not that excited about it like i am for the official start of s4. but i am curious about what was going on pegasus. like the abuse of six and how cain killed the civillians for thier resources. but i don't see how all of the regular cast fits into the story or how they will even include them since this is essentially the pegaus story before they found galactica.

First Look! 'Battlestar Galactica: Razor'

Get a sneak peek at the two-hour flashback ''Razor,'' plus hints about season 4

Gotta love those wily scribes at Battlestar Galactica. The fourth and final (sniff!) season of the acclaimed Sci Fi series doesn't yet have a set air date—a rep says look for it early next year (more on that in a bit)—so for an appetizer, the show's cooked up Razor, a two-hour flashback episode airing Nov. 24. (An extended-cut DVD hits shelves Dec. 4.)

The story is ostensibly about the first mission of the (now-lost) Battlestar Pegasus under the command of Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber), which falls roughly in the latter half of the second season. It's told, though, through the eyes of new character Kendra Shaw (Stephanie Jacobsen). ''Lee promotes to be his ,'' explains show-runner Ronald D. Moore, ''and you wonder, who is this woman?'' That question, says Moore, allows the show to explore ''a lot of things that we've talked about or alluded to but never actually seen. You start flashing all the way back to before the Cylon attack on the colonies, to who she was, how she came to the Pegasus, what happened to them, and what was their story before they met up with Galactica.''


The Pegasus backstory means that yes, the hard-bitten, uncompromising Admiral Cain (Michelle Forbes) will be returning, much to the delight of the writers. ''Everyone sat up and said, 'Yeah! Let's do something with Pegasus and Admiral Cain,''' reports Moore, ''because everyone missed her.'' And we'll get to see just how Cylon agent Gina (Tricia Helfer), a ''Six'' model, went from posing as a systems analyst to the beaten, raped, and tortured prisoner in the Pegasus brig eventually responsible for axing Adm. Cain.

But Razor isn't just confined within the Pegasus bulkheads. ''Along the way,'' says Moore, ''we also do things like flash back to the original Cylon wars 40 years ago. We see a young Adama fighting in a Viper. We move around quite a bit in the chronology of the series.'' Although that chronology won't include any sort of resolution to the season 3 cliffhanger, Moore does guarantee that ''there are some things that happen in Razor that set up things in the fourth season.''

Yeah, about that fourth season: ''It's very big,'' promises Moore. ''We're moving very strongly into the finale of the show. It's about getting to Earth, and what does Earth mean, and what is it, and where is it.'' Along with previously announced guest star Lucy Lawless (who'll pop up again for a few episodes as messianic Cylon D'Anna Biers), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine alum Nana Visitor will appear in an episode as a cancer patient undergoing treatment with President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell). Oh, and Moore says that, yes, he does know who the final unknown Cylon is; yes, whoever is playing that character knows he or she has been anointed; but no, they haven't shot the reveal yet (it will most likely be in the second half of the season).

Just when we get to see that half, however, is still very much up in the air. When asked about recent reports that Battlestar's final episodes may not air until 2009, Moore is noncommittal. ''That's a possibility,'' he concedes. ''No decisions have been made in terms of airdates and how many episodes they're going to run. There's a lot of factors, everything from there are other series they're going to have on the air a possibility of a writers strike and how that affects programming. It's a complicated equation and there's no answer to that yet.''

Really, though, no matter when it airs, Moore is pumped about how it will all end. ''I took the writers on a retreat over the summer for a few days and we had lengthy discussions about Earth, what it's going to be when we get there, and what it means for the show. At this point, I think we're pretty jazzed. We really liked where we ended up. It's certainly a bittersweet thing, because we know it's the end. But we're happy with the direction we're going.''

Get 'BSG' goodness, avoid 'Flash Gordon' crappiness

In advance of the two-hour Battlestar Galactica: Razor geeknip TV movie, the Sci-Fi Channel will air two-minute "flashback" clips every Friday night, from October 5 through November 16. Cool, right? Want more cool? They detail the adventures of William "Husker" Adama's rookie Viper mission during the first Cylon War. I know.

Now, for the bad news: These flashbacks are wedged inside episodes of the monumentally crappy Flash Gordon. First they giveth, then they taketh away.

But wait, there's a completely-free-of-charge happy ending: They'll be up on Scifi.com right after Flash airs.

So I caught the first one online (because, as previously intimated, I'm never watching Flash Gordon again). And, while not as good as the Resistance webisodes, it wasn't bad. Young "Billy" Adama (Nico Cortez) actually looks like he could mature into the Admiral we all know and love to fear. The girl he's in the sack with (Allyson Warnyca) looks a little too much like Starbuck, which might explain—albeit uncomfortably—his fascination with her. And we meet young Adama just before he toasts his first toaster. Promising...even if the acting is a little stiff. (Bonus for super-geeks like me: What might be the first appearance of the "What do you hear? nothing but the rain, sir" exchange that Adama and Starbuck shared just before he sent her to her "death.")

'Battlestar Galactica' Goes Bigscreen
Special episode hits select theaters Nov. 12

"Battlestar Galactica" fans will have a chance to enjoy their favorite space drama on a bigger scale.

"Battlestar Galactica: Razor" will screen at select movie theaters on Monday, Nov. 12, nearly two weeks before it debuts on the Sci Fi Channel, it was announced Friday (Oct. 26).

"Razor" revolves around the harrowing adventures of young officer Kendra Shaw (Stephanie Jacobsen) who becomes a ruthless warrior under the wing of Battlestar Pegasus commander Admiral Helena Cain during a six-month siege by the Cylons. After Shaw proves herself as a battle-hardened protege, she finds difficulty dealing with Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber), whose first mission as a commander is replacing Cain on Pegasus.

The special two-hour extended episode will hit theaters, thanks to Sci Fi and Microsoft, in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Dallas and Seattle. Admission is free, but seats are extremely limited. Ticket information can be found at www.BattlestarEvent.com.

Fans not so fortunate to make to theaters can still catch "Razor" when it premieres on Sci Fi on Nov. 24.

It was also announced Thursday (Oct. 25) that creator Ronald D. Moore will make his directorial debut on the show this season. He will write the episode, which will begin shooting before Thanksgiving.

"I've thought about directing for a long time and this season seemed like the time to finally take the plunge," said Moore. "It'll be great to be working with the BSG family of cast and crew for my first experience behind the camera, and I'm really looking forward to it."

The fourth and final season of the show will return to television in early April 2008.

is this gonna mess me up? I know the idea behind Razors focuses on the pegasus, but I just got to New Caprica and I don't want anything fucking with that until I watch season 3.

On another note, how about that Baltar huh? what a douche. I thought I hated Janice Soprano with all my being, but Gais fucking Baltar is the scum of the 12 colonies. Great acting...

And when does Season 3 hit DVD anyway? Doesn't season 4 start this year?

It's not *necessary* to see Season 3 first. Most of the Pegasus story is told in Season 2. You should be alright.

James Callis has been killin' "Baltar" from the jump. That dude deserves an award for the work he's done on that show.

Don't know about Season 3. Season 4 starts in early 2008. Razor is to whet our appetite until then.

Next Monday they're showing Razor (2 weeks early) in a small number of theaters around the country. I don't care about the two weeks early part but I'm so frakin' psyched to see BSG on the big screen!!!!

I couldn't make it to mine...how was the ep (without spoilers) and how did it play on the big screen?

I saw it in the Bay Area. I was a little disappointed the video quality was like watching a VHS - I almost would have rather waited to watch it on a sick ass TV setup.

That being said I loved it. Great episode that nicely fills in the backstory. I was pleasantly surprised by the story itself since it wasn't what I expected it to be - especially the way the old school cylons were used. Awesome space battles and they even had some stuff that effects/changes what I thought was going to happen in season 4 (but I won't give that away). Can't wait to see it again.

the old school cylons and their raiders were SOOOO cool! I wonder why only that small clip from the webisodes made it in?

I like how they introduced the new character and did their best to meld that story with the stuff we know. It's funny how they kind of made her a Starbuck junior. It's unfortunate that they decided to get rid of her at the end. It seems like they always do that on BSG. Once they're done with someone for the episode they just go ahead and kill them.

well, when he pry the door open, there is a male and a female on the other side and you can only catch glimpses of them. The female had short blond hair and looked like it could have been starbuck. Just thought that maybe adama stumbled upon the humans that would evenutally become one of the six cylons.

Loved the movie. Hated the Quizno's bumper ads.

Did anybody else lose their minds when the old school cylon raiders showed up and then they pulled out the old school cylons with the voices too?! Only thing missing would have been the original music, but they did that already.

The funniest thing is I instantly reached for the phone when the cylons showed up and then realized I had no one to call to scream, "Did you see the old school cylons?!" to. The only other person I know that watches Galactica is my buddy in Atlanta. Who probably TiVo'ed it and hasn't watched yet.

The only beef I had with this one is no Dee. None at all.

that was hot fire. No Dylan-o. Season 4 can NOT get here soon enough. I didn't get to see the sci fi channel broadcast but the DVD is an extended version. I'm not sure what the differences are. As far as I can tell, the death scenes are a little gorier, and there's more with Lee's character. It *may* be worth it to check it out for those who have seen the broadcast version.

My thoughts. Cain did not hesitate in killin her original XO. I thought it was a bit unnecessary. They weren't deep enough in isht for her to start killin' people for not obeying her orders.

There was a lot more of the regular BSG characters than I expected. I likes. Commander Adama and Cain were not that much different. Like Adama said, he had all those civilians and the President to keep him in line. Without that, he could've been like Cain.

This was most definitely a solid episode. I'm gonna miss Kendra. She was a looker. And that New Zealand accent was too sexy. Plus, where was D (WHFA)? Kandyse McClure was in the credits but no D. That sux. Anyway, I would give it a A-/B+ grade.

EDIT: Oh yeah. The old school Cylons were NICE! "By Your Command!"

i've never seen an episode. dont know what this show is about.

BUT i'm interested in jumping on, and watching season 1.

Does the Season 1 DVD include the 4 mini series episodes? Cause if not, i would suggest watching those first. Season 1 starts off with Galactica already on the run, but the mini series shows how they got there (Shows who 3 of the Cylons hiding in Galactica are, how Helo ended up on Caprica, how Baltar got off of Caprica, how the fleet was formed, etc...). I'm sure you could jump right in, but the whole story is so good that I would suggest not missing any of it.

and that accent?!? Sheesh! That accent set it off! As far as watching this movie. I would insert it season two after "The Captain's Hand" but before "Downloaded". I think watching it then for a new person would be less confusing and more satisfying.

I'm curious.

Well, they completed 10 episodes before the strike. Unfortunately two of them are "Razor". So that means there are 8 Season Four episodes in the can. That leaves 12 not made. Hopefully it will end soon, cause if not, this may be the end of the show. Universal will release the cast and crew. Sets will be broken down and props put into storage.
