Just this minute read a Guardian article on them.
I guess the important bits are how much sunshine is actually needed to charge them reliably without needing to rely on the Grid (can see this being great if you're in Australia or Arizona... probably not so hot in London or Oslo) and how long they last before they stop holding enough charge to be worthwhile and you've got to shell out another £3500.
I'm tentatively optimistic though... this is the direction we should be moving in and however much people like tearing him apart, I've got all the time in the fucking world for Elon Musk.

but I definitely need more info.
We get a decent amount of sun in Charlotte so it could work for us.
curious to see about the installation charge.
We have a new Tesla Dealership 1 mile from my house. I don't think it's open yet but I'm damn sure going up there when it does to see if it would be a good investment.

Home Depot and Lowes have these natural gas powered backup generators that are connected to the gas line coming into the home. Power goes out, generator kicks in and powers the whole house.

I saw it and immediately said "but how many times does our power really go out?"
then our power when out during a storm and I was like "sure wish we had one of those generators"

the size we'd need to power everything we'd want to power in an outtage would run us around $3800 installed....
The only thing I can't tell is whether my gas bill would take a Goliath size hit from running it for say....2-days...
The longest outtage we've had was 4-days a few summers ago... I'd have gladly paid $3800 to have A/C during those few days.... My wife was pregnant...we slept on a blow up mattress in our unfinished basement because it was just that hot.
