And given the somewhat slow pace the show has gone, I doubt it, since it makes fiscal sense for the show to drag out such an important character for as long as AMC can.

It's a different group. Once she was kidnapped, they never showed her again. Daryl told Maggie last night what happened to Beth. It was a quick line, but he was telling her how it was a black car that was driving away.

This show is truly AMC's cash cow given the expensive looking effects used. Will be interesting to see how the show diverges from the comics going forward.

Just putting a little effort in running can help you escape from them.

Tyrese's sister isn't getting much development, so I'm worried about her.

Michonne is gonna be fine and they seem to be investing a lot of time into Tyrese's character.

Gabriel likely won't die either, even though he's so genuinely helpless, I can't see how he'll help the plot.

Episode 3 has The Hunters. Three people are supposed to get taken out, including _____ who was captured at the end of Ep 2.

I'm thinking that the girl who was with the Governor is gonna catch a bad one.

I'm really hoping Tyrese's sister isn't the third one, but I could see the writers doing it just to get Tyrese back into killing people again. Sigh.

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)

You know Glenn, Rick and Daryl aren't going anywhere. I really thought Gareth was gonna stab Bob in the eye. Especially since the show likes that "wow" moment and he seemed to finally make a breakthrough with Sasha. Plus, the group has gotten big again. Can't keep all those actors on the payroll from week to week. Somebody's gotta go.

-firing off precise shots on that M4 Carbine. Which had a nice sniper scope and bipod. Shit looks bad ass.

-made a mortar with another gun and a rocket firework.

-shot that broad in the knee and left her to die.

Sad that Michonne's sword is broken. There is no way to reforge that either. Maybe she'll get a new one along the way.

Morgan is back! He walking around like post apocalypse Storm Shadow and shit. Him and Michonne get together in the comics.

They left it in the bag, didn't they? I thought Rick told dude it was in the bag and that was what he wanted to use to kill him with.

'The Walking Dead' Sets Another Ratings Record
1:33 PM PDT 10/13/2014 by Michael O'Connell

TV's highest-rated series is still cheating gravity. After four seasons of setting new ratings records every few episodes, The Walking Dead rose yet again on Sunday night — fetching an average 17.3 million viewers and 11 million adults 18-49.

AMC's zombie drama eclipsed its previous viewership high, set one year ago, by more than 1 million viewers during the season five premiere. And in the key demo, the show was up 600,000 from its previous record.

Its great news for the cable network. Thin as it may be on original series these days, it boasts the biggest show on TV. And these initial live-plus-same day stats only tell a very small part of the story. Last season saw the series reach an average audience of 28 million weekly viewers once encores, DVR and additional platforms were taken into account.

Though the new records may be icing on the cake, The Walking Dead's premiere ratings come as little surprise. The series has never been for want of momentum — one reason why AMC gave it an early season six renewal last week.

Good fortune also extended to companion series Talking Dead. The after show, one of two unscripted series AMC is keeping around in its departure from reality programming, brought in 6.9 million viewers and 4.5 million adults under 50.

The Walking Dead ratings timeline:

Season 4 finale, Mar. 30, 2014: 15.7 million viewers, 10.2 million adults 18-49
Season 4 midseason premiere, Feb. 9, 2014: 15.8 million viewers, 10.4 million adults 18-49
Season 4 midseason finale, Dec. 1, 2013: 12.1 million viewers, 7.7 million adults 18-49
Season 4 premiere, Oct. 13, 2013: 16.1 million total viewers*, 10.4 million adults 18-49
Season 3 finale, March 31, 2013: 12.4 million total viewers*, 8.1 million 18-49*
Season 3 midseason premiere, Feb. 10, 2013: 12.3 million total viewers*, 6.8 million 18-49
Season 3 midseason finale, Dec. 2, 2012: 10.5 million total viewers, 6.9 million 18-49
Season 3 premiere, Oct. 14, 2012: 10.9 million total viewers, 7.3 million 18-49
Season 2 finale, March 18, 2012: 9 million total viewers, 6 million 18-49
Season 2 midseason premiere, Feb. 12, 2012: 8.1 million total viewers, 5.4 million* 18-49
Season 2 premiere, Oct. 16, 2011: 7.3 million total viewers, 4.8 million* 18-49
Season 2 midseason finale, Nov. 27, 2011: 6.6 million total viewers, 4.5 million 18-49
Season 1 finale, Dec. 5 2010: 6 million total viewers, 4 million 18-49
Season 1 premiere, Oct. 31, 2010: 5.4 million total viewers, 2.7 million 18-49

In response to Reply # 0

Like didn't you want to see more of sanctuary? They easily could have been two episodes (heck even three) in which they did a stand alone episode with the backstory of sanctury and show us how the place started off as a good place but turned bad once bad people showed up (like that standalone episode of the Governor).

In a show that seems to get stuck at certain locations for too long (i.e, the farm, maybe the prison), they really seemed to rush through an intriguing place with the sanctuary.

Plus, it looks like they're continuing those flashbacks to flesh out how the shit went down there before "our" group arrived. So I'm down for them getting the fuck out of that location with a quickness.

If this were seasons before, we would've had like 6 episodes of Rick trying to talk to the head dude before even saying "We gots to kill these fools."

I'd rather they just kill Bob, but to eat his leg while he's still alive? That's some disgusting shit.

I wonder why he was crying outside though, he definitely was on some 'stupid person in a scary movie' stuff with hanging out in the woods alone at night.

Decent episode, I assumed this one would be less exciting after the opener but it had enough intrigue going for it.

Actually Bob is the perfect person for them to kill off now as I was sure they were going to get rid of a Black person next with the exception of Michonne, and I like Bob the least out of them.

His last interaction with Sasha also seemed final, on top of the lonely shot of him walking outside.

Now getting into some SCIENCE though... the show already established that everyone already apparently carries the "virus", it just doesn't work until the host dies. So what happens if people eat diseased flesh? Presumably it shouldn't do anything right? Since the virus already infected everyone?

Them cats eating him too so we'll have to see if he was bit if that'll have an effect on them.

Also they let homeboy live from that cabin, WTF?!

but I dug the Rick scenes with Tara and Carol, tying up those loose ends. Sometimes that's a rarity with this show, but it adds much needed cohesiveness.

They don't really talk about much on there, just recap of the episode you just watched and stupid fan questions that the producers and actors can't answer.

It was kind of predictable but that's only because I read the comics and the storyline they are following is similar to whats on the page. But they are interpreting it very well.

In response to Reply # 0

For some reason when the Terminus guy was talking to him it struck me as he was very familiar with Bob. Moreso than just about to kill him for food. Like they had a past history. Makes me think that Bob was a member of Terminus prior to the initial uprising there and was either cast off or sent out to find more people to lead to Terminus. I can't remember how he came to the group, but I though he was wandering and rolling solo.
If he was not bit during the water battle and going outside to die, was he going to off himself because he was guilt ridden? Makes me think that is why he was so gung-ho about getting out of Ga. (or wherever they are) to D.C.

I really want to believe that he was bitten and now the terminus crew has eaten the tainted flesh, but I really don't know.

Also does anyone remember how long it was before they cut off Hershels leg after his bite? Is it possible they (unknowingly) saved Bob's life by cutting off his bitten leg?

...and if you listen hard enough I say some things - Jeezy

I also had the impression that he had some history with Terminus, but I forgot about it with all the tainted meat talk. It would be a great swerve if there was no taint, and he was leading them to Terminus from the very beginning.

That he was a mole. But there was no reason for him to lead them back to Terminus. Especially if he knew how murderous those folks were. Also, why did they keep him locked up with them. Once they captured everybody, shouldn't he have been chillin' at the dinner table eating some flesh?

Maybe he was bitten and they knew he was gonna die, so they are eating him? Maybe they know whether or not you can eat tainted flesh. I'm sure they have done some trial and error back at Terminus.

Honestly, they listened to the critics and are bringing things at a breakneck speed (for this show especially).

There are nitpicky things (such as breaking the group up yet again, but I guess that was just a matter of time), but it's been VERY good so far.

Agreed. No personality in that group. I love Glenn as a character and like the relationship with Maggie. But there's nothing interesting in that sub-group of characters.

Even the dialogue is relevant and believable, which wasn't always even when the action was good. Scott Gimple is doing his thing and I'm already over Mazzara leaving.

And I'm actually fine with the group splitting up. It makes sense story-wise and lets some characters breathe now that there are two separate arcs.

I see why Abe, Eugene Kenny Powers, and Rosalito would split up to go to DC. Even Tara. But what's the purpose of Maggie and Glenn going? They just met those folks a few weeks ago. They've been with Rick's crew for over a year (probably closer to two). I would stick with the people I know and trust.

Plus....is Maggie gonna mention Beth? Is ANYONE besides Daryl gonna mention Beth? That's another reason it doesn't make sense for Maggie to leave. Her effin' sister! Daryl mentioned Beth in passing when he explained that some car ran off with her. But that was it. Maggie doesn't seem to be too pressed to stick around for her sister. It makes no sense.

Really doesn't make any sense why no one's really mentioned her in forever, although on the flipside it's not like they're sitting around twiddling their thumbs either. A throwaway line about her would have helped at least.

However, I'm fine with Glenn and Maggie going. They ramped up the tension between Abe and Rick enough to warrant Glenn's compromise to prevent internal bloodshed. If he didn't step in then Rick and Abe would have at least come to blows over the bus, if not something worse.

As for Maggie knowing about Beth, she doesn't know that Daryl/Carol are off chasing the other car, so she doesn't know to stay behind.

But offering himself and Maggie as travel companions doesn't make any sense to me. I understand Glenn wanted to settle things down between Rick and Abe. Maybe my issue is with Abe's motivation. Why would the addition of Glenn and Maggie make him think, "You know what. I'll help you guys tonight cause Glenn and Maggie will join us." Also, once the immediate threat of the Fine Young Cannibals (I stole that from somewhere.) was resolved, there should not have been the same urgency from Abe to leave. The smart play was to hang out a couple of more days to see if Caryl (I stole that too.) returned. They are two of the strongest fighters and it would make more sense to hang back so the ENTIRE group can go to DC.

>
>As for Maggie knowing about Beth, she doesn't know that

Bob mentioned in the church that Gareth told him Caryl got in a car and left. So Maggie knew. But besides that, Daryl told them a couple of days prior when they were all reunited that some car took Beth away. So Maggie could of at least held out some hope of finding her sister. "Hey guys can we look for Beth while we're out here?" Something that would indicate her sister is on her mind.

Glenn didn't offer themselves up himself, it was basically a concession to prevent conflict.

As for Abe's motivation, it just makes sense to want more people, and IIRC Glenn and Maggie have always seemed more than capable of taking care of themmselves (in front of Abe).

I do agree with you 100% though that waiting until the whole group would be ideal, and it would be what I would do. Although it's well established that Abe has been hellbent on going to DC, so at least the character is consistent.

Maggie knew Caryl (nice) left, but not for what purpose. They could have gone off to get supplies for all she knew. But yeah no lines from Maggie about Beth is still mindboggling.

I think Glenn and Maggie are taking a breather from the group.

They've had to fight their way through every obstacle from the farm to Terminus. I think they may be tiring of the struggle, of the battle at every turn, and are looking for a fresh start. Or at least an alternative to their current existence.

After they escaped Terminus, it was Glenn and Maggie who urged Rick to move on when Rick wanted to track down Gareth and the cannibals and kill them off.

Early in this episode, Maggie was sitting in the pew holding a bible. Perhaps it reminded her of Hershel, and the fact that she's lost her entire family? Perhaps she wanted peace of mind? But she could not get that at the church. During Ricky Amin's Revenge, both she and Glenn looked uncomfortable, damn near in shock at the level of gruesome violence. When the priest commented that these killings took place in the Lord's house, Maggie said, "No, it's not. It's just four walls and a roof."

I think she's looking for another way to live, for now, before the brutality sets in on her like it did Rick.

And perhaps Glenn feels like he owes Ford for sticking with him as he looked for Maggie?

It makes perfect sense given the circumstances. The issue is the writers did not sufficiently capture their motivation IMO. If there was some scene of Maggie saying, "I don't know where Beth is. Whether she'll ever come back or if she's even alive. I think we should go to DC Glenn." Boom. She says that, then I don't have a problem with it. But she didn't. There's a huge narrative hole here with not even a mention of Beth. She disappeared like the youngest daughter on Family Matters.

Their decision to leave did seem abrupt, given their strong connection to Rick and the others, illustrated most by Glenn's "You don't make that call" line to Rick about them going. Rick's been their leader all this time, but Glenn easily took that power from him with that statement. Which makes me think even more they wanted to get away for a spell.

The Beth thing, I'm scratching my head at as well. Maybe Maggie's like, "What's the point of mourning now...SHE GONE..."

I don't recall Maggie mentioning finding Beth last season either when they were splintered. She was all about Glenn.

And not wasting much time. And look at that, Rick is actually interesting and 3-dimensional again.

As you said, some nitpicky stuff here and there, but overall this series is moving fast. Hopefully they keep it up.

Carol wasn't there to know that Tyrese gave let guy in the hoodie from the cabin live. He did look like he got his ass handed to him, but still.

Doubt it will ever come back up now that he's dead and gone. Guess that whole scene was just for the audience to get a glimpse of Tyrese's mind state?

I was really tired and I think I fell asleep during the talk with one legged Bob. When he told them he was tainted. Then I woke up at the end. Michonne sitting on the porch with her sword. I didnt realize how long I was out I just thought man what a boring episode. I knew they would go back to this bull shit. Then I went to bed. Well I am laying in bed trying to fall asleep and it hits me. MICHONNE HAS HER SWORD!! So I ran downstairs and watched the episode again. Man they are killing this season. Really good season. RIck has gone off the deep end.

The "bottle" episode without any of the big names to allocate more of the budget elsewhere.

But yeah, easily the weakest episode of the season with some illogical scenes creeping back in. Like if it's so difficult to leave the hospital, how do they find these strays? And why did they need that key if they're going outside?

At least Carol showed up at the end to tie it to the main group. Still really looking forward to next week.

Daryl came out looking glum. If it were Beth, he would have looked happier. I'm thinking he came back with Carol and Noah. Like they weren't able to find Beth. Or he came back with Carol and not Beth. Either way, there's a reason he doesn't look too happy. It has to be because they lost someone.

Had that vibe to it. Kinda felt uneasy but not because of the zombies, just these assholes who think just because the world has fallen apart they can do what they want to and think they're justified because of their previous authority.

Wasn't the best episode, but its better that we did have it rather than have them show up to save Beth without knowing how much danger she's actually in.

I swear this show really makes you hate people. As soon as ol girl slapped Beth I wanted her dead. The guy cop too.

...but I'm tired of rape and rapey situations in TV and film to show me that someone is bad or that a woman is in a shitty place. It just comes across gross and cheap to me. There was plenty in that set up you could do to show that it's a very bad place that you'd want to escape from without it being "And the dudes are raping all of the women." I'm not offended or outraged or anything like that. I'm just tired of seeing it. It's trite to me.

Beyond that, this shit was kinda boring, but the rest of the season bought them so much good grace that I'm not concerned. I just wasn't into it.

Also, I want to write a romcom for TJW. Dude is just mad likeable to me.

My annoyance is they did did this already with Maggie, if not a few other characters. There's other ways to show a guy is bad. Again, I'm not #Outrage'd or any thing. I'm just over seeing "oh shit, he's trying to rape a woman. He *is* a bad guy!" Not just here, but all over. It's more gross than compelling to me. But like I said, that's just me.

I am not a technical film person so I couldn't evaluate on that level but this episode did seem disjointed and a bit amateurish compared to more recent episodes.

Like they made this episode on half the budget of the season premiere.

It's starting to get boring and storylines rehased... pretty sure I'll be proven wrong but the Hospital setup just seems like another Governer.

Is anyone else buying the Eugene/Abraham storyline??? They both seem like two nuts who ran into each other and are just keeping busy..

I can't remember his story on why it had to be DC and why they even believe a government structure still even exist..

kinda like what they have fashioned in Fallen Skies on TNT. I wonder if these guys were ever under military control and if so how long did it take for that to collapse? I think it's been insinuated at times during the series.

Swiped the intro, but nice read from Greenwald:

Undead and Loving It: How Did AMC’s Flagship Show Suddenly Get So Good?

NOVEMBER 5, 2014
by ANDY GREENWALD

I long felt that The Walking Dead punished its critics the same way its bedraggled heroes dispatched ravenous zombies: by stabbing them in the brain. The show was noisy, violent, and unrelentingly dumb. Which wasn’t itself a problem: There are worse ways to spend Sunday night than watching meatheads attack each other. What frustrated me most about the first four seasons of The Walking Dead was the way it squandered its unique potential. No series in the history of television has ever been as malleable as this. Because of its setting — a dystopian hellscape ravaged by flesh-eating monsters — The Walking Dead was capable of making wholesale changes in the time it takes most shows to clear their throats. Why? Because its characters existed in a dystopian hellscape ravaged by flesh-eating monsters. There were no dead ends, only open, undead mouths. So the fact that we were stuck with milquetoast dum-dums like Shane, Dale, and Andrea as long as we were was infuriating. These characters should have been buying the farm years ago. Instead, they were camped out on one.

Not that the audience seemed to care. As the corpses piled up, so did the viewers. The Walking Dead is the most popular show on television among the coveted 18-to-49-year-old demographic, and it’s not even close. (As Vulture’s Joe Adalian tweeted yesterday, the demo rating for this week’s episode, a lusty 7.2, is greater than the combined total of the four broadcast networks’ programming for the night.) For a while, I argued that this ratings dominance ought to make AMC more committed to improving its signature product. Successful shows have flexibility that struggling series only dream about. As long as The Walking Dead larded each hour with a few gruesome kills and a half-dozen instances of that rotting-melon squish sound, it was free to Trojan-horse all manner of strangeness into the proceedings. But it didn’t and no one seemed to care. So I took a cue from T-Dog (RIP!), shut my trap, and retreated to the background. The Walking Dead didn’t need to be good. And I didn’t need to keep complaining about it.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the glue factory. The show that returned for its fifth season last month isn’t just improved, it’s taken a wildly unexpected turn toward being great. At first, I wondered if my time away had simply mellowed me. After all, it’s far easier, not to mention more pleasurable, to watch a show for what it is rather than what it isn’t. And a summer spent slogging through the amateurish splatter of The Strain made me newly appreciative of the essential competence of The Walking Dead. (A good makeup team can mean the difference between Hollywood and Ed Wood.) But thanks to the canny efforts of third showrunner Scott M. Gimple, The Walking Dead’s improvements are more than just cosmetic. For the first time in its wildly successful existence, the show is using brains for more than just dinner. Here’s how The Walking Dead has gotten smarter.

But they always seemed so "ho-hum" about it, until the last couple episodes with Abraham.

In fact Abraham seemed to be the only character who really cared that there's a cure. The rest of his crew just seemed to go along with it. The main group with Rick and everyone never seemed to make a big deal about it either. At least as big as should've been made given the situation.

I remember being like "Oh shit!" when this moment came in the comics, because it had a good lead up to it and really made things seem hopeless. I'm not sure if the show did that though. Did y'all who didn't read the comic still get that effect from the show? Maybe I'm just viewing it differently having read it

I read the comics up to that point too, so I knew it was coming. But my wife was calling bullshit the whole time. I'm guessing that might be the intent though... by having all those "that's classified" scenes you're never really sure if he knows anything or not.

It does come off differently on the show vs the page though... on the show you can form your opinions off of things like reactions and body language while you can't do that with the books. Either way though, I still dug the episode even after knowing what's coming. I don't remember what happens next with Eugene and Abraham but fleshing out their story was pretty interesting.

The "that's classified" stuff was laid on a little thick to me, and given how bad their lives are, I figured they'd challenge him more on that. So I'd probably be calling bullshit too. I didn't think I had that feeling while reading.

Definitely. That's why I never go hard on the book vs. film stuff. I was just wondering how hard hitting it was if you weren't expecting it.

Yeah I did still like the episode. I've always like Abraham as a character so it was good to get more into his story

that said Eugene did still say he felt DC was their best chance at survival. Wonder if he'll explain that at all.

Also if he really believes that it makes no sense that he'd sabotage the bus. He ultimately still wants to go there, despite being a scam, so why wouldn't he just wait until they were close enough and run off or something? Dude is a weirdo and officially the funniest character on the show. Can't believe he was just watching Abraham and homegirl bone like that and they let him lol

... if you take the scene as-is, it's still incredibly brutal. Abe is audibly beating on dude's face with a can and there's similar carnage in his wake. Even without knowing what those guys did (and it was clear they weren't zombies), it's obvious that whatever happened with Abe spooked the shit out of his family (and I agree, sometimes a little mystery is preferred).

There was purpose in focusing on Abe's hands. And purpose in Abe's lines about how killing "became easier". Whether or not those guys actually deserved their fate is largely irrelevant... what can't be questioned is that his family was terrified of *Abe*.

Also, I would argue that it would instill confusion in the viewer if we knew what those guys actually did. If it was clear they were rapists, then we would be questioning why Ellen would run from her "savior". But with the way the episode played out, we're instead shown that Abe is the real "monster".

Knowing what those guys actually did just raised the brutality factor by that much more I guess. Maybe after already being in an emotionally fragile state, seeing her husband go wild like that was the breaking point.

- Good episode and nice to see, Carol is my favorite character.

- Everybody hates Chris fucked around and got huge. That little boy is a man now.

- Next week might get messy.

I was wondering how Carol got into their hands... and now we know, haha

I dug the episode too but for some reason dialogue between Darryl and Carol always comes off so awkward to me. Like they purposefully try to things sorta cryptic between the two but it just comes off stilted and unfinished. Carol's a G though, really glad they gave us a few scenes from her time alone.

On that note, this is the third straight episode without Rick now. I'm definitely a fan of the shift, as it (hopefully) means the show becomes less about Rick and more the ensemble. There are also other interesting implications from that shift as well...

But she said it "you don't know me" she's reluctant and ashamed to give anyone an insight into who she was. She gives him a bit at a time, but all in all she is really just playing close to herself.

- She talks about Daryl like a mother would not a lover "you were boy before, now you're a man." she's peeped out everyone in a way that not a lot of people truly understand. Also why she couldn't just let Noah die, because after they got their guns back he was just a little kid that was scared and needed help.

- She's my favorite.

- Rick ain't dying, him, Carl, and Michonne are off limits. I'd love for them to be as daring as to kill off Rick, but I don't think there's any way that happens.

Maybe this whole Beth & Darryl thing might have legs then.

And yeah there's no way they would kill Rick off anytime soon, at least not while this show's killing it in the ratings. I could see it down the line though if storylines get stagnant. Either way though, expanding everyone's roles is a great thing all around, and gives more impact once they finally do go (T-Dawg, anyone?).

In response to Reply # 159

After running into cannibals and all sorts of evil people, you decide to trust one stranger's word that another stranger is one of the good guys? And his name's Bob? Sure, let me take you over here and help you... Doh!

And Glen is now making nice with Rosita. Dude is having the best zombie apocalypse ever!

It wasn't a bad episode but, yeah, definitely felt like they realized they were an episode short and stretched out some stories.

They're both kinda same-y looking, with the same cardboard personality.

But yeah sucks that Sasha's probably gonna go... definitely the cutest on the show, and her relationship with Tyreese probably dooms her rather than saves her.

like this is a hardened group of killers. They are so strategic in how they move, how they clear moves. In everything they do. But shit like this gets them. We all knew what was going to happen. Well I thought she was going to undo his cuffs and have him point out his boy. At least she wasnt that stupid. But still.

The season has been good but why the fuck do they have to throw all these slow episodes back to back to back to back. Every season they give us 2 great episodes right off the bat then fill the middle. Then the last episode is great. Then we wait 6 months for them to do the same shit to us again.

The editing was jarring, and transitions just felt disjointed.

I'm optimistic for the second half, but the early season momentum kinda stalled out.

I just thought most of this episode was boring.

And the low budget way they set up the hospital and not really establishing how many people were there really cut the legs out from under that story. What was there. It almost feel like the hospital could have been a spin-off show and then with a couple of crossover episodes.

But, in general, it's just very hard to end a story in this world to most people's satisfaction. End of the day, they are just going to fight their way back to the status quo. It was a good half season; just hard to knock it out of the park when they are saving Beth.

It NEVER crossed my mind that she could go. Even as she's grown and shown greater strength on the show, she still had aura of innocence and fragility about her, like she still needed to be protected. Emily Kinney herself is in her late 20s, but she looks like a frail, little bird. I think that's what made it so shocking for me. Even with her shanking Dawn with the scissors, to see this little gal with those big, vulnerable, always-on-the-verge-of-tears eyes GET HER CAP PEELED, was unexpected and a little heartbreaking.

I thought Noah was going to get toasted, not Beth.

I actually felt a little sad, especially as Daryl carried her out of the building. And when Emily Kinney appeared on Talking Dead, all teary-eyed as she spoke about the episode, all I could say was, "DAMN."

Great finale, though it did make me wonder...If all those cops not-so-secretly hated Dawn, why didn't they just overthrow her? She admitted that she killed their previous leader when he lost control, so why couldn’t they have removed her from her position, even without killing her? She could clearly handle herself, but I don't feel her hold over the group was that fearsome or dictatorial, that they were powerless to do something, especially since there were some grimy cops amongst them.

Rick running dude over with the car was hilarious, as was his icey demeanor when he was negotiating with the two cops on the parking platform. "Radio your Lieutenant...I'll wait."

GrimeTime gives no fucks.

...But I thoroughly enjoy the show, and have so since the beginning. I love the multiple perspectives we've gotten from both primary and secondary characters. They have a unique group, with varying backgrounds and personalities. Seeing the individual transformations has been key in illustrating just how fucked up the world is now. There's a duality and an inner struggle you see in them, that you haven't seen from the other groups they've encountered. It makes the stories more interesting to me. So if they drag a bit with a storyline, or if they focus on a character that the audience may not mesh with, like Beth, I don't really mind.

We seen Rick talking on rotary phones to dead people & chilling in the woods doing stuff and things... After letting the Governor live came back to fuck everyone up, Rick's not on that bullshit anymore. Interesting how Daryl is more of the moral between he & Rick at this point in the show.

As for Beth, I'm kinda surprised so many other people are surprised. Before the hostage trade, I knew something big had to happen because it's the mid-season finale. Since it's TWD, something big is usually big death. Beth & Carol were obviously the most vulnerable being longtime cast members, but Carol story couldn't end in that hospital, that just wouldn't likely be a satisfying arc for such important character.

I was shocked at how it went down because the deal was already done. It was effective because I liked Beth and I'm sad she's gone. But now it's device to do some different stuff with Maggie & it'll probably hit Daryl in a big way, too. Noah has to be in a weird place too; Beth basically gave her life for him & he's trying to survive with the group that came to save her... I hope homie can sing

He use to battle with his old partner all the time about how to survive in this new environment. His partner was by any means necessary. He was all about retaining his humanity.

Humanity is what got people killed when he let the governor go. Won't make that mistake again.

I think his new thing is he is living by a code which is mainly protect the group by making hard decisions.

He did shoot that cop like a dog but he also offered to save anyone who wanted to come with him.

- I wasn't surprised that she got killed, I mean that spent the last 4 episodes building up a NOTHING character. So of course she was on the way out. The best part though is that is happened SO FAST. I was very happy.

- For folks complaining about technical aspects of the show, this show has never been technically sound, EVER I'm not sure why that would be an issue now?

- Good first half of the season.

They even worked to create a rounder character for Bob and yet no one gave two wet farts when homie died.

Dude was an alcoholic who found redemption, companionship and ultimately love in the zombie apocalypse.

Dude had a damn tearful ending that no one cared about. Useless ass blondie got muthafuckas screaming at their tv, she stabbed a person who was holding a gun with dull scissors, what do you think was going to happen

But in terms of the viewer experience, Beth came from nowhere. As soon as Bob got whacked on the head, we already figured he was gonna get got sooner or later.

And to be fair, he got a damn good death scene. Not gonna be a lot of outrage if we knew it was coming two episodes prior and he got Rick eulogizing over him

His death didn't bother me compared to how weak the character was in comparison to the one in the comics. I think the fact he was so weak is the main reason why I didn't care about the death to be honest. To the show's credit, they did bring back a lot of dead characters to show him off I suppose. It is sad though given the acting chops Chad Coleman showed while he was on The Wire Tyrese on the show wasn't given better material to sink his teeth into.

And I can't see Hop A Long Cassidy lasting too long in the group either, but perhaps the character will get fleshed out so his purpose for the group can be shown.

Technically, this isn't true. In addition to Hop A Long Cassidy, there's Minister Carver, Michonne, and Tyrese's sister left as survivors. In addition, there's also the character that Rick met when he first escaped the hospital who is still lingering around if memory serves me right. Let's see how long they survive though.

>That in tandem w/how THOROUGHLY they neutered a strong black
>male character. It's fucked up.

If this show didn't have other problems or I held it in high regards like Breaking Bad or The Wire, that would upset me. I wonder if Chan Coleman himself read the comics and is aware how the character was portrayed.

As spades pointed out, this "black men exceeding capacity so one must die" bullshit is so obvious and wack.

I understand comic canon can be different than its TV counterpart but the TV characters are close to its comic ones.

This Tyreese was weak, a beta male that comic Ty would abhor.

I thought the writers would give Tyreese a chance to turn his character around but nope.

Surprised he didn't change some diapers before he checked out.

I think they could have added a story about the people hanging back and trimmed up some of the Tyrese moments and some of the other chatter. Or just given Michonne more of a drive to prove that the place was surrounded and have them investigate more (of course, that would mean more money for expanded locations.)

Although the biggest miscue was that this should have been the last show before the break. Opening with the end of Tys emotional journey after a long layoff definitely muted the affect IMO. (Although a lot of people called the episode heartbreaking.)

There is only so much you can do with this group of characters (or that's what I am getting from the writing of this show). To break the monotony or repetitiveness of this group's journey they could have plenty of almost self contained stories about groups they come across.

I think they missed the mark by not doing an episode dedicated to the backstory of Sanctuary.

They could have done an episode with the backstory of what happened in this gated community (still a possibility).

more badass than Michonne even. Dude got cornered in a room with a bunch of zombies and the folks he was with left him assuming he was dead. he stayed locked in there for several days until Rick came back and flipped out...opened the room up to confirm whether he was dead or not. Dude was sitting there on a pile of zombies like "what took yall so long"...he killed a room full of zombies with his bare hands despite having no way to escape and nowhere to run.

In addition to being physically imposing, how was also a co-leader with Rick when they first met if I remember correctly. The Tyrese on the show didn't even come close to being a strong presence in that regard.

and make my mind up on this show then.

I'm really tiring of its premise now. Like, I'm finally getting to the point of "all they do is walk around and kill stuff".

I knew the whole DC thing was a lie from the time it was first mentioned, but I looked forward to the journey and to what would be there. I know theyre on their way now, but this dude that showed up last night...I just see it being a different version of what theyve already done...terminus...the governor...

Please prove me wrong Walking Dead...

But not terrible. I didn't hate it as much as the last episode, that's for sure, and the dude at the end will provide yet another direction for the group.

but to be fair, it's the zombie apocalypse... shit is supposed to be bleak, right?

One thing I appreciated was this felt like the first time in a long time (since maybe the original campsite?) where supplies were actually scarce. Hershel's farm then the prison/Governor then Terminus all drove the group from one conflict to another but food and water were always relatively abundant. It's been 18 months, there's gotta be shit they're running out of. The struggle doesn't always have to be external.

I think they had to do an episode like this with all the despair and showing them down and out in order for it to be believable that the group might be able to trust someone new.

If they were healthy and strong there is no way they would even consider what Aaron is telling them.

She was not feeling Woodbury at all, but she's ready to settle down now. I understand why Rick feels the opposite way tho.

Cause if it's just the same kind of fuckedupness as Woodbury/terminus it'll be boring. Obviously if they get complacent (a la the prison) it'll also be boring, but I will hate if it's the typical "friendly on the outside, evil on the inside" thing.
