Just include the tip in the final price. Restaurant staff are under the impression that we owe them something.

Cut out tipping and the customer knows exactly how much he is going to be paying when he places an order. And more importantly, the employee knows exactly how much they will be paid at the end of the day.

Waiters/Waitress wages should not fluctuate based off the whims of their customers

what is wrong with rewarding people for better service and punishing them for doing a halfassed job? maybe customers should be more responsible, but the system works when they are.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

How many times have you heard cheap idiots say, "I asked for sprite, not 7-Up...she's not getting a tip." Or blaming the waitress when it's clearly the chef's fault. Or not realizing that there's only 1-2 servers when it's 200 people in there, and realizing they're trying to pay attention to each group?

I've had bad service a few times, and made it a point to not tip...hell, once, I gave em a ripped dollar bill just to re-enforce how horrid it was. But more often than not, I hear folks trying their hardest to be cheap...especially young folks and college kids.

If you pay your employees well and treat them well, they will perform better in their work.

Look at Chickfila. No tipping is required to get Chickfila employees to be extra polite and provide great service. Compare them to other fast food restaurants and you'll see the main difference is in wages. Chickfila pays their workers substantially more than McDonald's, Taco Bell, etc

High end retail stores provide exceptional service without the expectation of tips. How do you think they pull it off?

Almost no other industry in our economy requires the customer to evaluate the service they received afterwards and decide how much to pay the employees. But still there exists differences in the quality of service provided by employees in the businesses. How could this be?

http://60degreesmastercrafted.com/dinner-menu

look at that menu

there is a $200 hamburger...

60° Bistro Burger 200.00

And a normal burger...

Korean Burger 22.00

to bring the Bistro burger to my table the waitress gets $40 (that's 20%)
$40 to walk a fucking hamburger to my table!!!

But the same "regular" burger, the waiter only gets $4 (still 20%)
you see how dumb this shit is?

If me and my two potnas want to get drunk and as high as we were last night
and before we hit v-live we stop by this place to get each get $200 burgers and some cold ones
we have a $700 bill between the 3 of us
waitress going to be looking for a $140 tip
but she only brought us three hamburgers and maybe 3 rounds of beers
and she wants $140!!!!

i throw a chick six bucks and she let me stick my fingers in her pussy

why would i give a chick twelve dollars to go fetch me a plate of food?

talk about return on investment

do yall tip yalls weedman?
he providing a service ESPECIALLY if yall getting that good delivery.

and this is NOT ABOUT ANYONE BEING CHEAP
anyone that has chilled with me in real life know i'm the exact opposite
but this fucking tipping shit is just dumb and chaps my hide
it feels like the servers are begging and expecting some shit just because
fuck that!
get on a salary and let's end all this step-and-fetch-it shit

have the restaurant owner add 10% to all food costs and put all employees on decent salaries
but im tired of OKP putting this on the backs of "cheap people" who "dont deserve" or "cant afford" to eat out

bitch please
go back to burning CDs in your momma's basement and making your wackass youtube videos of that EP you have sold zero copies of

tipping is just dumb
i bet it's some shit some leftist liberal wacko came up with

If waitstaff had fair wages in the first place this whole conversation wouldnt be such a button pusher. Paying someone $4 an hour is kind of cray. But they you have to think of small juke joint type bars/lounges that cant pay someone $10/hr. But agreed, there has to be a better way.

I'm not sure where you could be that you have a waiter/ress

and your bill only be $9

if so, it would be proper to tip on the total before comp

from my experience

when I would hook people up

they would actually tip me the difference

just sayin'

say he ordered a drink = $9

and whatever else he had to eat got comped

he could still tip the waiter/ress on whatever his bill was before the comp

and as the bartender, I would get tipped from the server based on the alcohol sales

i.e., if the entire bill was comped, I would have actually lost money

I'm not saying that's what happened

but it's an example of why an entire bill wouldn't be comped

to reiterate

usually, when something is comped on a bill out of good will

that usually translates to a larger tip for the server

if the entire bill was comped, tipping 0 would be foul

you follow

managers love to comp bills for celebrities

in the hopes that they become a returning customer

it gives their establishment profile

i.e. Who gets tipped? How much of the tip does this person/that person get? If such and such happens, who gets tipped? Who doesn't?

All of this exemplifies how stupid and unnecessary tipping is.
I as the customer have no business deciding how much a business's employees get paid. That's should just be a negotiation between the restaurant and the waiter.

I just rail against our inane tipping culture whenever possible. And the fact that we're speculating on the size of his bill to determine whether he paid enough is a perfect illustration of how stupid it is.

For the record, I tip well and hate every second of it.

Never in my life have I seen something as chicken shit as this.
You're at a "fine dining" establishment
or heck even my corner bar "Cheers"
then, a big tab comes and the manager says "nah, it's on the house...well everything except for those two Bud Lights you ordered which was $9"

that's dumb and would get an averse reaction from whomever you are trying to impress by comping their bill

yes, dude makes at least a few hundred thousand per year as long as he is on the roster (not practice squad)
so for you to "comp" everything on the bill except for $9 worth of whatever is dumb

yeah dude, you need more people

and don't take this personally but FUCK YOU and your waitstaff industry
if you people want more pay, then demand a SALARY
don't come grovelling to me to assist your hourly wage
if i go to Del Frisco's for a $60 steak, I'm not thinking I'm going to pay your lack of skills having ass $12 to drag the plate from the kitchen window maybe 80 feet to my table
that's dumb!
it takes you all of 30 seconds to walk my $60 steak over and you want $12 for that "service"?
so the fuck what you bring my another raimekin of butter for your nice hot soft bread with the crunchy crust
it's not like you're making my dining experience that much better by doing so

and why do you get $12 for delivering my $60 steak 80 feet
but the girl at Outback only gets $3 for delivering my $15 steak the same distance?
same amount of work
so you get paid four times more than she does for the same no brainer work?
i can train a 3rd grader to walk 80 feet with a plate without dropping it
so, again, do you get $12 for that?
if i'm on a double date with another couple and we all get $60 steaks
you carry a round platter with four $60 steaks on it so you get $48 to walk 80 feet with four steaks on a platter that takes you 30 seconds to do the task

are you fuckin shitting me???

per se charges $310 for the 9 course menu GRATUITY INCLUDED!!!
that's great
let thomas keller and his staff figure that shit out
and it is like a team of FOURTY people that assists during your dinner there

anyway, nobody dont give a fuck about the bartender "losing money" because my six lemon drops and two shiner bocks were comped
you handle that shit with the owner
you want me to tip you $3 to reach in a Yeti ice chest and pop the top off a fucking beer??!!?!!?!?

this country is filled with a bunch of slacker ass liberals who want to be paid for doing nothing!
a bunch of socialists, basically

oh, and the person that made $48 in 30 seconds delivering those four $60 steaks,
how, much of that $48 will go to the cook who stood over the 1,800 broiler cooking them guests steaks to perfection which is where the REAL artistry comes into play
and if you never cooked a perfect steak before dont say shit

Merry Christmas Okayplayer!

>I disagree about the no brainer work part,

How hard is it to scribble some shit on a notepad and run plates back and forth?

Table 37
party of two
drink order: glass Terlato noir her, Balvenie 12 neat him

****comes back for the apps****

share carpacio

****comes back for mains****

rib eye medium, spargus+mashed him
crab cake and house salad vinnegrete her

that's about a $150 meal right there
not including dinner drinks or dessert
so this waiter gonna get $30 for making one trip to the bar and two trips to the kitchen window?

my orders at mcdonalds and whataburger be more complex than this
only thing the server is doing is punching the shit in the computer
it is the steak cooker who is responsible for making sure my steak is medium and not well or rare
it is the sous chef who is responsible for making sure my wife's crab cakes have enough lump in them and aren't "fishy"

if a server gets my office party of 20 ppl on our lunch break celebrating someone's marriage and they are the only one serving us and our tab is $600, are they deserving of the $120 tip for bringing like 10 baskets of bread to our table and 15 appetizer plates and 20 entree plates in that 75 mins span?

$120 for 75 mins worth of work

there are lawyers who don't make that kind of money

If you talk to folks who've worked at high end restaurants, it's never easy to just walk in and start working there. For women, these places are even more into having "attractive" servers, even more so than at a Fridays, where they usually still have cute/good looking ones. And you have to be even more precise when dealing with folks who are paying $100+ for their meal vs the usually $12 at a sports bar...regardless of the amount of physical work done.

15. "How much did that dumb broad expect to be tipped?"
In response to Reply # 0

She must've assumed she'd get one of those $100 tips despite the bill being $9 because he's paid and loves to throw money around. Ungrateful broad. He went well over the 20% maximum for tipping yet she wanna trip. Makes me think of that one waitress at Golden Corral that griped about a $3 tip someone had left her. Yeah, she has to clean plates off of the table and refill sodas but she ain't taking any food orders down nor is she bringing the food to the customers. Most waiters and waitresses have to do what she does and more. The crap she's complaining for?

It's a he said/ she said. I'd need more facts. Interesting Old Girl didn't feature a pic of the bill. Interesting that he didn't immediately mention that it was a $9 bill.

Need more facts. Can't call it.
