"was anybody a bigger fan of the FUgees than when they went solo?"

just wondering if anybody dug the Fugees better as a Group as to when they went solo?

they were once a pretty big deal as a group for a moment.

and when they went solo things they were different

After that though, I really missed the Fugees as a group. The quality of Clef's solo material declined and Lauryn never dropped another LP.

past those 3 it's pretty much a wash

some good songs but not enough (when all put together) for one more good album

I'm extremely thankful for Lauryn's Unplugged tho. One of my fave albums.
I'm also thankful for a whole lot of Clef's music... namely:
The Carvinal
The Masquerade <--very underrated project
Welcome To Haiti: Creole 101
From The Hut, To The Projects, To The Mansion

He also stays with a song I like even when I don't particularly like the albums as a whole.

about him trying too hard to do left-field shit. I mean, overall, I appreciate that
experimenting spirit... I just wish he would have sat on a lot of that stuff longer and
made it more relatable and "tangible" so to speak.

sits in a very odd place for me

its like listening to so something not quite fully formed

the concepts are there...just not fleshed otu enough to actually be GOOD

yet

its the auditory equivalent of eating a cake that fell

and its hard to look back at and think positively about without thinking "I'm listening to someone start to unravel"

i *like* it, 0but still wish it wasn't so bittersweet

You can tell things aren't going to be the same after that, regardless whether we
feel that's a good or bad thing.
I dig it so much because it shows someone working through issues and ideas that
so many of work through in a very poignant way. It's just as much about the music
as the mini sermons she gives in between. Honestly, I could dig those songs acapela.
They're that good to me. The rhyming she does on there? Man listen.
I'm hard-pressed to name another album, ever, that provides the same experience.
It's my favorite gospel album w/o really being gospel... but it is gospel... but.. ionno man I just love it, lol

And about her "unraveling", I actually saw that as a positive thing. She felt really
good about it. I was happy for her. She was beginning a new journey and seeing
the world in a way that gave her more peace. Yet another thing about it I love

someone may have more success once they go solo but nothing is better than seeing a group with multiple stars on the same stage performing together.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

made me a fan for life...

I gave Wyclef a few chances with his other work,
The Ecleftic was good, Preacher's Son & The Carnival II were okay...
nothing grabbed me like The Carnival did though.

Lauryn Hill, I cherish The Miseducation & stopped expecting a return to form.

Pras had an okay album with Ghetto Superstar, I bought it at the time 'cause I bought everything Fugee/related.

But Carnival and Miseducation are classics.

But there was something magical about their vibe as a group, Pras included

I generally prefer groups to solo artists, though.
