Now a Cat 4 hurricane. This will be the first Cat 4 or stronger hurricane to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle. Panama City, Daytona, Pensacola, Tallahassee, Gulf Shores...have hopefully all evacuated.

they are saying there will be unprecedented storm surge. Watching the news right now, still got folks "riding it out" in Panama City, Apalachicola...wild.

the news was, tropical storm might turn into hurricane and the map showed it real close to the coast.
theyre usually hyping up storms that are cat4/5 and 100 miles away.
hopefully the local news cast was keeping people informed but it seems like maybe this was downplayed until it just rapidly turned into a cat 4. im worried for folks there. im just hoping theyre more prepared than im expecting them to be.

similar to Hurricane Opal in 95. It wasn't even a tropical storm this time a week ago, became a Cat 3 yesterday afternoon and strengthened to a Cat 4 overnight.
