I've used my friend's ASR-x (the black one), but I am not an ASR "user"

The sequencer on that thing is a pain in the ass.
It's basically an ASR in a MPC body, but it's highly inferior to both at what they do.
An MPC isn't a true sampler, it's made basically for drum sounds.
The ASR-10 is a true 'sampler' meaning it was made in the vein of the old Fairlight samplers that were meant to sample anything instead of just low-end instruments.

and the sampler itself is more of a universal sampler, not a drum sampler, so the lows on it are kind of....I don't know what the word is...but I definitely don't like the feel of it and I haven't used one in over five years.

I hear people complain about the asrx sequencer all the time, but I've had mine for 8 years and I've never had a problem with the sequencer.

How would you describe the learning curve of the asr? I currently rock the motif es/mpc 2000 combo, and although the mo can get the job done, sample-wise; it's UI isn't the most inviting. Plus, I rather use the mo as just a soundmodule. Racking my brains to perform simple tasks can really take the fun out of making music, ya dig.

heh...
personally I don't care for the sequencer, but the synths and some of the drum sounds are dope and the processing and sampling is the shit ifd you have the expanded memory.

I hope yall use more than one machine though...doing everything on one machine you are cheating yourself.
I use the ASR to sample longer loops, melodies, etc and as an intrument for basslines, etc.
I use the SP for drums and chops
computer or MPC for sequencing

Everything has it's strenghts and weaknesses...just use it best you can

yep.

I got an EPS but it sits in the box. I personally use the ASR for chops and everything. It works for me. But I haven't ever used a drum machine. I like having everything in one place(pause).

My boy had an MPC 60 ad ASR 10 setup for a while but he said it wasn't needed like that. Drum progamming at times could get a litle crazy with the ASR but I can see how it is easier with a drum machine to do certain things.

Sometimes you gotta charge em to the game.

A connection between and ASR and a computer. I want to connect my ASr to my laptop but don't know what is needed to do so. If anyone knows it would be very helpful

An audio/midi interface+Sequencer(Cubase,Sonar, protools) would do the job. http://www.zzounds.com/cat--Audio-Interfaces--2418
