everyday we were required to put a black box over our hands during the lessons, and if you got caught looking under the box, you failed for the day

enough fails, you failed the class

I was obsessed with keeping my 4.0GPA, so I never looked under that box

so ever since then I never had to look at the keys

but yeah i think if you didn't take typing, then you have a tendency to second guess yourself and so yeah you would look.

I never had a formal typing class and basically taught myself on my old Atari 800XL computer by typing in programs day in and out.

These days I catch myself typing without looking at the keys about as much as I do while looking at them.

All high-school seniors were required to take typing and economics when I was coming up so I learned to formally type at 17.

Funny shit, of all the things studied during high school, my typing acumen is the skill I utilize the most in my 30's.
