i could go without but since I havent worn or owned a hat in over 13 years (had locks for a long time) I'm thinking about trying something.

it works for me cuz other than wearing this when it's freezing outside, you'll NEVER see me wear a hat. i got a round head and hats feel weird on it.

i rock the lumberjack to avoid freezing to death...

... There's a little gold in the knit.

I also have a velvet 1940s black hat with tiny rhinestones and pearls that I wear more than my other vintage hats. It's not for warmth per se or as showy as it sounds. It's kinda like a little french girl beret vs artist man beret.

And then I have a fair isle, fleece lined number with ear flaps for when it's like -20 outside and idgaf. I really wish I could find a cute one that was fleece lined. There's no comparison warmth wise to this one.
