seriously tho, I think KK showed how you can pimp the game with social media.
I also think reality TV has made so many nobodies into somebodies that folks just take videos of themselves and post it and hope for the best.
In order to stand out you have to be "crazy" or over the top with it
**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

Nah man...
It's Eric Nies, Heather B & Kevin Powell's fault
the day we began watching Real World Season 1 episode 1 was the day the shift began..
Then google (instantly any and all info about anyone or anything)
Then gen 1 black planet, migente and asian connection (~sp)
Then cell phone cameras and video
Then somewhere in there Paris hilton happens...
Then TMZ
Then Ryan Seacrest
Then Kim...

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

>is social media to blame? > >our own greed?
Tho shit was going left way back. Bad Boy era was the beginning of the end. Everything's been progressively getting simplified and watered-down ever since.
>did our generation fail the younger generation? > >is it lost forever?
My theory is that HIP HOP IS DONE. Real music from young people is going to come from something else (the return of talented singers? Bands?). Not some "new" form of hip hop which is really isn't.

few things at play...
Rap is currently the most potent reality TV and People are doing ANYTHING and everything to get on. This is not a skills game as much as it is a dog eat dog environment. What are you willing to do/say to possibly change your circumstances.
Social media has allowed for over exposure and oversharing... it is easier for a generation to pick up a phone and speak into it than it is to take the extra second to say... yea nah
Thirsty ass outlets that only survive off of ad dollars sold against constant views means they need to sensationalize every story for a click. So a tweet and it's responses are content... IG live video content... it feeds the beast.
This isnt just rap. From the president down we are currently in a weird transitional phase as we learn to grasp the path technology has afforded us and how we interact on a much larger scale with a much larger footprint digitally.
It's not only that everyone is in the truman show... its that we are all watching our own truman show... rating it.. editing it and rereleasing it all the time.
It is turning "celebrity" on its head because it is no longer coveted. It is not a gate keepers creation. Your tweet can go viral at any second... everyone is a celebrity or 1 comment away from being one
