"US intell tells trump the russians trying to blackmail/compromise him"

either with what personal info they found or via his hundreds of millions of russian debt

but hey trump dont go to the intelligence briefings and prefers to tweet about ratings of the new season of the apprentice. so looks like we're just waiting for somebody to whisper hail hydra at the inauguration

Intel chiefs presented Trump with claims of Russian efforts to compromise him

CNN)Classified documents presented last week to President Obama and President-elect Trump included allegations that Russian operatives claim to have compromising personal and financial information about Mr. Trump, multiple US officials with direct knowledge of the briefings tell CNN.

The allegations were presented in a two-page synopsis that was appended to a report on Russian interference in the 2016 election. The allegations came, in part, from memos compiled by a former British intelligence operative, whose past work US intelligence officials consider credible. The FBI is investigating the credibility and accuracy of these allegations, which are based primarily on information from Russian sources, but has not confirmed many essential details in the memos about Mr. Trump.
The classified briefings last week were presented by four of the senior-most US intelligence chiefs -- Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, FBI Director James Comey, CIA Director John Brennan, and NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers.

One reason the nation's intelligence chiefs took the extraordinary step of including the synopsis in the briefing documents was to make the President-elect aware that such allegations involving him are circulating among intelligence agencies, senior members of Congress and other government officials in Washington, multiple sources tell CNN.

These senior intelligence officials also included the synopsis to demonstrate that Russia had compiled information potentially harmful to both political parties, but only released information damaging to Hillary Clinton and Democrats. This synopsis was not an official part of the report from the intelligence community case about Russian hacks, but some officials said it augmented the evidence that Moscow intended to harm Clinton's candidacy and help Trump's, several officials with knowledge of the briefings tell CNN.

The two-page synopsis also included allegations that there was a continuing exchange of information during the campaign between Trump surrogates and intermediaries for the Russian government, according to two national security officials.

Sources tell CNN that these same allegations about communications between the Trump campaign and the Russians, mentioned in classified briefings for congressional leaders last year, prompted then-Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid to send a letter to FBI Director Comey in October, in which he wrote, "It has become clear that you possess explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government -- a foreign interest openly hostile to the United States."

CNN has confirmed that the synopsis was included in the documents that were presented to Mr. Trump but cannot confirm if it was discussed in his meeting with the intelligence chiefs.
The Trump transition team declined repeated requests for comment.

CNN has reviewed a 35-page compilation of the memos, from which the two-page synopsis was drawn. The memos originated as opposition research, first commissioned by anti-Trump Republicans, and later by Democrats. At this point, CNN is not reporting on details of the memos, as it has not independently corroborated the specific allegations. But, in preparing this story, CNN has spoken to multiple high ranking intelligence, administration, congressional and law enforcement officials, as well as foreign officials and others in the private sector with direct knowledge of the memos.

Some of the memos were circulating as far back as last summer. What has changed since then is that US intelligence agencies have now checked out the former British intelligence operative and his vast network throughout Europe and find him and his sources to be credible enough to include some of the information in the presentations to the President and President-elect a few days ago.
On the same day that the President-elect was briefed by the intelligence community, the top four Congressional leaders, and chairmen and ranking members of the House and Senate intelligence committees -- the so-called "Gang of Eight" -- were also provided a summary of the memos regarding Mr. Trump, according to law enforcement, intelligence and administration sources.

The two-page summary was written without the detailed specifics and information about sources and methods included in the memos by the former British intelligence official. That said, the synopsis was considered so sensitive it was not included in the classified report about Russian hacking that was more widely distributed, but rather in an annex only shared at the most senior levels of the government: President Obama, the President-elect, and the eight Congressional leaders.

CNN has also learned that on December 9, Senator John McCain gave a full copy of the memos -- dated from June through December, 2016 -- to FBI Director James Comey. McCain became aware of the memos from a former British diplomat who had been posted in Moscow. But the FBI had already been given a set of the memos compiled up to August 2016, when the former MI6 agent presented them to an FBI official in Rome, according to national security officials.

The raw memos on which the synopsis is based were prepared by the former MI6 agent, who was posted in Russia in the 1990s and now runs a private intelligence gathering firm. His investigations related to Mr. Trump were initially funded by groups and donors supporting Republican opponents of Mr. Trump during the GOP primaries, multiple sources confirmed to CNN. Those sources also said that once Mr. Trump became the nominee, further investigation was funded by groups and donors supporting Hillary Clinton.

Spokespeople for the FBI and the Director of National Intelligence declined to comment. Officials who spoke to CNN declined to do so on the record given the classified nature of the material.

Some of the allegations were first reported publicly in Mother Jones one week before the election.

some comedians have picked up on this (as they've said on their podcasts) but i haven't heard this pushed much in major media because you can't really prove it...

...but, remember when Obama ROASTED Trump at the White House Correspondents Dinner? Trump was just stewing while the whole room laughed at him for about 3 minutes straight. Anyhow, these comedians think it was that moment that Trump planned to get the Presidency so he could tear down Obama's legacy, and make Obama suffer the indignity of having to hand over the White House to him, etc.

that's really not that far fetched of a theory, if you take it in context w/ all this other shit.

i don't watch enough PBS.

i had just heard random comedians mention it.

i mean, let's be honest, Trump is easily petty enough for that to be the reason.

it's as good a theory as any outside of the power and financial gain that would come along with the office.

Time for 'murica to man up and accept the fact Trump won the election based on the reflection of our citizens.

Deal with that, instead of pushing the Russia headlines

We did that, not Vlad.

I think most people are past the point of arguing about whether or not the election was rigged or whatever. Russian interference is still something to be taken seriously. I don't think the Russians are why Trump won, but if they did want him to win, why? Regardless, we shouldn't be okay with any country interfering with our elections, it is something to be take seriously.

I'm sure there's a laundry list of countries we've done worse to

I'm talking about deflecting

The issues in this country reflected by Trump's nomination have nothing to do with Russia.

Ted Cruz would have been better?

but I guess in a way it is. Whether or not it's act of war, it's something that should be looked into and taken seriously. If it turns out to be nothing, fine. Trump seems to have a lot of connections to Russia, we will find out for sure eventually I'm guessing. Yes, we have poked our noses in other people's business many times, that doesn't mean I want people to do it to us. I really can't stand Cruz but yes I think he would probably be a better president, not that that's saying much. Yes, the reason a lot of people voted for Trump is because they are sick of the political establishment on both sides, I am too. I just think the idea of voting for him is wacky.

Apparently, we do consider it an act of war.

This military deployment was authorized in October

and the media has done the government's bidding by pushing the Russia angle ever since

and each headline is just as unverifiable as the next

The Russia hacking story still hasn't produced any concrete evidence

The headline in the OP = unverified reports

We just lived through 6 years of obstruction

and now that the roles are reversed, we're clamoring for war because we don't like the president elect...the fok kinda 4 YO in the sandbox kind of logic is that?

We give the Ukraine military support and we support one of the 3 sides in the Syrian (with Russia supporting one of the other sides).

The US has been VERY concerned about Putin's attempts to re-assert Russian power in the world for awhile now.

wins. That was Obama's sharp insight in calling him a carnival barker. But since that's what he is, that means he thrives in that circus-like atmosphere.

People are running wild with this without any proof and helping to stoke the circus-like aspect of this. Obama's speech last night slowed that down a little bit, but it's going to pick back up with Trump's press conference today. If this turns out to be made up or a hoax or whatever, Trump wins big.

the false story's content is one thing, but apparently the intelligence agent that acquired this information was formerly employed by mi-6 (verified). the content has yet to be confirmed, but the agent is apparently not in question.

In response to Reply # 0

Former MI6 agent Christopher Steele's frustration as FBI sat on Donald Trump Russia file for months http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-russia-dossier-file-investigation-hacking-christopher-steele-mi6-a7526901.html

Trump having no input on the long list of RNC proposals except the one related to ukraine is the "smoking gun" imo.

In the same month Mr Steele produced a memo, which went to the FBI, stating that Mr Trump’s campaign team had agreed to a Russian request to dilute attention on Moscow’s intervention in Ukraine. Four days later Mr Trump stated that he would recognise Moscow’s annexation of Crimea. A month later officials involved in his campaign asked the Republican party’s election platform to remove a pledge for military assistance to the Ukrainian government against separatist rebels in the east of the country.

Mr Steele claimed that the Trump campaign was taking this path because it was aware that the Russians were hacking Democratic Party emails. No evidence of this has been made public, but the same day that Mr Trump spoke about Crimea he called on the Kremlin to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails.

In response to Reply # 0

pence was told flynn did not discuss the sanctions, (ie workarounds)

the lie-detector determined: that was a lie
flynn is now not 100% certain what was discussed

-the SPiceman declined to take questions
-don cheeto is said to be "evaluating the situation" but still has 'full confidence' in flynn

"Despite the intense speculation about Flynn's future, no questions about Flynn were asked during the news conference Monday between Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Trump took two questions from U.S. reporters; both were from conservative-leaning media outlets. Flynn sat in the front row at the news conference with other administration officials."

In response to Reply # 0

What happened with Flynn WILL happen to others in the administration. They eff up, they and the administration lie about it, the truth comes out, and someone has to fall on a sword because of the discrepancy. They are WAY to quick to double down on "falsehoods", and there will be cases in which the truth is inescapable.

In this case alone we will still find out who knew what and when, and why action wasn't taken sooner. Then you have the potential security breach this weekend of 45* getting notified about the Korean missile test and then having an on the spot strategy meeting in front of the Japanese prime minister AND in a public restaurant.

That ish is crazy - I remember in the movie Olympus Has Fallen when the White House was attacked and they took the visiting South Korean prime minister into the bunker with them, and that was a big deal in the film because it was such a huge break of security protocol. And that was in a completely unrealistic popcorn flick - but it's actually happened in real life now?

Also this weekend you have someone posting a selfie with the dude carrying the nuclear football AND identifying him and posting on social media?

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C4jtUCmWEAATGhD.jpg

But her emails tho...

That said, if the relationship between Trump and them is un-salvagable, I expect to see a sequel to the R.Kelly tape on these streets sooner then later, lol

In response to Reply # 92

Apparently Pence was left out of the loop and was forced to lie for Flynn when

1)There was that scandal about Flynn's son getting high security access. They sent him out to give the press conferences on how it wasn't true but apparently it was and Flynn kept it from him

2)How he went to bat for Flynn claiming that there was no inappropriate contacts between him and the Russian.

To Pence Flynn was just an asshole going Rogue and another motherfucker he had to deal with trying to grab power in the game of thrones that is the white house. I wouldn't be surprised if he spun it to trump on some, 'He's lying to all of us'.

That said, imho its the intelligence community that killed him. While Trump is dumb enough to think he doesn't need them or that they love him; Comney and the election showed they don't have to play by the same rules as everyone else. Even Bannon would have had to have been worried at them actively working against them.

They dropped one of Trump's high level ppl before the election for similarly "too obvious" ties to Russia

This Flynn dude apparently called the Russian ambassador 5 times "to wish him Merry Christmas", including the day of the sanctions

Obama defending putin and 'we kill ppl, u think America's innocent?' Woulda been a 2 week fake-outrage controversy at the least. Didn't last a day with this guy

The oddball trump campaign 1 line revision to the GOP platform, ignoring 40 other bullet points on public policy but editing the one that dealt with Russia

Then the WH closed door phone call to Russia that they somehow "will not make a transcript available". Meanwhile they holding tactile military discussions on north Korea at open air garden parties, where u can go take a selfie with the nuclear football

Russia is the only story they try to keep quiet and don't want ppl digging into. Everything else they just refute (w/ alternative facts), ignore, distract, etc

Flynn his job? Also, does getting rid of Flynn silence the Russia speculation or fuel it?

I think Trump hunkers down and protects bad people when they do bad/illegal shit when he cares about them. If he doesn't, he doesn't mind tossing them to the wolves.

not in the normal spy sense (that would actually be ok by current pro-russia standards), but in the new trump white house sense

ie he is now being watched by the press/intelligence community for misconduct

altho the DOJ, and the last attorney general that trump let go, already told the WH that flynn was in too deep with russia, vulnerable to blackmail and/or working with them...

they didnt care/take action until it made the news

allegedly he wanted to drop spicer after the SNL sketch, but they talked him off it bc the visuals were bad to have to drop someone 3 weeks into his administration. and that was just the press secretary, who was mocked for being angry.
so to drop a inner circle adviser this early, either hes taking the fall for some things that are very very rotten, he maybe did get fully on trump's bad side this quick, or both

The US could be cozying up with Putin to prepare for an eventual war (REAL war, not trade war) with China. I wish I was joking about this but Bannon's on record:

Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence

By MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT, MARK MAZZETTI and MATT APUZZOFEB. 14, 2017

WASHINGTON — Phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials.

American law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications around the same time that they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee, three of the officials said. The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.

The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation.

But the intercepts alarmed American intelligence and law enforcement agencies, in part because of the amount of contact that was occurring while Mr. Trump was speaking glowingly about the Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin. At one point last summer, Mr. Trump said at a campaign event that he hoped Russian intelligence services had stolen Hillary Clinton’s emails and would make them public.

The officials said the intercepted communications were not limited to Trump campaign officials, and included other associates of Mr. Trump. On the Russian side, the contacts also included members of the Russian government outside of the intelligence services, the officials said. All of the current and former officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because the continuing investigation is classified.

The officials said that one of the advisers picked up on the calls was Paul Manafort, who was Mr. Trump’s campaign chairman for several months last year and had worked as a political consultant in Russia and Ukraine. The officials declined to identify the other Trump associates on the calls..

The call logs and intercepted communications are part of a larger trove of information that the F.B.I. is sifting through as it investigates the links between Mr. Trump’s associates and the Russian government, as well as the D.N.C. hack, according to federal law enforcement officials. As part of its inquiry, the F.B.I. has obtained banking and travel records and conducted interviews, the officials said.

Mr. Manafort, who has not been charged with any crimes, dismissed the accounts of the American officials in a telephone interview on Tuesday. “This is absurd,” he said. “I have no idea what this is referring to. I have never knowingly spoken to Russian intelligence officers, and I have never been involved with anything to do with the Russian government or the Putin administration or any other issues under investigation today.”

Mr. Manafort added, “It’s not like these people wear badges that say, ‘I’m a Russian intelligence officer.’”

Several of Mr. Trump’s associates, like Mr. Manafort, have done business in Russia, and it is not unusual for American businessmen to come in contact with foreign intelligence officials, sometimes unwittingly, in countries like Russia and Ukraine, where the spy services are deeply embedded in society. Law enforcement officials did not say to what extent the contacts may have been about business.

Officials would not disclose many details, including what was discussed on the calls, which Russian intelligence officials were on the calls, and how many of Mr. Trump’s advisers were talking to the Russians. It is also unclear whether the conversations had anything to do with Mr. Trump himself.

A published report from American intelligence agencies that was made public in January concluded that the Russian government had intervened in the election in part to help Mr. Trump, but did not address whether any members of the Trump campaign had participated in the effort.

The intercepted calls are different from the wiretapped conversations last year between Michael T. Flynn, President Trump’s former national security adviser, and Sergey I. Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the United States. During those calls, which led to Mr. Flynn’s resignation on Monday night, the two men discussed sanctions that the Obama administration imposed on Russia in December.

There isn't anything else I can conceive of it being. Flynn calls the Russian dude with some sort of offer, he counters, Flynn runs it by his people, etc. If it was just some sort of reassurance about sanctions being lifted, it would have been ONE call. Details were getting hashed out, no way this is a lone wolf thing.

Is Dude already in such close communication with Russia, that soon as the news breaks, he calls giving reassurances and heads up's?

Or does trump/Bannon tell him to make the call, meaning they, or someone, knew all along

Or did Russia call 1st, which would imply the plan was already in the works

I think if there's legit evidence of negotiating a deal, that's beyond resignation and moving towards treason category. Theyd leaking stuff to Congress instead of the press

need to go back even further...

Donald Trump kind of turned on a dime to become a birther.... there is a story about the origins of his birtherism..

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/03/us/politics/donald-trump-birther-obama.html?_r=0

here's what I want to know... there was a point where Donald Trump reached out to Joseph Farah to join his birherism efforts.... Now was trump reaching out prompted by his own views..or was anyone pressing him towards this..... and if anyone was...are any of these people connected to Russia..

The reason I think its a big deal is because I cannot believe that the birther-to-alt-right movement trump made ....and the Russia connection are completely separated. Putin is supporting and promoting far right nationalism in his own country and throughout Europe.... it's common ground with the alt-right breitbart global strategy..... So I cannot believe that trumps movement in that direction isn't connected with the accompanying connections with Russia...

that he just happened to move in that direction from birther-to-alt-right.... and then by chance...by coincidence he aligns himself with multiple people with connections to Russia in Flynn and manafort and stone in particular....it's just not believable that those things are not connecting or they happened by chance..

there is far more to this.

I assume the calls were monitored.

I bet if this gets pushed, Trump will just throw down the national security or executive privilege card. Try to stop it right in its tracks
