought back in chains to face "justice"
4) she is a shining example of our greatest generation and for her to live her life in her late retirement yrs behind bars is a travesty.

thats why, from my pov. why do you think she should not be?

i mean i know half the time you are trolling but i am starting to think your unfairness with obeezy is reaching a head. he's a politician, not a magician. he's made the subtle moves that have been in play (for the most part, not all of them) and some slightly bolder ones.

you want somebody to do all this type of bullshit, you better start reanimating some corpses and getting them elected. zombie eldridge cleaver on the green party ticket in 2016?

I was watching a documentary on her not too long ago

and she was interviewed in the doc, so I'm guessing it had her consent

but I didn't understand why her case is received with so much sympathy

from what I remember

she ended up having a relationship with an inmate

and somehow the inmate's younger brother comes to possess guns registered to Angela...

...maybe I'm missing something that somebody could expound upon...

but I was waiting for the AHA moment, and I didn't see it.

I get that she was found not guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, etc...

but it did feel to me that there was some sort of criminal charge for at least supplying the guns

no?

That poisons the whole case. You have to understand that it really was war back then. Not having lived through it does not mean it did not happen.

The trooper that claims he saw her pulled a gun out of her pocketbook to shot at him, completely recanted his story. There was no gun powder residue on Assata's hands nor finger prints on the gun found at the scene.
That trooper also never bothered to report another trooper that arrived at the scene at the time of the stop. That trooper was subsequently killed during the shoot out,yet dude never even reported that there was a second trooper on the scene, let alone that he was shot and dead until an hour after he arrived at the police station. So this man left a dead trooper on the side of the road for an hour and never called for back up or an ambulance. They found this trooper just laying in the road.

At the time the government was trying to set up black liberation groups, black panthers and even the SNCC to jail them, even in the early 70's. They were out to get them, no bones about it and trumped up a lot of charges against these types.
If you look at her record you'll see they were trying to get her for everything under the sun for 4 years... for everything from multiple bank robbery to kidnappings. Assata beat them all. Now if you think the courts are biased against black folks now, imagine how much ridiculous the charges against Assata must of been in the 1970's where they couldn't convict a black woman of multiple bank robberies etc several times?!?!

I think it's likely that they were set up and it's likely that the trooper that died was killed by his fellow trooper during the shoot out with Assata's associates.

As far as her breaking out of jail... this woman is a damn super hero, and if she didn't do it I don't blame her for breaking out.

All that said, she's got State charges so Obama can't do a damn thing for her.

entire climate of corruption, brutality, murder and intimidation among the police toward black ppl that everyone now accepts was part of what ppl of color had to deal with "back then" (even when they refuse to admit it still exists today)

After all thr BS she as an individual had already been put through by them (well documented), had she killed a cop who was trying to run her down, it still could be thought reasonable pardon her 40-odd years later.

Escaping prison? It wasn't a proper prison and illegal forms of cruel and unusual punishment were taking place. Plenty of testimony available from that era to back it up.

Plus, if they can find a ridiculous way put her at the top of the most wanted terrorist list in 2014 (totally rendering that list a joke), the rules are loose enough that they can find a way to pardon her

if possible pardon her for the federal charge

As far as the murder charge is concerned, I said considering the testimony of the neurologists who testified in court that her hands were up when she was shot and that none of her fingerprints were found on ANY of the weapons should be enough for her to get a new trial

>so he can't order a new trial in the murder case.

the OP asks why the prez can't pardon Assata. i explained - it's b/c her convictions were in state court and the prez can't pardon ppl convicted in state court for violations of state law.

you suggested a pardon on the fed charges (assumedly by Obama) and the granting of a new trial in the state case but didn't indicate who would grant that new trial. considering the OP asks about Obama and my reply to which you replied was also about Obama it stood to reason that you suggested Obama grant the new trial on state charges. to which i responded that's not possible.

if Assata is going to get a new trial on the state charges that order would have to come from a NJ appellate court and not the president. w/o regard for who or what you meant, that's the deal. if she's gonna get a new trial in a state case that order will need to come from a state court and not the fedz.

fuck you.

If someone gets killed while you're committing another felony (say burglary or assault), everyone who was involved in the commission of the original felony can be charged with murder.

I hope I said that in a way that made sense.

It has to be a group effort, so I'll let other people handle the explanation of why the president could not pardon her even if he felt like doing a solid for someone on the FBI's most wanted terrorist list that has a $1M bounty on her head for killing a police officer.

I sympathize with her in many ways but this is the risk you take being a revolutionary.

So insanely centrist that it makes the crying about him being an extremist even unbearably obnoxious and clearly racial.

The fact that Assata still gets treated like a threat and a terrorist is one of the most glaring examples that the system is corrupt and racism is alive and well which allows them to publically get away with it
