I met a 3rd cousin once removed (my great-great-great grandparent is his great-great grandparent) at my fam reunion who is FINE. It ain't going down but I think I'd hit that maybe. Bc we ain't making babies and we have different surnames and we are so distantly related that if my family weren't so obsessive about these things we'd never know we have any relation. Third cousin once removed.
How far out must your cousin be b4 you'd think about it?

Our great grandfathers were brothers, so she's distant enough. If I met her at a club, smashed, and learned that we were cousins after the fact, I wouldn't be weirded out, but the fact that I met her at a family reunion was a dealbreaker.

For me, like DZ said, if we're at the same family reunion, that's an automatic no.
Also I'd say, if neither of our parents had any real sense of familial relationship, nor either of our grandparents, I wouldn't fee bad about it. That is to say, our grandmothers can't have played together all the time back in the day, as an example.
my grandmother's siblings (she's deceased) knew of this dude's grandfather from having attended so many reunions. they didn't know his ppl as children.

didn't even realize y'all were related.
In fact, I'd go so far as to guess almost no one on this board can name an actual 5th cousin of their by name. Being 5th cousins means your last common ancestor with a person was a mutual 4X great grandparent. I didn't grow up knowing a single person I could say that about, and I doubt anyone else here can, unless you're a descendant of the Habsburgs or Bourbons or Prince Akeem and Lisa McDowell - some royal family.
Point being, 5th, 6th, 7th cousins are the random people you cross paths without in the world, alot of times.

But for basically anyone in the US whose people came here before the 1960s, no one is aware of knowing any 5th cousins. You probably *do* know some, you just don't realize it.

been knowing him since they were kids on some family shit.
she introduced him to me as her cousin and a few months later it was like, "we're in love."
their family was against it but came around. they did research on how their babies would come out and all was well.
now they got a cute little baby boy that everybody loves.
i dont think its a big deal. culturally we are hung up on it but i'm not so sure there are biological concerns other than the fact that offspring who come from wildly diverse genes tend to fare better. they miss out on that but that's it.
she aint shamed. they're normal as far as I'm concerned.

But that's easy for me to say bc none of them are attractive to me.
If those 2 like it I love it for them. Most of the taboo is rooted in fear of birth defects in offspring - those 2 didn't have that problem. It's all good.

are fairly close and I grew up knowing her as my aunt and her children(6 girls) as my first cousins, I didn't really figure the whole step thing out and that we weren't actually blood related until I was a teenager.
3 of my step-first cousins were around my age and were "fast" as my mom would say, as we hit teenage years I use to see them around quite a bit and they would flirt real heavy with me and I would flirt back but that's as far as it went. Once I ran into them at high school dance and during the slow set I grinded with one pretty hard, something more might have happened but a big ass fight broke and we ended up getting separated.
I felt a little guilty about it afterwards but not that much, lol.
it ain't going down but as i was telling myself it wasn't going down b/c he's my cousin (even if he's 3rd cousin once removed) i came to see that i have no good reason for writing the dude off just b/c he's my cousin. the main reason for the taboo doesn't apply - we won't be making ANY babies together if we copulate.
