FX’s new drama series American Horror Story makes its debut on October 5 and will run Wednesdays at 10 PM ET/PT. American Horror Story, co-created by former Nip/Tuck executive producers and current Glee co-creators/executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, revolves around The Harmons, a family of three who move from Boston to Los Angeles as a means to reconcile past anguish. The All Star cast features Dylan McDermott (The Practice) as “Ben Harmon,” a psychiatrist; Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) as “Vivien Harmon,” Ben’s wife; Taissa Farmiga as “Violet,” the Harmon’s teenage daughter; Jessica Lange (Tootsie, Blue Sky, Grey Gardens) in her first-ever regular series TV role as “Constance,” the Harmon’s neighbor; Evan Peters (One Tree Hill) plays “Tate Langdon,” one of Ben’s patients; and Denis O’Hare (The Good Wife) as “Larry Harvey.” Guest stars for the series include Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under) as the Harmon’s housekeeper; Alexandra Breckenridge (Dirt) as the Harmon’s housekeeper; and Jamie Brewer as Constance’s daughter. The pilot episode of American Horror Story, shot in Los Angeles, was written by Murphy and Falchuk, and it was directed by Murphy. In addition to Murphy and Falchuk, Dante Di Loreto will also serve as Executive Producer of the series. American Horror Story is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television.

i love connie britton to death and will watch her in ANYTHING..plus the promos suggest she's getting her back blown OUT by the dude in the rubber suit and i think she's pregnant?!

--oh my ms. ryan murphy (yea, i snatched DOWN..whut?! LOL!) is GOING IN with the sexual taboos...

but dylan mcdermott playing a hoe who's probably going to get his sexual fetishes and quirks manifested physically in a haunted house possibly? i'm in...

jessica lange playing creepy and disturbing? ok

Skylar *ACTUALLY* playing gay...WERK (he needs to come out AIN'T NO ONE buying he likes the vajayjay. AT ALL)

Vera Farmiga's little sister is playing the daughter? (bet you money the girl has powers of some sort)

i'm going in with a SERIOUSLY OPENED MIND...i read the pilot script and was both intrigued, annoyed and weirded out with the imagery...

plus, horror shows on tv? the last good one that was horror, save for twin peaks which was a mishmash of horror/mystery/thriller/drama, was AMERICAN GOTHIC and that was in the 90s....

but I can really see where the series will go.

I mean, the best thing about a horror story is a resolution at the end.

does this mean each "ghost" gets help I guess to not do harm.

or

everyone dies. I'm gonna watch next week, but I doubt it'll get much better.

yeah
i'm all in
shit was mosdef weird and disjointed, but i'm intrigued

so far, jessica lange is setting this off for me
i'm wondering if her look will stay stuck in the late 70's
like denis ohare's is stuck in the 60's
and will "the mongoloid" ALWAYS have on that yellow sweater
and how long will it take for the the harmon's to notice?

and that old wrinkly/young hot maid thing has potential
straight outta "the shining" with that one

the gimp suit rapist is a little shark-jumpy
but invoking "the entity" was a cool touch (to me)
does anybody else remember that movie besides me?

and the "psychic disabled child" thing was another obvious shoutout to stephen king

anyway

if i could put up with "lost"'s bullshit for five seasons, i can give this one a fair shot

In mean, cliches were rampant through the entire show, but what kept me watching was the storyline and connection of the family. The dynamic between Dylan and Connie' s characters had enough intensity and drama to it, I was more concerned with how they'd work out their issues. Throw in the daughter's troubles at school (though that was kinda unbelievable), Dylan's troubled patient, and the weird neighbors, and I think you had the makings of a solid (albeit highly derivative) drama show. The personal/past demons they all have are the true horror, hence the generalizing "American Horror Story" title (I guess).

Some of the horror elements felt out of place and almost an afterthought. It reminded me of why I hate much of 2000s horror, with its style over substance tendencies. The quick-cut editing, disturbing images, the creepy kid, and kooky music soundtrack...

It was kinda fun though to peep elements they used from other movies though.

I think they should limit the scare tactics to just a couple and flesh THOSE out throughout the episode, rather than attempt to feed us the entire roster of scariness in the house, like they did last night. However, I am interested in whatever the connection between Jessica Lange and Frances Conroy is. They obviously go wayyyyyyy back.

Hopefully the scare elements are blended much better as the series progresses. There's potential here....Plus I got a little thing for Connie Britton.

did anyone notice the crazy patient kid's freddy kreuger sweater?

gimp suit - pulp fiction
youngface/oldface - the shining
ghost/demon rape - the entity
pregnant after ghost/demon rape - rosemary's baby
house telling father to kill family - the shining, amityville horror
skull chimes - texas chainsaw massacre
spooky dead twins - the shining

that's all i can think of
i'm sure i missed a few

I didn't peep The Entity connection(never saw it) I'll have to check it out. But I noticed the other shout outs.

Plus:
The spirits messing with the cabinets while the wife's in the kitchen - Poltergeist
"Creepy Burned Brain Cancer Guy warning the dad of the impending evil - Pet Cemetery (this is with the thinking that he and the others are really ghosts)

I also got a strong The Others vibe, in trying to determine how real Lange, her daughter, the patient, and the maid are.

I was pulled into the non-horror aspect of the story more. I am still confused on how they are going to draw this out over more than one season. Common sense would be, let's move out the house after we realize it's haunted.

But I guess we shall see.

A disjointed mess.

Dylan McDermott was AWFUL. That big dramatic scene between him and Britton was one of the more cringe-worthy things I've seen in a long time...and that was before it ended with the wife punching the husband leading to her submitting to angry sex cliche.

The girl who played the daughter was probably the highlight (no surprise once I found out she's Vera Farminga's younger sister). But the jump cuts to mid-scene with her and her father's "patient" (who was so obviously a ghost from the very beginning) completely ruined any momentum the show could have built.

Ryan Murphy is kind of brilliant though, fuck the 18-45 Male demographic, High School kids drive the market these days and between Glee and AHS he's got all bases covered.

I didn't expect ithe show to pick up so fast. I'm mainly curious to see how long all this crazy stuff happens before they move out.

Jessica Lange is the best character to me, I can't get enough of her. But I don't remember why she wanted to make the daughter sick.

too much 'wtf' going on

why the fuck is mean bully cokehead girl the new bff? does that make sense to any of y'all?

why the fuck wld cheating hubby give the jealous pregnant beatpiece his phone? i was like, 'come on, bro...'

why the fuck wld he tell the family-murdering burnt guy awl his personal biz like that? y'all boys now? come on, bro

how easy was it for the viv and vi to escape the crazy murder crew? very? too? yeah

and why didn't viv get sick from eating the ipecake? did she eat it or not?

i'ma STILL keep watching, but this show obviously expects me to not just *suspend* disbelief, but to basically chop it up into little bits and bury it in the basement

i know horror movie white folk traditionally can't run thru the woods without falling, and do unexplainable stupid shit, but come on

anyway

jessica lange and lil mongo are my favorite characters so far. can't wait to get into their back-story

>why the fuck is mean bully cokehead girl the new bff? does
>that make sense to any of y'all?

yeah, the bully's experience down in the basement was obviously a life altering moment, and Violet is probably the only person she could talk to about it freely.

>>why the fuck wld cheating hubby give the jealous pregnant
>beatpiece his phone? i was like, 'come on, bro...'

umm, she probably had the number from when they were creeping back in boston. keep in mind that he got caught screwing her in his own house, in his own bed. he's not too bright when it comes to cheating on his wife.

>why the fuck wld he tell the family-murdering burnt guy awl
>his personal biz like that? y'all boys now? come on, bro

dude has a lot on his mind... his sidepiece just told him that she's pregnant with his kid, one of his patients is jerking off to thoughts of his daughter.... he probably just needed someone to listen to him talk about his problems, just like he's always listening to other people and theirs.

>how easy was it for the viv and vi to escape the crazy murder

they were a bunch of amateur copycats. (also, anyone notice that the dude was the "retarded" rapper from Sunny?)

I think we can all agree on that.

I wonder why she has such a connection with the ghosts. Still trying to figure out what's up with her daughter. I feel like Tate *might* be her son? Remember she did have one son that was normal but something happened to him?

perhaps he got lost in the house too.

I need to get a defined timeline. They are clearly jumping around in this show. as my friend said probably to be able to make changes as they move forward.

so far so good.

I think its clear that they are shouting out a lot of classic horror movie scenes, tropes and what not each week.

Yall love when they do it on COmmunity with Modern Warfare, but hate it here?

BTW,

We watched last weeks episode last night and in the middle of the night of of the kids toys started making noise in the living room. When I went to the living room to check on it and the toy said "Bye Bye" I almost crapped my pants. Show had me spooked yo.

We could be wrong since her and the wife looked uncannily alike (was that on purpose?), but that last scene with her holding her hand over Viv's stomach kinda reinforced that... as if she were regretting going in for an abortion.

Although, if she were the wife it would explain more why she was so invested in how the house looked...

I thought it may have been the girl, but she says it was the wife. They looked alike though! You want it one way, but it's the other. It's the wife and since performing abortions are in her wheelhouse, maybe placing her hand on Vivian's stomach was thinking, "I can't wait to get to that fetus!" Plus she was all admiring the house. Remember her husband built that house specifically for her. She loved the house, just hated she only had two servants to help her take care of it. She's part of the 1%.

well the daughter's the one that said "we'll take it" when the realtor told them about the house's history.

and Vivien *still* wants to move. Or did I just imagine that scene with her and the realtor at the dining room table?

*SPOILER* When the burnt up dude was in the hole in the backyard and picked up that piece of fabric, it was part of a maid's uniform. That's where Constance buried her after she shot her. Now that her grave has been covered over with concrete and a gazebo built on top of it, i guess her spirit can't escape now.

were talking was at the BEGINNING of the episode...it was when she FIRST declared she wanted to move...

and shout out to Connie Britton/Vivien reading the FUCK out of the realor. She was on some: "NO BITCH. This is how WE will play this..."

I fucking *LOVE* Connie Britton. She is, hands down, one of the most underrated actresses on tv or film working TODAY....

as for the daughter, something tells me her whole "im not leaving and if we do leave, i'm running away" crap is just a smokescreen for her hiding how terrified and scared she is...remember she started seeing the ghosts in the house when the monster cut up the bully's face...

and yea, she's definitely staying for Tate. Let's take bets on when Tate ghost fucks her (cause i'm convinced he's not even alive..)

her wanting to stay for Tate but she almost got KILT and she saw ghosts. I guess she's just a goth chick. Someone mentioned a shout-out to Heathers. I can definitely see that.

I'm glad Comcast finally let the 2nd show On Demand. I re-watched it last nigh and now Im not so sure if Tate really is a ghost. We see the Dad talking on the phone to Tate's mother about why he can no longer treat him. Not unless he's gone completely off the reservation and was talking on the phone to nobody.

I'm getting addicted to this show already.

I'd say the bodies of the dead have to be excavated and removed from the property for the spirits to be free.

Since the maid's presence is strongly tied in service to the current residents, maybe she can't be "free" until they move away and/or die.

When she and Vivian were checking out that new spot, she told Viv that she and Ben never confronted their issues concerning Ben's adultery and the miscarriage. They ran from everything. They ran all the way from Boston, but still hadn't fixed anything. And now they were about to run again. So Violet threatened to run away as a payback, to teach them lesson.

She doesn't seem to be afraid of what's been happening. She was geeked to move in once she found out the house had a murderous history. I mean, she was initially freaked out from Tate's handling of Leah the bully, but she's still intrigued by him. She eventually became friends with Leah. And she was so nonchalant and unimpressed being held hostage by the goofball home invaders, I think she'd actually embrace the hauntings if confronted. I also get the feeling she already knows Tate may be supernatural, and doesn't want to leave.

Remember that the people who lived in the house before Dylan Mcdermott and crew were a gay couple (one of whom is supposed to be played by Zachary Quinto, appropriately enough)

I'm sure there's a connection there.

the fact that the tour was talking about places where violent murders have happened...

and the Sal Mineo murder (i.e. where Sal was crusing the guy and he was stabbed to death) actually happened I believe...

and the tour pulled up to the house (i lol'ed when he called it murder house) when he finished talking about sal mineo and talked about the house on the tour, etc.

but I do suspect that maybe Sal lived in the house or that's the assumption...

but the problem i have is that if you remember, the ghost in the rubber suit that fucked vivien he had blue eyes...sal mineo (in the scene) didn't...

so i'm assuming that Zach Quinto's character and his boyfriend were the most RECENT owners of the house (prior to Vivien and her family)....

I'm getting the feeling that the house haunts each family member in specific ways... ie, different spirits show up for different family members/people (like the dichotomy of the maid looking different for females and males). In this particular case, I think the old dude is dead and can only be seen by McDermott. It would explain how old dude knows so much about McDermott's personal life, and why he's the only one that McDermott is able to be so free with regarding his own personal demons.

As for the grave, I just figured he dug the whole shit himself. He got drugged and/or passed out a few times it looks like, and he ended up out there each time. I'm also guessing that he's the one that knocked Kate Mara's ass out with the shovel, and his brain "rationalizes" his innocence by thinking old dude did it. Basically the entire existence of the old dude is an outlet for him to behave how the house WANTS him to behave.

I could be wrong though.

...OR be a side piece...This episode was it. The side jawns got GOT. lol

Ben's side jawn was CRAZY, scorned, and determined to ruin whatever semblance of a marriage he had left. The way she rolled into his house, calling out Viv's name so they could talk? Straight violation. lol She was so annoying, that when Creepy Burned Guy "El Kabonged" her with the shovel, I couldn't stop laughing. And did Creepy Burned Guy possibly set that up, to blackmail Ben for money?

*Side note* - the actress that played Ben's mistress, Kara Mara...She's related to both owners of the New York Giants (The Maras) AND the Pittsburgh Steelers (The Rooneys)....can you say PAID???

I feel sorry for Moira the maid. It appears she may have been innocently caught up in the drama between Constance and her husband. Or was she? Constance has continuously labeled her a whore and mistress of "weak husbands". Is Constance simply blinded by her own guilt and anger over her husband's ways?.....or does Moira really have that side piece personality?

Why does Moira only appear in her younger form to Ben? And does she look younger to all men, and older to women? I'm not sure what form the detective who came to question Ben, saw her in. His only comment about her was "How can you get anything done with THAT around?" Did he mean sexy, distracting Moira, or old creepy bullet-eyed Moira?

LOL@ Constance bragging on her marksman skills, and inspecting the butter knife and telling Moira, "...It's covered in corrosion...And you know why?...Because you're a shitty maid."

Moira watching from the window as Ben built the gazebo over her dead body was sad to see, especially with Constance pointing out that she'd never get out of the house now...

The show is still overstuffed with details and random, confusing moments, but it's still strong.

*Oh, and did anyone else peep the music from Bram Stoker's Dracula playing during the flashback with the abortion doctor and his wife?*

I think Moira, when about to get fired in the kitchen, mentioned that men see what they want to imagine but women see someone's soul. That would explain why they are see the different forms of her.

But her comment does make some sense. Her appearance could be a manifestation of her anger. She was hurt by Constance's husband who saw her as a sexual object and tried to rape her. From that trauma, she believes all men see her as a sex toy, and her advancements towards Ben is her simply giving him what she thinks all men want.

And perhaps old Moira represents how she feels about herself after being attacked and then killed. Maybe this a play on a woman's insecurities, especially in situations of infidelity. On the inside, she feels ugly and abused from what happened to her, and she believes other women see her as such, looking at her in disgust for being a mistress. Constance, Vivien and Violet have all been touched by infidelity...

But if so, why does Constance still hate her? She seems to revel in her killing of Moira, and shows no remorse. Was there never a conversation between them concerning Moira being attacked? That makes me question whether Moira is as innocent now...

**Edit** I see above someone explained why Constance was still angry, because Moira did in fact sleep with the husband prior to getting raped.

She just has NO compassion for her.

Also, can you imagine that fate? It seems as if she doesn't really enjoy being objectified/fucked by the husbands but she HAS to.

Also I think the burned man, and the neighbor are alive, but every one else is dead, outside of the family.

I reserve the right to change my mind later.

It seems like she went to the room with purpose (packing heat) so she was probably aware of the first time they had sex (when it was consensual).

Edit: Loved how they handled that scene; no bullshit. Pulled no punches... straight through the eye, then double tap in the chest.

remember the maid said "that last time we were together was a mistake". So she knew the maid had already cheated with her husband, so just cuz she was getting raped this time didn't matter to her.

So that explains the anger, and Constance's "fuck you" attitude towards Moira. I was just wondering why a convo had never taken place between the two over her attempted rape.

i assumed that the fetish rubber suit the monster/ghost keeps popping up in is the gay couple's or that's the assumption so maybe the monster just got in the suit with the gay couple and once they couple comitted "murder suicide" (the realtor said that to Vivien at the beginning of the season, though now we know that's not the case), the suit was still in the house and the monster just wears it? I don't know...

but who *IS* the person in the rubber suit? it's not zach quinto's bf on the show because he's taller than that guy?

I want to know who it is...

and the ZQ's bf propositioning Ben on some "I know you want it. I can get you off in 4 minutes" steez...and ben *ACTUALLY* considering it.

Damn, Ben is such a dusty ass hoe! LOL! But, I could totally see him going there and fucking dude cause he just seems so weak...

and when he broke down in front of Tate? McDermott *SO* just gave us his Golden Globes Best Actor in a Drama nomination performance...

And tell me you didn't feel bad for Constance and Addie. She treated her daughter like shit, but she generally *DID* love her daughter.

he was shocked but I did also suspect he was considering it.

I think I assumed he was considering it because he clearly has cheated A LOT in the past and why would this be any different?

Plus, Ryan Murphy always plays loose and fast with boundaries of sexuality and sexual orientation/preference, etc. and I wouldn't be shocked if Ben considered it and went there...

that scene was funny as fuck though with dude's boyfriend all: "yea i can suck you off. you know you want it. I can do you in four minutes tops" I fucking FELL OUT over that...

and yea, i really felt for ben last night because its CLEAR that dude is unraveling QUICKLY...and is struggling to stay on the mend but clearly isn't succeeding at all...

and burned man face: Ben didn't kill Hayden. yea, he covered it up. But, damn...why do I suspect that ben will get caught for that before the season is out? if Hayden doesn't make him go batshit crazy with her haunting him now...

Constance was a dusty ass bitch to her daughter (calling her mongoloid and all kinds of mess, but real talk, you know you snickered when she said it in the pilot because it was just so un-pc, so raunchy and so hilarious coming out of jessica lange's mouth) but she GENUINELY DID love her...she did.

but yea, Constance is going to go INSANE over this..and you *KNOW* she's going to blame Violet b/c she put make up on and her and Addie wanted to be "pretty" so you know Constance is going to go after the one who put those thoughts in her head...

but, i suspect that Violet might be ready for that...I like Violet she isn't scared of the house she takes no ish, and i'm still not giving up the belief that somehow, the house won't "go" after her or she has some kind of weird power herself...

and yea, it wasn't just you..everyone I know who watched it last night thought the same thing...we'll see. depends on how long Zach Quinto and his man are on the show...

but who *IS* inside the rubber fetish suit?! that's what I want to know

and TRUST, Jessica Lange just turned in HER golden globe nominated best supporting actress for a drama performance with last night's ep...

and Connie Britton *BEEN* turning in her Best Actress for a Drama Golden Globe performances period.

They hinted at it being the boy, but I think that's a red herring. I think it's prolly the spirit of the baby that the original couple (the Dr. and the socialite) lost.

maybe or maybe there's something about Violet that scares the SHIT out of her (on some, Violet has powers she didn't know she had, etc.)

but them Ipecac cupcakes?! good lord Constance went HARD with them cupcakes because didn't she give them to vivien originally?! i'm still not clear with why she's doing that...

And great stuff between Constance and Addy. DAMN@ Constance spitting some lethal vitriol towards her daughter. Had me wondering if the real actress had to be consoled after that scene. Powerful stuff.

I have so many questions. lol

Did the house get mad at Vivian and try to abort the baby after she started tearing shit up?
Why the nurse faint? Does the baby look like the pieced together baby the abortion doc made? Oh! And is that story Tate told even true?

I also get what folks were saying about the daughter now. I watched the first 2 episodes again and realize that she's a dark person anyway- cutting herself ect. so death and spooky house shit doesn't really scare her. That's at least what I gather.

Oh & I guess I aint shit because I didn't feel sorry for Constance when Addie died. Her Mom treated her badly but at least she got to be a pretty girl before she died.

I took it that the kids had to go back to the school in which they were shot or whatever other place they haunt. It was Halloween, when ghosts are allowed to freely roam. I was laughing so hard when all the Harmon house ghosts were lazily strolling back as the sun rose.

the house, not only exposes people's faults and punishes them for it (i.e. note how every ghost that's in that house committed some kind of fucked up mess in their lives or someone else's and seem to be eternally paying for it. Constance too..even if she doesn't live in the house, she *MUST* be some kind of guardian for it and clearly, she did some damage of her own in that house *AND*, if we remember Ep 2 the home invasion ep, the young nurse that was murder was named...CONSTANCE. *fingerguns/eyebrow raise* oh yeah..BAM! )

in the case of Ben, it's been clear from JUMP he's weak as fuck. His unraveling, to me, is part of his own need to start holding himself accountable for his weakness and failings as husband and man.

Plus, you know he'll come right back to the house. It's become clear to me that the house seems to have a way of KEEPING PEOPLE there...

and i'm convinced that the house is protecting Vivien, her Frankenbaby (i *BET* you the baby isn't Ben's at all but the adult version of the infantata/frankenbaby--ghost fuckery/rapeyness abounds here) *AND* Violet.

And will continue to protect them both..and also PUNISH if need be (Vivien).

But if Constance died a young nurse she wouldn't have aged. Remember one of the high school girls that Tate shot said that she was supposed to be 34, but she's still a teenager. Constance did her dirt by shooting Moira when she was caught with her husband, but I don't know if thats the only reason she's tied to the house.

I think Constance and Moira, etc. all of these ghosts...are actually their past selves (reincarnation)....i.e. Constance has been at the house in a past life, etc.

That's what I think.

THe current version of Constance is the one we've seen shoot Moira, and is the one the Harmons interact with now...

Just what I (and a few folk who watch) have been thinking about the show.

I've enjoyed this show and really can't get enough of it. It is the first time I've really been waiting week to week but I don't watch much television and just catch this on hulu.

Anyway, what are the thoughts on the doctor's wife on waking Ben up and saying that he needs to save Viven and the baby? And with the highlights from next weeks show, we know that the baby is fucked up and some sort of demon baby.

It's going to be interesting to find out what Constance's role within the house is. She may be "the caretaker" of the house. In the 1st or 2nd episode she told Moira that "it was still her house" or something like that. Also, i've heard interesting theories that the Realtor is involved somehow as somebody who brings the families to the house at request of the house or something like that. I'm not sure but the Realtor has been playing an insignificant role so far, except for the fact that I dont think anybody has come by actually interested in checking the house out.

And doesn't Constance state she has three children? Two are known (Tate and Addy)....whose the third? Some theories have that Ben is possibly the third child, maybe estranged from his mother, idk.

Also, what does Constance want with Violet? First she wanted to poison her or whatever with the cupcake. Now with Addy gone, maybe she needs someone to fill the void. Why did gimp suit dude do anything to Violet? He just left at the end of the first episode. Was he there just in case the burned man got in to protect her?

Also here are a couple interesting interviews with Ryan Murphy about the Halloween episodes:

aka Part II of The Halloween Episode?

After an additional watching, it was kinda meh.

Clearly, we get some exposition about Tate (were we *REALLY* surprised)

Constance drops a mini-bombshell (that you saw coming early on in the series)

Ben was thrown out

Hayden is still there...whiny as usual (but oh good GOT DAMN...did y'all see the part in the basement wheres she confronted Ben and said she was rotting from the inside AND SHE COUGHED UP HER DEAD FETUS?! Why did my friend text me on some: "WORD?! IF I NEED AN ABORTION, I'M GETTING MY DOCTOR TO GIVE ME THE ABORTION COUGH METHOD CAUSE I DON'T WANT MY PUSSY BEING DUG OUT AND SHIT" (I FUCKING DIED during that scene...

Honestly, I feel like the writers were at a standstill and just threw everything AND the kitchen sink *AND* the leftover bits of bacon grease AND the skillet the bacon was cooked in at the wall and prayed for it to all come together and it didn't.

like:

So Tate can't get it up? Was he scared? How is a ghost fucking a human girl?

What are the rules for ghosts? The ghosts in the house are lazily going back inside but the kids that Tate killed had to run because the sun came up?

Why the fuck haven't the Harmons figured OUT the house is fucked up and haunted?

Why didn't Tate remember he killed those kids?

Why was I laughing at the one with the glasses who couldn't talk (the makeup was scary as fuck but I just busted out laughing nonetheless)?

*Shout out to "Jenna Hamilton" (Ashley Rickards from MTV's AWKWARD, get into it if you haven't seen it yet. The show is actually good) for giving classic mean girls ghost cheeleader bitch in those scenes...she was fun.

So how long have the Harmon's been in the house? It's clear the timeline is nonlinear since in the promo for next week's show, Vivien is good and pregnant but in this week's ep...she barely 8-10 weeks along....weird.

I hope next week's ep picks up...because this week's was a bit of a letdown.

I don't know how Tate can't get it up but gimp suit guy can. Maybe he doesnt even have one.

Since it was halloween all ghosts everywhere can roam the streets and do whatever the fuck they want. The house ghosts had to return to the house after halloween and the other ones had to return from where they came from.

I think this baby is growing at an abnormal rate because it is an abnormal baby.

and htf did Tate just walk out of the school and get back home after shooting up the building?

And I'm also a little puzzled as to why Connie Brits would just be so trusting about eating raw brains and stuff for her baby. This isn't Rosemary's Baby here, where it's a first time mother in a place where she doesn't really know anybody and has no one else to trust. She's already had one kid and the internet exists.

Might seem like I'm complaining, but I am really digging this show.

- violet slitting her neck (the sight scares on this show are incredible. i was watching with ~10 people and everybody yelled OH SHIT. chicks was turning they heads and shit.)

- the piggy pig pig shit. that was just a hilarious way for Modern Family dude to die.

- who was the old lady the medium let Violet talk to?

- vivian ate up them brains like "mmmm. delicious."

- 2 episodes in a row with no slutty maid? cmon.

- lmao @ Ben's mind running wild cause that nigga bout to fuck his wife.

- dat baby. i sort of wish they'd let Vivian be super pregnant right now like that dream. that'd fit in w/ the weirdness of the demon baby.

But him getting shot by SWAT was definitely extra.

...was rather silly considering all that HE'S been exposed to in the house? I understood the "face your fears" aspect, but shouldn't he be a bit more cautious, even paranoid now? And so far, he hasn't actually helped ANYONE. He's a terrible doctor.

Maybe if they had the session at dude's house or a more controlled environment, I'd be cool with it.

But you just saw your mistress murdered and her ghost returns; Creepy Burn Guy's harassing you for money; Your next door neighbor's daughter just died; There are weird happenings surrounding your wife's pregnancy; The maid keeps sexually harassing you and no one believes you; AND one of your patients turns out to be a home invader, but is found dead later in the evening...

Let's meet at the park, shall we? lol

I mean, WHY would you take that dude to the bathroom in YOUR HOUSE when you KNOW shit ain't right?

That was mind-numbingly dumb. Although, I'm starting to suspect that MOST of his practice is actually him trying to exorcise his demons vicariously through his patients.

yea they're going to have to wrap up their dynamic QUICKLY...cause its bordering on peevy now.

yea, Viv *BODIED* his ass DOWN...man, Connie Britton *KILLS* as Vivien and I can't see *ANYONE ELSE* playing Viv. AT ALL

and Violet: Taissa Farmiga *TOTALLY* shined this week. Another potential contender for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, imho.

The brain eating scene was cray. Ryan Murphy explains a bit about that scene here http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/11/09/american-horror-story-ryan-murphy-piggy-piggy/

YUP!

But I still maintain that she was ghost raped for real.

But, this is getting good.

Are we taking bets on whether or not the "dark half/bad son" will be deformed in some way and the "Good Son" won't be, thereby adding more complications to all of this.

And, watch both those babies having some kind of power also.

They really need to explore Violet being a medium and her being able to see the spirits in the house, etc.

And damn, she *READ* BOTH Viv and Ben too! She dropped that "wise beyond her years/observes everything" ETHER!

Oh, I'm down for that. - I'm guessing the baby isn't deformed, but will be EVIIIILLLLLL

yeah, I could see that.

it seems like there starting too, also I think Tate is starting to realize he's dead
>And damn, she *READ* BOTH Viv and Ben too! She dropped that

I loved that! IMO, they're both far too selfish/self involved - their marriage was NEVER gonna work, two narcissists is a recipe for disaster.

...in this neighborhood, that would love to do nothing more than ravage me on this counter-top..."

That had me ROLLING. She pulled out that gun with the quickness. Creepy Burn Guy Larry was way too intense with his insistence on seeing the house, so it was understandable she was feeling jumpy, but damn...

So Creepy Burn Guy Larry and Constance had a thing? And his family didn't die at his hands, rather his wife's? Whilst that was an interesting plot twist, I'm not completely into it. For one thing, we didn't any background on Larry's wife to see how unstable she was, enough to take her and her kids' lives. So her taking that extreme measure after his "Loving Constance" confession was a little far-fetched to me...

And the way Constance was treating him?...Where was his pride? I wanna say Constance has that Campbell's "MMM MMM GOOD", 'cuz Larry Lar is WHUPPED. lol But her kids are all fucked up, so maybe not. What's up with the Mask kid in the attic? Are he, Addy and Tate, the product of Constance and the Rubber Suit Man? And is what she's been feeding Viv going to alter her babies?...

Maybe Larry also hopes to see his own family again...

It seems Ben's embracing his dark side, with his threatening of Larry, and his "do what you gotta" attitude towards selling the house. I liked it. It'll be interesting to see how far he goes. He loves his family, and seems willing to go to extremes to protect them...

Mena Suvari was so one-note, although I laughed at the whole "we all know the black dahlia wasn't cut up and mutilated by the ghost of a mad scientist, but what this show presupposes is, maybe she did?" And did they really need to play that LA Noire soundtrack every single sequence she was in?

And I did not care about the hippie dude boning Constance at all (maybe because I assumed he was already a ghost.) He was just dumb.

Hope we haven't really seen the last of sexy maid.

He knows there are ghosts in the house, as he's interacted with Hayden plenty of times and not even batted an eye. But is it like Cmon Violet, let's go get a bite to eat, sorry I can't leave the house, I'm a ghost. But bring me back some cheese fries.

like tate pulled her out of the tub, etc.

and she's all fine the next minute..HOW did he get her body into that crawl space?

and we know the house has a way of playing tricks on you...

i'm calling foul until they show tate dragging her body down into that crawl space...

yea if im not mistaken she woke up when he resucitated (sp?) her and in a later scene, they were in her room talking and she seemed to be fine.

i can't remember...

but, i'm not buying she's dead at all...i do agree with the poster above that said that maybe Tate made a deal with the house to keep Violet there...

and since Violet has the powers of a medium and can see ghosts and talk to them...she is becoming VERY SPECIAL to the house (along with Vivien) so its keeping her there?

we'll see the reveal had me on some WTF...but i'm interested in seeing WHERE they will go with this in the last few eps...

Where the hippie guy got stabbed and cut up to death and the next minute he was fine? That's what happens to people who die in the house.

Maybe Violet really isn't dead, but her being fine in the next scene would make more sense if she did become a ghost.

Plus they can all comunicate with ghosts. Constance talked to them in past episodes, Ben was having conversations with Hayden last week, Vivian had sex with one. Even Crispy Larry can talk with them. Hell, that random Persian dude got a BJ from ghost Moira.

but how do you reconcile Violet trying to run out of the house? It seems like the ghosts can definitely mindfuck with other folks, but actual "magical powers" (like having a still-alive Violet forever stuck in the house) seems out of their range.

I don't think it is any sort of magic voodoo by the house/tate. She is dead, which was why the bot-flies were around as well as Tate offing the exterminator because he found Violet's body down there.

Which was why she hasn't been to school in over a couple weeks. I dont know how they will rectify that situation as if she misses any more days doesn't child services intervene or something like that?

I cant wait to see what Dylan Mcdermott is going to do when he wakes up and now realizes Tate is the rubber man. Next weeks episode looks crazy.

In a good way though, 'cuz it through me off. All this time she seemed like one of the strongest characters on the show, with a "get over yourself and deal with it" quality. Turns out she was just as mentally/spiritually tortured as her parents, even more so given the circumstances. I guess she really couldn't handle being a medium. All her anger over Ben and Viv running away from their problems, and she did the ultimate disappearing act...

And it does explain why she hasn't been to school. lol

I like the way they revealed it. Her trying to get out of the house was hilarious. It was like a Bugs Bunny cartoon, watching her run out only to end up back in the house. lol

I still call bullshit on her though, for selling Vivien out before she was hauled off to the crazy house a few episodes ago, just so she could selfishly stay with Tate. Ghost or no ghost, she turned her back on her mom.

i could see that but i'm still not totally buying she's even dead...like i need to see Tate dragging her body to that crawlspace and THEN i'll be like: "ok, badass Violet *IS* dead. her parents are TOTALLY staying in the house forever now!"

LOL! right...or just the fact that she's skipping and NEITHER of her parents have noticed or cared.

>I like the way they revealed it. Her trying to get out of the

well, really then, she's even steven with Vivien AND Ben, because they BOTH turned their backs on her because they've been too wrapped up in their own personal problems to even NOTICE her...AT ALL.

i mean, damn Tate be in that house ALL THE TIME..ghost or not, that's some mess right there...LOL

well, remember that was Halloween night and as the legend of halloween goes, the ghosts of the dead can roam freely on that night.

so i assumed that's what he did.

then again, that doesn't explain tate and dr. harmon meeting at the playground either...

as for Hayden...i don't get that either. because she's clearly NOT a super demon either...

but wait, she was arrested on halloween, right? if so, then the halloween legend applies to her also.

because it would make even BETTER sense...given the issues the Viv and Violet have with him...

if Ben died and was tied to the house, WOULD his wife and daughter stay there to be with him or would they?

THAT would have been a storyline arc that could have gone on for a few seasons and made the show interesting.

Violet's death is sad for real.

And if so, is it just going to be Ben and The Ghosts?

I don't think Ben can live with himself knowing what he did to his family, but in an ironic twist he will somehow die without getting to be a ghost in the house.

But what's up with the ghosts? The nurses and the burnt up kids and the little pricks from the 70's all appear with their burns and wounds and whatnot from when they died, but why isn't Tate covered in bullet holes?

Zac Quinto's been a definite plus for the cast 'cuz his snarkiness is hilarious, and can easily counter Violet's sometimes "too cool for school" attitude.

They've set the bar pretty high this season... wonder what the next family is going to be like next season. Glee's hit a pretty huge dropoff from season to season and, unfortunately, AHS has that potential.

It was already messed up watching Violet discovering she was dead... and now VIVIEN?

I think they have enough good storylines and places they could take it, to make it interesting next season, even without another family.

For one thing, it's gonna be interesting to see the relationship between Viv and Hayden. Hayden was already outta pocket as the "Woman Scorned," especially since she had nothing to lose. And after she died she quickly realized she could pretty much do what she wanted. But now that Viv has died, Viv could be the counter to Hayden's dark side...

The fight over the babies, and how they get raised...And is the first baby gonna be a ghost kid?

Larry, the Creepy Burn Guy in jail, salty over Constance's rejection...

Seems like as the show has moved forward this season, they've gotten better with the balance between story and horror elememts, and not just throwing stuff in for the cool factor. Hopefully that will continue.

I assumed that the doctor was lying, and said that just so he could pass the baby on to his wife. It would make sense that the baby was actually dead, and the ghost of it simply passed on to his wife.

Loved that we got some explanation on ghost rules. The stuff with all the "good" ghosts coming together to scare the new family was kinda corny, but I dug it. Ben's scene with Tate was dope too.

I love the fact they don't follow normal tv patterns most of the time. The fact Ben died in the first 20 minutes and not the final 20 just shows how differently they approach everything.

And that final scene was a perfect way to send the show out in season one. I can't wait for season two... I just hope they can keep this going.

253. "American Horror Story': Ryan Murphy talks the game-changing season final..."
In response to Reply # 0

http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/12/22/american-horror-story-ryan-murphy-season-finale/

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE SEASON FINALE OF AMERICAN HORROR STORY!!!!! I’m not sure there’s another show on TV that would have the guts to kill off its lead characters and that’s what makes AHS‘ finale such an exhilarating shocker. In the end, Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott) joined his dead wife Vivien (Connie Britton) and dead daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga) in the afterlife once vengeful ghost-stress Hayden (Kate Mara) hung him from the house’s balcony. (If you were wondering what Ryan Murphy was alluding to in last week’s Q&A, about “the most shocking scene we’ve ever done,” this is the moment he was talking about.) Plus, Constance (Jessica Lange) ended up with yet another baby who appears to be a deviant killer. EW talked to Ryan Murphy exclusively about the FX series’ twisty (and twisted) climax.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: The prologue seemed to tease that the house pulled the Harmons to it. Was that what you were implying?
RYAN MURPHY: I don’t know if they were targeted. I don’t think the Internet site had any supernatural pull to it… although that would have been hilarious. I thought it was two things: it was house porn because I think that house really is extraordinary. And also I think there’s always that allure in American lives of the fresh start, moving West, starting fresh.

Seeing that Vivien was prepared to leave made it even more tragic.
I loved how they both played that scene.

My favorite scene in the entire episode was when they’re scaring the family; it reminded me of Beetlejuice.
Oh really? I never thought of that.

American Horror Story: Get the latest news, photos, and more

But my truly favorite moment was when she guts him and then he shoots her in the head and they’re both like, “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do this.”
Don’t you think every married couple in America will stand up and cheer at that scene? I know for Connie and Dylan that was the thing they loved doing the most.

I did worry about how that will affect the Rubber Man suit.
You know what? That’s true. That probably is the end of Rubber Man after that scene because the suit was ruined.

Vivien seemed so at peace with everything even throughout Ben potentially moving and her seeing her living baby.
That was purposeful. Unlike most of the people in the house, in fact maybe the only one, she died surrounded by love. So I think that made her a little more at peace: accepting, not fighting. She sorta died at peace in some weird way. I was really excited that in the afterlife they have such great blow-dryers.

Also they have stylists!
They do. You look really good when you’re dead. What I loved about that is that I think everybody, particularly women, would like to think they looked most beautiful in the afterlife. So it made sense to me that she did that.

Was there ever a moment you thought about diverting from all the Harmons dying? Like maybe we should keep Vivien alive?
No, because that would really screw the whole story up. I loved how it began. I loved it in the middle and I loved the end. The only thing really frustrating for me, to be honest with you, is that sometimes people would write this idea that we were making it up as we went along and I wanted to say, “Really?” But I think now people are writing and saying, “Oh yeah!” I’m excited for people to see it on DVD, because now that they know how it ended, go back and see all of the little things, like people who have no reflections in mirrors. When you go back, you will see everything was set up.

That is interesting in the sense that The Killing had such a controversial finale because it didn’t pay off for viewers, while this did answer pretty much all questions.
Working on many shows, I feel like this was the I was most proud of because that was the through-line from the beginning. I feel like that first season of American Horror Story by design feels like a little Edgar Allen Poe novella. It was designed to be very contained.

Was Constance raising the demon child always part of your plan too?
Yes, because the thing about Constance was she was the biggest survivor. Very early on I pitched out that last line, “What am I going to do with you?” to the writers room, and I loved how Jessica played it with both fear and pride. It was a very weird little moment. There had been some discussion very early on, right around episode 3, about how do we kill Constance, and I was like, that’s never gonna happen.

The odd thing about the ending of that is I love how we could get a redemptive Christmas scene in a horror show. And I loved that it was actually a very uplifting ending where everybody got what they wanted. That’s another interesting criticism about the show: People say, “I don’t like the Harmons.” Look, they did terrible things to each other — there’s no doubt about it. Particularly Dylan was a real antihero. But I think you ultimately cared about them at the end and you forgave their bad behavior and choices because I think in death they all had a sort of redemption and an awareness and a growth. I think it’s funny that in death with the stillborn baby… that Dylan can say “I’ve never been happier.” I think that’s such fantasy to people to think that the afterlife is the ultimate redemption and the ultimate peace and finally I will lose all my demons.

The new family, the Ramos’, seemed to immediately move into the house and have baby fever. Is the house projecting that on them?
No, I think that’s how it is for most people when they move to a new nest. But I love little things about the finale. Like, I loved finally that we have explained why people sleepwalk and go to the fire. Who’s drawing them there?

It seemed like at the end, the Harmons had figured out how to exist in the house without interacting with the unpleasant folks like Tate and Hayden.
Yes. I always thought that the Harmons would become the alpha people of that house, particularly Vivien. I thought she would be the matriarch. I personally think Violet will never speak to Tate again. I feel like he deserved pain. I think the biggest justice for him could be to not get the one thing he wanted, which is love.

Basically Tate’s and Hayden’s comeuppance is that they end up alone.
That’s exactly right. That’s what we wanted for them. Alone and tormented.

And I loved that Moira got what she always wanted, which was a family.
Yes, exactly. She progressed beyond her servitude and was seen as a true member of the family and a woman. I always thought, amongst all the characters, she was the most tragic to me. I’m glad that she got her happy ending.

It was almost like a curtain call at the end with all of the previous ghosts showing up. I forgot about the bug man.
We always wanted that act to be the Grand Guignol cavalcade. I love the idea too that some of those ghosts are benevolent and some aren’t interested in helping people. It was fun to have arguments in the writer’s room like, Who’s the nice ghost? Who’s the mean ghost? Who’s the vengeful ghost? Who would help?

Is the Infantata still alive?
He’s down there scavenging for bugs and eating possums until some other poor souls go down there.

I just read that American Horror Story is the highest time-shifted show of the year, which basically means the most DVR’d. Why do you think that is?
I think it’s two things: I think a lot of people don’t like to watch this show at night before they go to bed. And I think a lot of people like to watch it in groups. Ultimately, I’m really proud to do a show that’s too terrifying to watch when it airs.

256. "American Horror Story Season 1 Finale/Season 2 possibilities"
In response to Reply # 0

http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/12/american-horror-story-ep-ryan-murphy-every-season-is-a-different-haunting.html

telling each season anthology style? I like that idea:

'American Horror Story' EP Ryan Murphy: Every season is a different haunting

"American Horror Story" brought its first season to an end Wednesday night (Dec. 21) leaving the viewers wondering what is going to happen with the Harmon family and their supporting characters in Season 2. Executive producer Ryan Murphy spoke with the press Thursday and spilled all the details (without spoilers) for next season.

"The only thing I guess I will say about that is next year of the show, every season of the show, will be a different haunting," says Murphy. "What you saw in the finale was the end of the Harmon house and the second season of the show will be a brand new home or building to haunt, I guess is the proper way to put it. Just like this year, every season of the show will have a beginning, a middle and an end."

"That being said, what we're going to do with the actors is some of them will be coming back," Murphy continues. "and also new faces on the show, but will be playing completely different characters. Completely different creatures and monsters, etc."

Murphy also says that this idea of an "anthology show" was the "design of the show from the beginning," which he thinks is a "cool, interesting way to tell a horror show."

Along with the new haunting, Murphy says there will be a new theme for the show.

"Every season also, along with being a new haunting, will also have a new overriding theme," says Murphy. "The theme of this year, as I've said many times, was 'infidelity.' Next year will have a different theme and a new cast of characters to go with it."

We won't have to wait to long to find out who makes up the new cast and what the new storyline will be. Murphy says the full cast and the storyline for Season 2 will probably be announced in February.

Don't worry - not all the faces from Season 1 will be gone, but mum's the word on which ones may return and in what capacity. But it won't be the same as the first season.

"Connie and Dylan will not be playing the leads on the show," says Murphy. "Their stories are done. People that will be coming back will be playing completely new characters."

"I love those characters and I mourn them, I will miss them," Murphy continues. "But I think the aspects of the show everyone loves, the mysteries and the love stories, will all be there in the second season, albeit with new actors and new characters ... I just hope that people who love the show, I can say with 100% optimism I think they will love the second season, perhaps moreso, based on what we have cooked up."

If you were a fan of the true crime aspect of the show - Mena Suvari as the Black Dahlia, for example - don't worry. That won't be going away.

"We will always have characters or real-life situations based on American true-horror crimes. I'm not interested in doing another house, just a house story. We're not going to move to Maine and do another haunted cottage," says Murphy. "There are all different types of American horror stories to tell."

"I'm really interested in serial killing stories or true crime stories or prison stories, so that's the thing. You can see as long as we all do our good work and people are continually interested, that every year on the show is almost a little miniseries in itself and can be a completely radically different type of show," he continues.

But there is one topic that is off limits.

"I wouldn't do a season about vampires," Murphy laughs. "But everything else is fair game. What we're planning now is very differnet from the California house approach."

We can hardly wait to find out.

yea if you read the interview above, Vivien, Ben and Violet a) won't be series regulars at all next year and b) will be completely different characters apparently....

i give them "STRAHNGE" points for trying to be different and edgy....

but folk LOVE these characters. to not see them next season at all would be weird.

AND, how are they going to set this show up every season? a new family keeps moving in?

eventually they'll want to exorcise the house right?

i don't know...we'll see.

I mean, it makes sense why Ben got killed off so suddenly...and why the new family was out with the quickness. I wasn't feeling it, and things seemed to wrap up so quickly.

Now we find out they're basically starting from scratch?

I'm optimistic because there's a wealth of haunted house stories they can pull from, plus intertwine with the everyday personal horrors/struggles of the human spirit. But not seeing strong characters like Constance and Viv on a regular basis kinda sucks...

And how are you gonna introduce a psycho killer Pet Sematary ass baby at the end, then tell us the cast and setting is changing up?!?!?

the killer baby.
If they followed the baby, they can still make it "anthology" like (with the different stories) but it won't be like "where is it going now that all the lead characters are dead"

i think i would have preferred Ben to be kept alive with the demon baby and somehow, the baby leading him back to that house later on in season two..

like, they totally could have started a new family/location/storyline/whatever..

then somehow the demon baby and circumstance would draw the characters all back to that house for a showdown

i'll be sure to tune in for season 2

i pray they put me on the viewing panel again!

nice reading everyone's comments. helped me understand or think of things in a different way. and LOL much!

what the hell will i watch now though?

psst!
