"someone break down the process of scratching a hook"

i got a lot of ideas, but what's the best way? accapellas or just use the actual song? how do you keep the flow of the music intact? how do you get the timing just right?

sorry if this is a stupid question but i've always wanted to know the process

if you have the acapella, that's the best option... but of course not everything has an acapella. at that point, if you're using the actual album cut, just try to make sure that whatever's going on in the record doesn't conflict with your song, and eq out any unwanted low end, etc...

then get nuts.

helps to have some software that will let you cut that shit up, so you take the best scratches, and even 'cheat' a little.

search ohhla.com.
use google and search "site:ohhla.com whatever word you want here"
usually when you want something general, or you can't remember what record who said what on it'll help.
