Sure but as technology grows....you'll see Pre-amps as the thing of the past....of course as of now you 100% correct probably won't be as good as a Good Pre-amp...but same level as a Cheap Pre-amp!

Prolly because if you have a Mic that can sound better than a Whole Pre-Amp Setup.....later on in the future...Why Buy a Pre-amps....just to make your studio look bigger? ...in the technology age everything gets smaller...look at Cell Phones, Ipods.... --------------------------------------

people who are serious about sound quality want options. I'm not trying to be rude but it sounds like you don't have a lot of info on what you're taking about. Preamps will be around for a long time for a myriad of reasons. A couple of which are: you get different sounds from different preamps, you may want to use your own a/d converter, it's obviously transistors in that thing and not tubes.

yeah... What ^^^^^ HE ^^^^ said...
Pre amps integrated into the mic would make the mic a preamp with a mic. IOW Pre Amps>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mics
And just like it was mentioned before different pre amps color sound differently. I don't know if the hiphop realm it may not be that important, U87/Avalon and you're ready to go, but if you are recording a variety of sources you almost always want to have more arrows in the sonic quiver so to speak and not less...

yeah.
But for the price, if that is a restraint, and if it actually WORKS, not a bad deal at all.
