I got there before 9, stayed until the show ended. I was standing in front of the stage right amp/speaker (in the brown scarf next to the strangely hot Indian chic in the Sgt. Pepper/Michael Jackson jacket. I wish I would have got her number). The show was fucking awesome. Without question, one of the best "MC in a tiny room rapping" shows I've ever been to. If you're old enough to remember when REAL EMCEES would rock these little hole in the wall venues, then this was the show to be at. He started before midnight (which probably stings considering you left just before he went on). He opened with RESPOND/REACT - fucking awesome, I didn't think he was gonna do any Illadelph Halflife - went into the first verse of WHAT THEY DO, did CLONES. He didn't do too many other verses from the albums that I can recall. He did a verse from PITY THE CHILD, he did his verse from BET CYPHER, a lot of freestyles (fucking nice, before you ask). The show also had a whole bevy of local guests. This was the first show I remember attending where all the guests spit some ill shit. You know how it'll be one hot rapper and a dozen "aight cats"? This was not that show. This was seriously a dozen hot cats. Who was there: Dice Raw - looking like an extra on Mad Men in a tweed jacket and overcoat - kicked a bunch of shit. Truck North - was cool, kicked a couple. light skin dude with really long dreads. Porn - I had never seen him live before, dope. Tu Phace - this kid I see at EVERY hip hop show in the Philly area. He was spazzing the fuck out. OH! And congrats to him on just signing a record deal. Another cat whose name I don't know - aka the bwol in the classic sixers jacket. Hezekiah spit some - DELAWARE REPRESENT!!! - he, Porn, and Tu Phace sounded dope going after each other. I don't think I'm forgetting anybody. And again - everybody was fucking nice. The rep from Heinekin/215 Mag was handing out heinekens to the crowd during the show. THE ONLY NEGATIVE ABOUT THE WHOLE SHOW WAS THE FUCKING PHOTOGRAPHERS. When did shows turn into photo shoots? I counted TWO DOZEN CATS TAKING PHOTOS. Two dozen in Silk "tiny as fuck" City. Most of them were fucking obnoxious, not even into the music, just there so they could post something on their blogs. Seriously, no bullshit, there were so many photographers where I was standing (the side of the stage closest to the bar and farthest from the door) they had to get on stage. That's right - so many photographers they had to be let on stage. They were elbowing cats who were there for the music, cutting in front of cats just so they could stand in the way. There was absolutely no excuse for how fucking annoying the photographers were. Other than that, the show was fucking great, and I'm definitely trying to go to the next 215 mag event.
