"How was your weekend?"

I detest this question coming from coworkers on Monday morning during a teleconference.

AFTER work hours...
ALL through the weekend....

Fortunately i've finally gotten into the habit of turning ALL my work devices off when I stop work for the day...but it's mad annoying to see that folks had the audacity to be emailing and texting me all outside normal work hours and legit expecting me to have a response to them...

How was my weekend?? It woulda been GREAT had you not been bugging me with work shit since 5:30 Friday afternoon...

I’d never know that until I got back on the morning of my return. I delete most shit people send me when I come back from vacation. They were supposed to have handled that with whoever I put in my away message so as far as I’m concerned it’s already done. And if it isn’t, they know how to send me another email.

account to my phone. Before that, I always had it but never had notifications on, and never looked while off work. I have never understood why people get upset about emails coming in while they are away. For one, that person doesn’t have to look, and secondly those same people get upset when some decision was made while they were gone and they are out of the loop upon return.

As for me, I read the email chain of what happened while I was out on my first day back so that I know what is going on and I feel caught up. I could see it if someone is asking a question that needs a response before I am back - that would irritate me, but then too, I wouldn’t even see their question until I was back and I would answer it then.

like...we WORKING while most folks just getting up and planning how they gonna go about their day...

So I arrive on Monday with a shitload of questions that you been generating all weekend (when YOU shoulda been OFF TOO)....and the ONLY reason you hitting my phone up at 8am on a Monday (When you JUST now waking up and getting started with work) is because you wanting to see if I got answers to all them shits you were asking me about AFTER my work hours.... Your small talk is disingenuous at best...so lets just skip the nonsense pleasantries.

because it is disingenuous. My last boss, on the job I quit earlier this year, didn’t like me as a person and I didn’t like him. We had a “stand up” every day - lol a two person stand up - and he would say those various pleasantries in a very resentful tone so I would just answer in a vague way and not return the question. That really made him mad and I loved it. I didn’t care about his weekend or vacation or about how he was doing, so I didn’t bother asking, lol.

I don't mind small talk though. it's a breather from the bs of the work for me. if it's someone I don't care for, I'll keep it short af though.

Walked my right knee CLEAN OFF. I basically sat at home all Sunday trying to recoup. Other than that I just caught up on my TV. I don't get to watch a lot through the week, so Sunday is usually the day I cook up something good, drink beer and watch tv.

number and I sincerely said “oh they didn’t give me a phone” while holding my personal cell phone. I genuinely did not realize she wanted my personal cell phone number because before that I had had jobs where they gave you work cell phones and the look on her face was hilarious. I ended up giving it to her but I wish I had pushed back on that. I really didn’t need to give that personal my cell phone number. The person really didn’t need to be contacting me if I wasn’t at work. But it was clear to me that that was a culture around there and I just went along with it. Nowadays I don’t go along with stuff, lol.

I was thinking about this job that I had in my 20s where I made less than half of what I make now. The organization was funded by the United Way and we had these campaigns every year where they basically forced staff to donate. Looking back I feel like that was so unfair to pay somebody so little and then force them to donate what little money they do have. I was there to make money and if I were to choose to donate money it will be too organization of my choice.

One year I was really mad because I didn’t get paid on time - something went wrong in accounting - and it took me until Tuesday to actually get my paycheck that I was supposed to have on Friday. Then on Thursday one of the directors came to me and and told me that the VP was wondering why I hadn’t made a donation to the United Way for the campaign. And I just kind of looked at her like I was confused because she was my boss and I know what to say. She said the VP wanted to have everyone on our team donate. So I asked her does he know he that I didn’t get my paycheck on Friday and she just said “I don’t know” like it didn’t matter. I wish I could go back in time and say “no I’m not donating to the United Way and he wants 100% of his team to donate that he needs to find another team or pay more.” That was so wrong!

My girl lives 3 states away, so on Friday, we tried the idea of doing a facetime date that would simulate us meeting each other after work on a Friday as much as possible. So we called each other from our bar of choice, "drove" home together, got changed, and watched our shows via Hulu party etc. Still doesn't close the distance, but she enjoyed it and it'll do for now

Went to support some of the team from my BJJ gym on Saturday. It was my first competition, and it was cool to see that community vibe in real time. It's a small world, and people from other gyms were helping our guys get warmed up and vice versa. It opened my eyes to the need for community in some capacity. I'm not super close to my family, had several fallouts with long time friends in the past year or so, and had become somewhat of a lone wolf over time

had fun with her. she took me to a kickback with her friends. of course, I was the old head there. she's much younger than me. it was actually cool though. there was no awkwardness.

she can't drive for shit! on the phone, takes both hands off the wheel while driving with her legs. I've never been a passenger of hers as I normally do the driving.

Anyway. ya'll is weird.

A manager I had never spoken more than "hi/bye" to walked by my desk like "I didn't know you were working at a recording studio, also." It put more eyes on me to see if I was too sleepy at my desk or unfocused.

My boss always asks about our weekend in the Monday morning stand-up. Today was "Anything exciting this weekend?" and I honestly said "nope nothing here." He said "Oh nothing? Really? Just working your secret weekend job that is classified and can't be discussed?"

I was like "Dude, I don't know what you want me to tell you. I didn't leave the house all weekend. I literally laid on the couch for 48 hours."

He goes "Oh yeah I understand that, life is hard, get all the rest you can." in a tone that seemed like he was embarrassed.

It was a weird exchange. I guess he notices that I never have anything to share, but I am not hiding anything. I just don't have anything to share.
