He deserves it. The Vegas residencies are basically a training ground for being able to handle the Super Bowl stage ( not in terms of audience size, but the fast paced production, bangers only set list, etc. Now if only Adele had some knee slapperz in her catalog, she could be a contender.

Them Silk Sonic boys would be a good look too.

Bruno should be required to do it at least once every 5-ish years. And yeah, next time he’s gotta have Paak with him. Brother has hella jams without Bruno too.

He may be last of his kind.

But he deserves this resurgence as of late (though he never really went away).

He really lost me in the dance-pop phase, I haven't thoroughly checked in since Here I Stand which I know had its fans but those fans allowed RVR to happen, which didn't SUCK but felt like absolutely anybody could've made it and I haven't cared since.

Has he been, uh, ~moving mountains~ at all musically since then or do you just mean it's cool that he's managed to remain a huge draw long after his prime? 'Cause in that case I'd agree, his ability to remain relevant as a performer regardless of his status as a recording artist is extremely impressive.

Usher has been an incredible live performer for a LONG time. I remember wearing out the 8701 tour DVD back in the day.

He's got the hits and the star power to make this show huge. Also some huge collabs to bring guests out...

I wouldn't be surprised if JayZ worked out an additional deal for entertainers or himself (cause we know how he can be) to own a grand majority if not all royalties and future profits from their superbowl performances. In the age of online everything and youtube it may only work so much but if DVD's or the next personalized tangible digital software were to come out, it could make a killing.

1. Can U Get Wit It(I wasn’t playing, DeVante in his BAG)
2. U Don’t Have to Call (Neptunes in their BAG)
3. Nice & Slow
4. U Got It Bad
5. My Way (the version where he rapped a verse)

I’m sure he’ll do #2 and 5 - will he do any slow jams though? He’s gotta do “Nice & Slow” doesn’t he?

1. Confessions Part II (never not a banger)
2. U Don’t Have to Call (this was my going out song for like 5 years)
3. What Happened To U (this was a sleeper from a low key album but it's really one of my top 3 Usher songs)
4. Don't Waste My Time (I feel like this song sparked the Usher Resurgence, not a comeback because he didn't go anywhere. This made him, in my mind, an Elder Statesmen in R&B (along with the tiny desk and residency), the flip of the Jackson 5 beat is so dope.
5. Bad Girl (I could have 10 different songs at number 5 but I just love to see girls dance and sing along to this joint)

I could see us getting like 9 songs with 3 or 4 being snippet/medley style.

But how is he gonna do the Super Bowl WITHOUT hitting people with the 'they call me U S HER RA YM OND'? How Sway!?

Here's what he's gonna do at the SB if I had to guess:

U don't have to call (guaranteed)

OMG AND DJ's Got us falling in love again (cuz c'mon now..he's gotta put those dancers to work)

Yeah (How could he not? Its just a matter of if he gets Luda and Lil Jon. I'd LOVE it if they did a snippet of Lovers and Friends too but I won't be greedy)

Bad Girl (cuz that song is jamming, people love it, and they'd feel like 'he went deep' if they do it. To me, deep would be him doing a snippet of Seduction or something crazy like It Is What it Is, but I know this show isn't finna be killer album cut MJ tribute songs!)

Confessions Part 2 (Cuz c'mon. Even though I'll say here right now: the 'everything that I've been doing is aaaaall bad' version/Confessions Part 1 with the Stevie harmonica solo is probably my favorite Usher song of them all! He hit that R. Kelly hard piano/relationship drama song steez hard af and got it 110% right, which was lowkey mandatory for that time and that album. And he SAAAAAANG THAT SHIT. And that last 30 or so seconds after the harmonica solo? Shiiiiiid *Lil Wayne making a face and shaking his head.gif*)

I don't know what the ballad will be, but I'm betting on Nice And Slow. No matter what, he's gotta do the rap. Otherwise, what are we even doing here!

I wish he would get wild and do even a snippet of Can U Get Wit It. My wife would look around and I'd have on shades, a suit jacket with no shirt, and a straw in my mouth to do the DeVante parts. But its probably not happening.

Had not heard that, probably since 04-05.

Pt. 2 was so basic though, can’t believe that was the single and that people loved it.

Great guest appearances and entrances (Lil Jon's entrance was awesome).

Luda is still one of the best. I love that dude.

I like how it was well choreographed but not over the top. The focus was on the music and dancing.

Thought Jermaine Dupri was Cee Lo at first. That was wild.

Overall really great show. Usher's catalogue is so deep, I forgot about some of those songs.

Alicia "Off" Keys on that first note, LOL.

true, but Usher went off key a couple times and literally no one is talking about it...however its a totally normal thing, especially with live performing

like, Usher JUST married his longtime partner.

Swizz and AK been (apparently) happily married for a long time.

Usher is 45. not that you can't be a sniper at 45, but there comes a time when most men mature even in the face of temptation, but especially when you've had it all and done it all, which i'm guessing Usher has.

Pretty obvious (I play guitar and be watching people's hands). Bends not matching & notes playing themselves.

To be fair, I don't think they'd let her play live at the super bowl even if she wanted to.

>(I have no idea if HER played the guitar live but chances
>are.. )

To be even more fair, most social media musicians aren't playing "live" either, they are miming along to pre-recorded tracks that they may or may not have played in the first place.

You may have to just charge it to the game, but still, that should would sting.

Though the Dre/Snoop one from a couple of years ago was a lot of fun too. And it was probably better than Bruno Mars' first halftime performance like 10 years ago.

Overall, it's definitely one of the best that I've seen.

Nothing about it wowed me. The skating part looked really cool, but that was about it. The stage effects and all that don't move me.
My favorite entertainers are incredible even if it's just them and a microphone on stage whether they're just singing or dancing too. Usher's just not in that class for me. Nigga if you can't sing your song while you dance, just perform to a recording. What's the point in showing us what you CAN'T do? I guees I appreciate the honesty. His singing has never been incredible. Neither has his dancing imo. He's a *good* artist who has overachieved. Congratulations to the brother for sure, but there's a level of talent that moves and penetrates beyond stage effects and theatrics. He's not never been on that level imo.

I don't REALLY check for Usher's new music, anymore. I LOVE everything up to and including Confessions. I just kinda lost interest after that album. Every now and again, he'll bust out a single that I really rock with, like Good Kisser. My wife, on the other hand, is a CRAZY Usher fan. She's seen him twice in Vegas and her and her sister are planning to see him in November. The other week we were driving to Texas and I overheard this when she was playing Spotify from her phone, through the truck system. THIS SHIT IS PURE FIRE. Might be one of the best songs I've heard in the last 5 years. I've played it probably 50 times since last night...conservatively. I can't play the piano, but I'm an above-average singer (for non-stars, lol) and I want to try to learn this and play it for my wife on our 25th Anniversary. I got 2 years, 3 weeks...lol. Damn, though...perfection.

"A-Town Girl" is really bad. I can totally see how it might ruin someone's day.

But if you start with the song right after that ("Cold Blooded" feat The Dream), I think that's where the album gets into its groove and rolls on.

and A Town Girl is jarring in how bad it is. It's shocking that it made it on the album. The first time through, I busted out laughing when, during the chorus, he said "...she keep a blicky on her..." Beyond that, I do like Cold Blooded, Kissing Strangers, Risk it All, Ruin and On the Side. I'll prolly listen some more.

Let's be honest - how many 40+ pop artists can drop an album that REALLY hits commercially nowadays? Not speaking on the quality of the work whatsoever (I have not listened to the new Usher album), but while he may be able to tour for the rest of his life - it's just hard to think of legacy artists who are in that 40-45 zone who dropped another huge album.

Beyonce is kind of the only one I can think of, to be honest.

I actually think this is the sort of mentality Jennifer Lopez had after the Superbowl - and that album/project/tour flopped tremendously. It's a huge moment to be the Superbowl halftime show - no question. But it's more indicative that those who do the halftime show are usually legacy artists who are legendary. And by and large - nobody really gives a shit about a new Rolling Stones, Springsteen, Prince, etc album. They want the hits.
