"anybody had to replace a furnace lately?"

mine is 30 years old. got a tune up, which is really code for them to tell you that it needs replacing.

luckily it's still heating the house.

sidebar: dude was 'bragging' about having a 60k truck with a 900 note. (my dollar sign button isn't working). bragging by saying it was cheaper than his brother's 1000 dollar note. bruh.

my last note, from 2018) was nowhere near these numbers. ain't no way! these rates are too damn high.

It's a SEARS furnace. Been taking it apart and cleaning everything. Hoping to get at least another 5 years out of it. The main thing I'm worried about is the blower, but if that fails I should be able to just replace that part.

The guy from the gas company literally laughed at it when he came to cut the heat on. That was almost ten years ago tho.

My hot water heater is leaking tho... I'm looking to replace that in the next few weeks.

based on what I was told this morning, it's a mess and could be harmful.

another guy just gave me a estimate for under 8k. I'll get a few more before pulling the trigger. luckily mine still works, so it's not urgent.

since its a downward flow.

Man, I got like 5 quotes. All the local spots with radio ads were quoting 18K at minimum. I think the nest number was 15Kn

found a mexican dude that was independent on thumbtack or one of those sites and he quotes 7K for installing Carrier or one of the major brands

8K is a good price.

just want to make the right decision.

this company is one of the most popular in the city. the price includes a 10 year warranty and a new thermostat. financing could make it $100 a month or so. I would pay it off early but it would give me options.

I'll see what these other folks say. probably get 3-4 others to check it out. trying to more black folks to do it.

15k! damn. didn't know systems jumped in price like that. my ac was like 5k. probably timing. got it right at the start of covid.

this contractor has a 10 year warranty of their installs.
some of it is brand related. they only sell Lennox.

I'll have to decide between something like that and the smaller companies with cheaper prices and not as much service.

good thing I can take my time on a decision.

Hers made it 28 years to your 30. Had to get a new unit and Nest thermostat that she won’t reset her google password to use without my help.

To your sidebar, my coworker was saying he pays $700/mo. for a truck. My car has been paid off for a few years and I’m dreading having to go back to a not but I also refuse to dump money into something that’s gonna keep fucking up.

I hate being in that space of paying for fixes that just keep adding up. hopefully when it's time, they won't hit you over the head too hard.

my wife's car is a 2008 4runner. it actually runs fine, but it's old and hella inefficient. I'm dreading when its time to put it to bed.

24. "HVAC? Not yet. Water heater? Yep"
In response to Reply # 0

Our HVAC seems to be working. Finally had to cut it on last week when a cold front hit the east coast and my daughter got chilly. After the burn off from not being used half a year, all seems to be fine.

However, the hot water heater decided to die on us. No warning, just cold water one afternoon for no reason. Pilot light was out, and there was about 2 gallons of water in the water pan. So, we shut off the water line to the heater, vac'd out the pan and called the home warranty company. Still took over a week and $1200 (the heater and install were covered, but the extra parts for the heater were not). Only took 2 hours for the install. Unfortunately, it's a smaller heater (50 gallon vs. 65 gallon), so they had to add a thermostatic valve to try and compensate for the lost volume. Takes a few seconds longer to get the hot water thru the pipes, but it is nice and hot once it hits.

Houses, right?

Knew a guy with a home warranty who had to wait like 3 weeks because he had a small water heater in an apartment. That seems excessive.

Somehow my gas was cut off for a few days when we first moved in and I was conserving the hot water in the tank until it was turned back on

turns out my water heater is electric and I was conserving water for no damn reason.
