Unlike the rest of you clowns though I never had the (false) thought that Common lost his ability to spit. Gold, The Neighborhood, etc. would tell any reasonable hip-hop fan otherwise. He may not be quite as consistent as he used to be song to song but he's still got BARS and always did. Truly an MC's MC.
This shit was fire. Gonna take a while to pick apart all the wordplay but what I picked up on so far is insane by itself.
I need to see the whole interview but in the meantime, someone tell me what he said about this new album...when's it dropping ? No ID producing ? Is it along the same lines as Nobody Smiling (the song he was spitting in this video would lend credence to that being the case) or will he branch out with the subject matter a bit ?

I had this same gripe with him on some songs. Stick to what you're good at. The Nobody Smiling song with the Biggie sample comes to mind ... not recalling the name right now but his flow on that song was bruuuuutal.

... is all that similar to their styles. Common's always been a left-field MC. Rhyming about human rights and black power, relationships, etc. I don't think that type of material has an expiration date like being a drug dealer and being a hardcore street guy do.

You seem to at least have what I find to be the right thought process about him. His best days are behind him, don't love his most recent stuff, but still appreciate the fact that in his prime he was one of the best MCs we've seen in our lifetimes.
So many people have just straight up written him off cause of one or two missteps, and that's what confuses me the most.

I'm getting into making excuses territory so I'm going to attempt to clarify. From my limited world view, the cities with the most relatable intra race relations are Chicago and Los Angeles. Everyone else in the country has a different take.
So when someone from those regions have issues with black on black violence, they're coming at it with a different take than say someone without that same situation.
And in that vein a Chicago centric album with Chicago centric problems may not speak to everyone.
