i've got some nice b&w images, from the rolls the conant garden historical sign came from, but the shoot got mixed in with another file, so i've been slaving over a hot light table since i got the bad news about dilla trying to dig them out.

one key image i'm looking for is a 3 inch floppy (the kind that go in mpc's) with quest's trademark line drawing self-portrait that was laying on dees turntable deck.

my archive is scary sometimes though. i feel kind of ghoulish- rosa parks passed- okay, dig out rosa, reggie white, check, sun ra, check....... etc....

for more hip-hop factoids, kim osorio was stilla freelance writer for the source when the story was shot- amazing how time changes things.

i think i stopped buying the source a year before Fantastic dropped.

that pensive photo of his basement is great.

it's crazy to think that a dude whose rhymes were so carefree and loose, was so meticulous and exact about his work.

it's inspiring.

yup, it was for (as xxl calls it) "the sauce", they used a tighter portrait of the three together (think mt rushmore from the side). i was still doing some freelance work when i first moved out to indiana, and they flew me up to detroit for the shoot.

just from my brief time with dilla he reminded me of rob swift from the executioners.
i shot most of the album cover art for the exe's first album, and most of it was in the studio while they worked. the "cold-cold-cold- cold cut scratch" showed me how heavy rob is- he noticed of the three dj's two were "letting go" of the record on the break, and one was "pushing" on the break- and he noticed and corrected the distinction...

dilla's vibe and his space had that same vibe- it was essentially one of those ranch style split level homes with the semi-finished basement- wood panel walls, low ceiling etc, but it was organised into a full scale production environment- complete with vocal mikes, portable rack cases and everything.

it looked like one of those futuristic high tech worlds where everything is super sci-fi, yet elegantly grimy...

I am working on a t-shirt for Dilla and I am coming up with a crazy design that nobody has done before, but i need allot of different pictures. I have all of his pics that have been on here and other sites but if you have some rare stuff which sounds like you do please meail me some. The shirt will be sold on a myspace page dedicated to him.
