"Poll question: What do you think of the new MLK statue in Boston Commons?" Tue Jan-17-23 01:56 PM by handle
It's called "The Embrace" and it's definitely an art piece. A TON of bullshit articles on "WOKE MIND VIURS" and "PENIS STATUE" are out there, but those people suck.
it works from some angles but its terrible from other angles
**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

but not in a public space designed to be displayed to the general public
i respect the creative process and output of an artist but i also think that sometimes you have to cater to the crowd as well, especially if your work is being funded by the taxpayers and is meant to "inspire" the masses...
that being said, it has people talking so that's a plus

there's nothing artful or creative about it.
it's dismissive of his legacy and what he should be remembered for. and the fact that it was sanctioned by a city that has a racist history towards black folk is of no coincidence either.

Two pairs of disembodied arms. That could represent *anyone*. Without a face, the sculpture is anonymous.
If you didn't know it was dedicated to Dr. King, you wouldn't know who or what it's supposed to represent.

Boston has it's well documented racist history, but Boston also wants to be seen as a sophisticated, cultured city because of Harvard, and New England Puritan blue bloods.
So you make a sculpture with no heads and the racist folks won't be annoyed with seeing Dr. King and Coretta's faces, while looking progressive and 'liberal' at the same time.
