"please..cubase sx and reason users..walk me through"

i got reason 2.5, but never used it
i want too
i just can't figure out how to incorporate it into what i do
i read the manuals and hints, but they are confusin'
so i need some body to walk...not run, but walk me through settin' up reason as a sound module to use within' cubase and how to use it
like i know how to set up an midi instrument in cubase
how do i set up rewire or turn it on?
and then, what do i do?
like how do i set up a track to be midi controlled by my controller and make reason respond and record in cubase?

thanks much

There's a CD-ROM circulating that was tailored for 2.5 - Propellerhead.Producing.Music.With.Reason (as identified) - it's a decent jumpoff point in getting started; should be available through the same channels that you got your version of Reason, Block...

You've got reason 2.5 but never used it? Wow, that is an expensive purchase for something you havent used!

Read page 51 - 61 in the operation manual, the rewire section. That explains it all.

Yes, I was being sarcastic. N-e-ways read the section on rewire in the manual like I said and you will be good.

start cubase first.

then start reason, and GET RID OF THE MIXER in reason,
and keep the audio interface, the thing that says
"audio out" on it.

reason should then automatically be rewired to cubase.

open a new project in cubase, empty.

Then add one midi track in cubase.

now swith to reason.

Open something like subtractor. Patch the output
of subtractor to port 3 the audio interface.

Switch back to cubase.

go under the devices menu and choose reason

power on channel 3.

switch bact to the midi track you create and change the output
from "microsoft gs wavetable" or whatever the heck, to
the reason subtractor 1 or whatever.

Create a clip in the midi track, drawn in some notes, and play.

You should hear stuff.

Rinse and repeat.........

Works good with the samplers in reason too (nn-xt and nn19)

Peace.

After you have made a beat in Cubase using Reason as a plug-in and closed the file, do you need to open Reason to hear the track in Cubase again?

so i take it that you are just recording midi commands in Cubase from Reason, not sounds, like you would do with live vocals going into Cubase, right?

Otherwise, I do ALL THE RECORDING in Cubase, vocals etc, since
it's a superior mixing program and you can load vst's to massage
your sound, and in addition, you can't record JACK in Reason
anyway. I usually just the synths play through, but if I want
to record a bar of synth, say, a bass line, I can do that, record
the synth being played by a midi part in cubase acting on that
synth in Reason, record just the AUDIO of that channel, for a bar
i.e. "resampling" then re-import it back into my project as just
audio, and then mix. This you do if you are running out of cpu
power, which surprisingly, reason rewired into cubase does
NOT take up alot of cpu at all for half a dozen instruments.

as long as you know how to use a vst synth or sampler in general
you should be ready plug and go.
